Serious Play: The Business of Social Currency | Logic+Emotion by Armano

Serious Play: The Business of Social Currency | Logic+Emotion by Armano | Marketing Strategy and Business | Scoop.it
I've just spent my first week on the social network/game called Empire Avenue, a new kind of site. If Twitter encourages us to tell the world what we are doing, and Foursquare tempts us to tell the world where we are doing it, then Empire Avenue asks us to determine what we think our friends and brands we like are worth.
The network is partially a fantasy stock market which allows you to "buy and sell" profiles, whether they are profiles of friends or companies. It uses it's own currency system called "eaves."

First Things First – Content Strategy Before Social Strategy

First Things First – Content Strategy Before Social Strategy | Marketing Strategy and Business | Scoop.it
What makes people want to talk about your brand in social media? You can’t succeed in social media if you don’t have something interesting to say.

At this point in your social media experience, you (hopefully) understand that social media marketing is not just about having a Facebook page or a Twitter profile.

6 Types of the Social Customer | Smart and Social Business

6 Types of the Social Customer | Smart and Social Business | Marketing Strategy and Business | Scoop.it
I have identified six types of the social customer, all with varying degrees of influence. I don’t discuss influence specifically because every customer, social or not, has some level of influence over others.

What’s important to note is that this is not a life-cycle. Social customers interact with business and brands differently based on their emotions and how they are feeling on a given day.

Social CRM is at the center because support, sales and community management teams are the ones responsible for determining the rules of engagement based on the behaviors of the social customer. Organizations today are already deploying social technologies internally, creating workflows and governance models to address the landscape. That being said, here are few ways to think about social customers....

Finding the balance between personal and professional on Twitter

Finding the balance between personal and professional on Twitter | Marketing Strategy and Business | Scoop.it
What is the proper balance between personal and professional outreach on Twitter? If I am using my account to promote company and client content, is it also appropriate to carry on conversations on a personal level about sports, a great recipe or my favorite charity?

This is a great question and one that I have to address on two levels, philosophical and practical.

At its heart, Twitter is a business networking tool … which is what many companies and individuals don’t understand. They view the platform as just another way to broadcast company press releases. By trying to force-fit old “broadcast” media thinking into this new platform they are sub-optimizing Twitter at best and hurting their brand at worst. ...

Questions to Ask When Developing a Social CRM Strategy

Questions to Ask When Developing a Social CRM Strategy | Marketing Strategy and Business | Scoop.it
Social CRM means different things to different people.  If you ask three people to explain social CRM chances are that you’ll get four different responses.

The thing to remember is that all of this “social” stuff is about solving customer facing problems that address people’s change in behavior, expectations, technological fluency, and communication methods.
These problems are solved with strategies that include BOTH new technologies (such as Facebook, Jive, Lithium, Twitter) AND older technologies (such as CRM systems).

While there is no strategic blueprint or “one size fits all” approach that organizations can adopt, there are a few key questions that organizations can ask themselves around 5 key areas: business goals and metrics, culture, technology, rules and guidelines, and workflow and process......

HOW TO: Connect Your Brand to the Right Online Influencers | Mashable

HOW TO: Connect Your Brand to the Right Online Influencers | Mashable | Marketing Strategy and Business | Scoop.it
Simply put, there is no one single way to measure online influence. And in the past, measuring influence has been based on popularity or celebrity.
In a recent post, Brian Solis, principal of The Altimeter Group, wrote, “If we look beyond the word ‘influence,’ we see that the ability to measure effect is complicated and elusive. I believe, however, that we’re closer to measuring social capital, at least in a digital sense, than we are [to] measuring outcomes.” This means that online influence isn’t about popularity, it’s about expertise....
