Why good SEO is strategic

Why good SEO is strategic | Top Tech News | Scoop.it
From its inception as a marketing discipline nearly a decade ago, SEO has generally had a tactical focus. And that’s fine. After all, the specific tactics used to gain links, mentions, rankings, traffic and other KPIs are amazingly interesting subjects in their own right. (I’ve long been fascinated by the exact position of the demarcation line between White Hat and Black Hat SEO). But SEO is much more than tactics, hacks and tools. Today, in many organizations, SEO’s role as a strategic business driver is becoming more deeply felt. Let’s itemize five ways that SEO has strategic impact. Lowering digital media costs. In many verticals, PPC costs range well beyond $10 a click. (In the legal field, paid clicks can exceed $200.) Favorable organic positions materially reduce these costs, freeing up digital ad dollars to deploy against segments that would otherwise be unaffordable. That’s an important, material and strategic impact of SEO that’s often discounted in the C-suite. Market shar.. http://topseosoft.com/why-good-seo-is-strategic/

Black Friday Report: Retail search ad spend shifted from text to shopping ads on desktop

Black Friday Report: Retail search ad spend shifted from text to shopping ads on desktop | Top Tech News | Scoop.it
Shopping ad growth continues to cannibalize text ad spend on desktop. Retail spend shifted significantly from paid search text ads to paid search shopping ads on desktop this Black Friday weekend compared to a year ago. That’s according to a report from paid search insights firm, AdGooroo, a Kantar Media company, based on analysis of 2,500 top retail product keywords. From Black Friday through Cyber Monday, advertisers spent $8.9 million on Google desktop text ads across the keyword set analyzed in the US this year compared to $15.4 million in 2015. Product listing ad spend on desktop, meanwhile, increased from $2.9 million in 2015 to $9.6 million during the period in 2016. That’s a total spend of $18.5 million in 2016 compared to a slightly lower $18.3 million a year ago. Earlier this year, Google removed text ads from the right rail of desktop results. Product listing ads, however, display either above the organic results in the mainline or in the right rail. Google makes it easier to add & remove emails from Customer Match lists in AdWords

Google makes it easier to add & remove emails from Customer Match lists in AdWords | Top Tech News | Scoop.it
Advertisers can now add and remove email addresses from existing Customer Match lists in AdWords by uploading a file to the list. It’s also possible to completely replace the list with a new file without having to create a new Customer Match list. The options are now available from the edit window for existing lists in the Audiences section of the Shared Library. Being able to add emails to an existing list isn’t new, but this new workflow makes the process clearer. With this announcement, Google also shared some case studies on ways advertisers have been using Customer Match: TurboTax created customized ads and landing pages to ease returning customers into the tax-filing process, decreasing its cost per conversion by 31 percent in the process. Guitar Center made product-specific customer lists and increased CTR by 60 percent. The Children’s Place re-engaged back-to-school shoppers with customized ads, increasing its return on investment (ROI) by 287 percent. 5 reasons advertisers should NOT ignore Bing Ads

5 reasons advertisers should NOT ignore Bing Ads | Top Tech News | Scoop.it
Gone are the days when Bing took years to catch up to the new and innovative applications Google had launched within AdWords. In recent months, Bing Ads has been able to quickly implement comparable tools and features — indeed, they even have some unique features that AdWords does not offer. Unfortunately, Bing is still often seen as the secondary choice when launching a paid search campaign. Marketers underestimate the true value of this ad platform and its unique audience. I have had great success with Bing campaigns; in some instances, the results far surpass outcomes obtained via the highly competitive Google platform. The last couple of years have been exciting for Bing Ads, with the implementation of many new tools and features. Here are five of my favorite enhancements. 1. The Bing Ads app I recently launched a new Bing advertising account and was impressed to see the availability of a Bing Ads app, which launched for iOS in April 2015. Yahoo introduces ‘Answers Now’ app, but will users respond? | Top Tech News | Scoop.it
nevodka / Shutterstock.com There was a time that “answer engines” or “social search” appeared poised to be a viable alternative to traditional Google search. That never happened. Some sites faded and a few have soldiered on, offering occasional value (and entertainment) to users with esoteric or specific questions. Somewhat ironically, discovery of those answers typically happens through conventional search results and SEO. Yahoo Answers is one of the early players and a survivor of the “answer wars” of several years ago. The company just introduced a new mobile version called Yahoo Answers Now. Aside from an onerous sign-up and sign-in process, it offers a relatively nice UX and searchable content. The promise of sites like Yahoo Answers and newer sites such as Jelly (from Biz Stone) is that you’ll get a very specific response to your very specific question. The expectation created is (near) real-time responses from knowledgeable humans. Sometimes that happens.
