We create in teams now.

Some of these teams are company based, but increasingly we form ad-hoc teams of friends and fellow travelers.

The marketing revolution is happening in many dimensions simultaneously so I asked a great marketers to join and share their takes on the Marketing Revolution.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

My friend @MarkTraphagen introduced me to the founder of Wire Buzz (@TheToddHartley) today. Wire Buzz looks COOL. I'm convinced video is the great underutilized tool.

I base that opinion on the impact video had when I was an Ecommerce Director (4x conversion). This is NOT to say video is EASY. Video is HARD and great video is even harder, why having a guide like Todd is a really good idea.

We spent TONS of time tweaking our "helping hands" videos. Our first test showed video TANKED conversion. Several months and many tests later we got it. Quiet the video down and bring in our Buzz Team so the video doesn't feel like you are talking to yourself.

8 Steps To Effective Content For Social Media

  1. Listen first
  2. Stop creating crap
  3. Engage your audience
  4. Find your voice
  5. Be helpful
  6. Find your Rhythm: (the 4-1-1 rule of social sharing)
  7. Reject excuses for not using any social channels
  8. Be entertaining, if you can

By MICHAEL BRENNER

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Love the "listen first" idea. Best ideas come from THEM (the sentient mob). #2 is infinitely more difficult since THEY also determine what is crap. The way to pave with golden bricks is to pave and understand how to mix mortar into gold. That is another way of saying you are going to produce some crap its inevitable (and needed).

The 4-1-1 Rule is for every 1 self promotion piece you should RT one and share 4. Had to look this up and the rule was popularaized by the Content Marketing Institute and Joe Pulizzi (a trusted source0. I agree, find your own 4-1-1 rule, but I like the the emphasis on OPC (Other People's Content).

Consumers Prefer Brands Associated With Good Causes (Cone Study)

Consumers Prefer Brands Associated With Good Causes (Cone Study) | Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it

If offered comparable price and quality, 91% of consumers worldwide would switch brands to one associated with a good cause, according to a recent study by Cone Communications and Echo.

Similarly, 92% of consumers surveyed said they would buy a product with a social or environmental benefit if given the opportunity, and more than two-thirds (67%) said they have done so in the previous 12 months.

Moreover, 90% of people surveyed said they would boycott a brand for irresponsible behavior.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

How Social Marketing Helps Branding

The hardest part of my Cure Cancer Starter idea is not that it is a worthy cause, most people want to cure cancer, but that aligning with a cause is NOT a charity but a marketing decision. Grateful for this report that shows how influential alignment with good causes can be for brands today.

Causes help brands become REAL and emotional. Alignment is important. If you are what Jim Stengel calls an “elicit joy” brand in his highly recommended book GROW you will want to find a cause that elicits joy. If you are a “pride” brand you will want to find a “pride” cause.

Stengel’s “Brand Ideals” are covered here:

http://sco.lt/8RPl7x

I use the Cone Study all the time to help brands and companies understand “social marketing” or the adoption of a cause that is aligned with their branding is one of the most powerful forms of social marketing. Social Marketing is available to brands big and small, companies in the service business as well as large multi-nationals.

Russ Merz, Ph.D.'s curator insight, June 16, 2:12 PM

U.S. marketers are missing the boat on this issue. A highlight of the recent GABC conference I attended, was the strong European focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental sustainability as a key part of their marketing programs.

Superfans: The Secret Weapon In Marketing #socialmarketing

Superfans: The Secret Weapon In Marketing #socialmarketing | Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it

Let’s face it—social media, like any other type of marketing, comes down to results.

Every day, people are asking about better ways to assess the value of social media. When you search for something on Google , you already know what you want, right? On social media it’s hard to track direct and immediate sales, because it is more of a discovery tool that creates a need to buy when the time is right. However, now there is a way you can directly correlate the commercial value of metrics on social media.

According to a recent report, a Facebook friend is worth about $174—a 28% increase over last year — and it is expected to increase exponentially. Wouldn’t you consider a brand suggested by a friend on Facebook over one advertised in a magazine?

Marty Note:
Great post by Brian and @MarketingHits. I shared the long version of the funny "Martin learns to become an Inernet marketer" story on G+: https://plus.google.com/u/0/102639884404823294558/posts/L8cm7eq6mLi Thanks to Brian Yanish for the great share.

BTW, this post is also closely related to why personas and segments are so important to Internet marketers. When you know WHO you are talking to you know how to talk.

Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com's insight:

Brands need to use follower analytic tools and to find Superfans. It is not hard to build a Superfan list. Then give them something special related to your brand.

Esther Coronel De Iberkleid's comment, June 14, 1:41 PM
Great comment Martin! I believe once we have the FANS the superfans are joining by themselves!! I would never consider a superfan someone I pay for. The concept for me is related with values not with money at all!
Martin (Marty) Smith's comment, June 14, 1:57 PM
Yes Esther, but SuperFans have an agenda too. When we (FoundOjbets.com the specialty gift distributor founded by Janet McKean) worked with Oprah we discovered her magic. Oprah rarely stuck her reputation all the way out there. She would take something that already had momentum and blow it apart. We did see her reach down to an ceramic artist we knew and pluck her from semi-obscurity. That interaction came after big presentations in Elle Decor and Redbook, so there was a shelf of support. Oprah (and my ex Janet McKean) must watch signal creators like those magazine like hawk on a wire. Oprah's touch of this ceramic artist blew them up and then right back down again (they didn't have their process ready for such a HUGE growth spurt). Superfans want to be a powerful second on trends that will add to their reputation as finder of cool things and trends. First is way to risky for most (Oprah included).
Esther Coronel De Iberkleid's comment, June 14, 2:39 PM
Thank you Martin for sharing such a powerful insight and comment at the same time. Yes I agree there are times when things happen and do not flow as expected possibly, always for a reason They may be successful or not, also for a reason. We definitely have to find the lesson to understand the why. I believe we are all messengers delivering messages. Some people are ready and some may not be ready. Still there is a deep lesson for all to learn. This is life!!! This is why we are here. Challenges are just ways to direct us to our final destination. Technology included!
