Sailfish tournament hooks big corporate fish - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global

Sailfish tournament hooks big corporate fish - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global | marketing maniacs | Scoop.it
The World Sailfish Championship calls itself “the world’s richest sailfish tournament,” a double entendre that applies to its prize money and the high-society individuals who compete in the event every April in Key West, Fla.
Taylor Lee Simpson's insight:

1. I learned that people are spending so much on fishing. People entering the tournament spend an average of 500,000 dollars a year on fishing and 75,000 dollars on this tournament alone.

2. I found that there being 75 boats in the contest being very interesting. If 75 boats are spending $75,000 on the tournament, there is a pretty good proffit to be made.

3.I selected the arcticle because I enjoy fishing and could possibly enter the business.

4. This helps me in the sport management industry because it shows how much money is spent and could potentially be made in the fishing industry.

NBA’s revenue exceeds expectations - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global

NBA’s revenue exceeds expectations - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global | marketing maniacs | Scoop.it
The NBA closes its 2009-10 regular season with more than $1 billion in gate revenue, down single digits from last year but less than the roughly $100 million drop in gate revenue the league had predicted.
Taylor Lee Simpson's insight:

1. I learned that the attendance rate of fans at games is slowly decreasing and the television ratings for the NBA on TNT, ESPN, and ABC are plummeting.

2.I found that the NBA recenue is around roughly 3.5 billion dollars. This is a rediculous amount of money. 1/3 of the revenue is from people coming to the game.

3.I chose this article because I had always loved basketball and I want to learn more about the NBA because my dream job would be to be an NBA refferee.

4. This will help me in the sport management business because I am now aware that people are getting turned off to orignal sports like baskeball and are focussing on newer, more intersting sports.
