Patient Services Survey 2016: Pharma’s Growing Opportunity - Accenture

Patient Services Survey 2016: Pharma’s Growing Opportunity - Accenture | Marketing & Hôpital | Scoop.it
We surveyed 200+ patient services executives in the pharma industry to understand where their companies are in developing patient services
The future of patient services is bright.

Patient Services offˆers pharmaceutical companies a tremendous opportunity—for those willing to invest in the right places and let patients know about them in the right way. We surveyed 200+ patient services executives in the pharma industry to understand where their companies are in developing patient services and where they intend to go over the next two years and contrasts that with patients told us they want, value and expect from patient services.

Our survey covered seven therapeutic areas: heart, lungs, brain, immune systems, bones, hormone/metabolism, and cancer. And guess what? Our study revealed that the future of patient services is bright—for both pharmaceutical companies and patients.

KEY FINDINGS:

Patient Services are delivering value with a significant increase in focus and investment expected over the next two years.Companies are going big with investments in digital engagement technologies and supporting analytics.Much of this investment (but not all) is aligned to what patients value

POTENTIAL BENEFITS:

Companies primarily make patients aware of their services through healthcare professionals, however, less than 1 in 5 patients are aware of the services. The majority of companies are not able to precisely measure the impact of patient services on outcomes.Heads of patient services/experience are rapidly emerging but without full ownership of the patient experience.

This research report is intended to help pharmaceutical companies’ hone in on the services that present the highest potential—for them and the people who use their therapeutics—so they can take a leadership role in shaping this rapidly evolving market and prepare for the shift from delivering products to delivering better patient and health system outcomes.

rob halkes's curator insight, June 1, 9:12 AM

Great insight from this research in what patients want and how pharma tries tof fulfill these needs. However, as this research shows too, only a less than optimal approach is chosen to disseminate and implement the services: a finding we already acknowledged in our own research of pharma's value added services. (See http://bit.ly/ValueAddedServices)
The right approach to patient services is to create and disseminate them with them instead of to them. You need to align with patient groups to know what patients want in their region within their care. Next, you may align with both physicians and patient (groups) to create local applications in healthcare. See here for more information: http://wp.me/p4pqUp-Li

Social media makes my cancer suck less

Social media makes my cancer suck less | Marketing & Hôpital | Scoop.it

It was midnight, and Margit Detweiler, a strategist with Prospect Heights content and way of life of the creator of the website TueNight.com , sat ramrod directly from his home office, Squinting at sea teal- browser windows adorned the cover of his laptop screen.

“It is the color of ovarian cancer,” says Detweiler, 48. “As soon as I was diagnosed, I went freakout mode, which to me means Googling of everything. There were so many groups and networks, but I was like,” Wait a minute, I do not do not know if I did not identify as a “cancer patient.” – I’m still Margit “”

after that, he says, that he decided to open up about her illness – through your social media channels and her website.

“It was one way I could feel some sense of control, what happened to me,” he says.

Although it is not necessarily the statement of friends want to “like” some cancer patients and survivors say that share the processing of real-time updates and struggles of social media can help them find solace. Not only does it give them a sense of community, it helps them to deal with this strange new reality, where hospital care to socialize with family responsibilities, waiting rooms working days.

The study seems to confirm this A 2015 UCLA study found that anxiety was reduced breast cancer patients who discussed their experiences on Facebook and Twitter support groups.

“I am to share all of my life social network,” says the Upper West Side resident Denise Albert, 41, co-creator of lifestyle platform TheMoms.com , who was diagnosed with breast cancer in December. “It would have felt dishonest if I had tried to cover it up, I had breast cancer. And why should I? There is no shame to take it.”

Margit Detweiler wants his followers to see what the whole picture looks like cancer, taking friends to cheer her up when she gets her hair at the salon in Brooklyn. Picture: Courtesy of Margaret

For Detweiler, it is equally important to his followers to see the whole picture of what cancer looks like. Therefore, his Instagram is a collection of topics ranging from the chemo treatments artfully arranged breakfast in a real snapshot of a large, messy, full of life.

“I certainly feel a lot of support to share my story,” says Detweiler. “It is my friends, the people I have worked with many years ago, and even complete strangers following along. It’s the one thing that makes me teary, knowing how many people rooting for me.”

Cancer experts agree that opening up to social network can be incredibly cathartic . “It is so beneficial to patients own and share experiences in their own words,” says Lynda Mandell , a psychiatrist specialized in psycho-oncology. “It is a life-threatening disease that is life-changing.”

However, the status update on cancer becomes more risks than usual “, with one of those days” post. Christine Coppa , 35, a freelance writer in Asbury Park, NJ, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2014, and says that there is a lot of stress to share something in real time, when the outcome is unknown.

“I have already gone through the treatment, but I still monitored closely for the next few years,” he says. “What if the story is not over yet?”

And even if the support is encouraged, it can be challenging when followers to ask specific medical advice. Albert points out, “One of the things I really firm about my sharing is that I am not a doctor -. All of the management plan is an incredibly personal”

And then there is the stress of always having a real-life conversations turn to health. “Sometimes I just want to say that I’m really sick to talk about myself, and I turn the discussion over to them,” Albert says.

Helps to combat fatigue-sharing, we recommend dividing the family and conquer social media accounts. “Looking back, I wish I’d set up a separate Facebook page for updates only talk about cancer,” says Detweiler. “I would definitely recommend others to consider, so there is one place in cancer-specific talk, and another place to go if you need a little break to discuss lighter topics.”

And Mandell warn friends and well-wishers to be careful what they post about the patient’s own website. “It’s one thing cancer patients to share their own stories in their personal social media profile. But posting information on someone else’s cancer experience without permission may not be helpful. If you are unsure, you should always ask if they’re okay with it.”

one thing the survivors agree on: the screen does not compensate for the IRL interaction. “I’m really a treasure, when a friend posts to me and asks me if I want to go for a walk or ask them to drop off a meal,” says Detweiler. “Sometimes I feel awful, and there’s no way I can take them down, but I’m always appreciative of the offer.”
