Remember when I said that products like this were merely a fad, and everyone laughed at me? Yeah, I do too.

 

Products like the fuel band are so singular in their approach that they can't survive at these huge prices and their minimal functionality. Why buy a nike fuelband or fitbit force/flex that records steps when a cheaper product does the same, and more accurately?

 

The first fitness" wearable" (i hate that term) that is able to track your resting hear rate, elevated heart rate, average BPM as well as letting you set a target heart rate IN ADDITION to the functionalities the current offerings provide, is the first band that will be on the right track:

 

"If all your wearable does is track steps, smartphones are about to eat your company's lunch. Just as the smartphone made the alarm clock, the MP3 player, the GPS unit, and the wristwatch obsolete, it's about to make the Nike FuelBand and other fitness wearables obsolete. For wearables like the FuelBand to survive, they need to do something more than just count steps. They need to measure other aspects of your life: Metrics like blood pressure, UV exposure, and more."

 

Wearables have a niche market and can fill great individual purposes if they aren't geared toward fitness. Elderly person tracking- health measurables and a "fall" metric would be great- is one great example discussed at the link below:
