Unilever to speak at Mobile Marketing Live / 3 October | Marketing and Creative Services | Scoop.it

Jay Altschuler, director, global media at Unilever is the latest senior digital marketer to sign up to speak at Mobile Marketing Live in London on 3 October. In a live, on-stage interview,

Altschuler will outline the FMCG giant’s approach to mobile, explaining when and why the company first started looking at mobile as a marketing channel; what it has done in the space; how it decides which of its many brands mobile is appropriate for; and looking at differences in approach geographically across the countries in which Unilever operates.

Also confirmed to speak this week is Matt Kelly, managing director of Sol361, which delivers strategy and services to newspaper groups. He will address the challenges facing newspaper owners as they try to migrate their content to mobile, and at the same time monetise it. Deutsche Telekom (DT) will also be speaking at the event. The senior developer evangelist from DT’s Developer Garden developer ecosystem will take delegates on a whistle-stop tour of M2M (machine-to-machine) innovations.

Rethink 'Brand You': Find Your Authentic Self

Rethink 'Brand You': Find Your Authentic Self | Marketing and Creative Services | Scoop.it
“This above all: to thine own self be true.” – Shakespeare If there’s one business slogan/fad/concept that’s in danger of becoming meaningless through overuse, it’s “brand you.” These days I can can spot a “brand” (as opposed to an authentic...
Wendy Flanagan's insight:

Great in theory - and always my approach - but the truth is, the average person is being TOLD by career advisors and placement firms to make the resume fit within a structure and use specific keywords. This type of advice stems from the high unemployment and HR software tools that put people into buckets and undermines originality. During times of high unemployment, hiring managers simply did not have time to review the volume of resumes. Now, in the aftermath, everyone looks the same.

"Everyone Wants Multimedia" - What It Means for B2B Marketing - LookBook

"Everyone Wants Multimedia" - What It Means for B2B Marketing - LookBook | Marketing and Creative Services | Scoop.it

Key excerpt...

A recent report from PR Newswire contained a conclusion that we think is pretty darn important for B2B marketers. They found that press releases that contain multimedia - photos, videos plus additional documents such as PDF, Word or PowerPoint files - saw a whopping 77% increase in responsecompared to text-only press releases. In fact, the more content types and number of pieces of content in the press release, the higher the engagement.

We think the implications for B2B marketing may be enormous. Conventional wisdom in B2B marketing has it that one should only serve a single piece of content per interaction with a lead or prospect, that they must be nurtured slowly in case they become overwhelmed and run away. But that's not what PR Newswire found. They found that companies that served up multiple content artifacts of different types at a single sitting - multimedia if you will - saw higher engagement.

A working group of an Internet standards body has decided that Web users should be able to decline custom-targeted advertising, but hurdles remain before a final agreement can be reached.

While this has huge impact for the advertising community and marketing budgets - the real issue today is government tracking and recording of individuals, which remains completely unaddressed.

The 6 Most Effective Local-Mobile Targeting Strategies

The 6 Most Effective Local-Mobile Targeting Strategies | Marketing and Creative Services | Scoop.it

Location-based mobile marketing promises the sky: high conversion rates, surgical targeting, and rich consumer profiles.

But does it deliver? According to many accounts, it does. Not surprisingly, retailers, brands, and agencies are scrambling to hone their location-based approaches. A recent survey of 400 brand executives by Balihoo found that 91% planned to increase their investments in location-based marketing campaigns in 2013.

In a new report from BI Intelligence on location-mobile marketing, we take a look at key stats on the location-based services marketplace that indicate it's supremacy in mobile marketing, and explain how the most important techniques (such as geo-aware, geo-fenced, audience-based local-mobile campaigns) work.

We specifically examine the cornerstones - such as data and audience building - to a successful location-based mobile strategy, look at who has the valuable location-based data, and analyze the six most effective local-mobile marketing tactics.

Animal advertising: 5 reasons why animals should play a larger role in B2B | b2bmarketing.net | Marketing and Creative Services | Scoop.it
Animals remain triumphant in B2C Adland. Whether it’s Müller’s Mary the cow, the new ‘be more dog’ video by O2 or Cadbury’s iconic Gorilla, consumers are obsessed with creatures of all kinds. However, animals are less prominent in B2B marketing.
Wendy Flanagan's insight:

10 Surprising social media statistics that might make you rethink your social strategy - - The Buffer Blog

10 Surprising social media statistics that might make you rethink your social strategy - - The Buffer Blog | Marketing and Creative Services | Scoop.it
If you're managing social media for your business, it might be useful to know about some of the most surprising social media statistics this year. Here are ten that might make you rethink the way you're approaching social media.
Wendy Flanagan's insight:

Many people don't recognize the difference between Social Media as entertainment vs Social Networking as a business strategy. Trying to advertise B2B products in a social entertainment channel is still a big questionmark.

Consumers buy a brand because they love it, and may feel passionate about it. Business people buy a product or service because they need to as part of their jobs. If it happens to be a crossover brand that also works direct-to-consumer, the purchaser may have a personal loyalty to the brand. If it happens to be an entrepreneur, that individual may blur the lines of individual emotion and business transaction.

While B2B #marketing has definitely become more aligned with B2C marketing, there are a myriad of differences.
