I agree with one of the commentors on this post, that said, Google is doing this in response to the competition with FB et al. FB is making huge inroads in Googles once great monopoly.  You can still find keywords that will rank with reverse attack marketing and can learn about it here: http://www.reverse-attack-marketing.info

Quote from Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land: "

Publishers allow search engines to index their content, which is used by the search engines as the core content they can put lucrative ads around.

In return, search engines have provided traffic to publishers and data on how those publishers are found. That latter part of the ‘deal’ was unilaterally pulled by Google.”""

Google Ranking Factors: A Discreetly Cleaner, More Social Web & An Ever Dominating Search Engine

Google Ranking Factors: A Discreetly Cleaner, More Social Web & An Ever Dominating Search Engine | Marketing and Creative Services | Scoop.it

Recently, Search Metrics released a white paper on their findings for Google’s SEO Ranking Factors in 2013. It displays the correlation between particular metrics such as ‘Facebook Likes’ and ‘Backlinks’ and the rank ability of a page within Google.

Also available in the 70 page document are comparisons with 2012’s data, where that data is available. Not to many marketers surprise, a lot has changed. According to Search Metrics, it’s time to get social! In this article I graze upon some of the most important areas as well as my thoughts on what Google is playing it – for better and worse.

The data from search metrics is based on research and is not 100% factual. Nor are my opinions factual, but rather opinions and statements based on what I believe to be happening.

Old vs. New PR, and What Offers Better ROI

Old vs. New PR, and What Offers Better ROI | Marketing and Creative Services | Scoop.it
Need to know how many people read your press release online? Wondering how many Twitter followers you gained after an Internet-based publicity stunt?

Wendy Flanagan's insight:

I'm offering PR components online via PRWeb and Social at a "nice" price, primarily for SEO purposes. I always take a moment to clarify: It's not the same as a true PR professional offers... someone who has cultivated relationships with editors, working with them to find the topics and angles necessary to create compelling and wide media coverage.

The questions you have to ask are: What are my goals? What am I willing to spend to get there? How much could it be worth to my business?

PR and advertising is a huge part of IMC and with new PR being available, this makes its easier for companies to communicate with their consumers much easier. One of the biggest things highlighted in this article is how much easier it is to measure the success rate of PR and advertising. It is simple to see how many new followers a company has on twitter or how many likes they have gained on Facebook. Back in the day, it was hard to measure the amount of people that were receiving the advertisement. Also with using PR in the new style, it makes reaching younger consumers much easier than when you place an advertisement in a newspaper or magazine. This article truly shows how important PR and advertising is to IMC and the best ways that a successful campaign can be accomplished.

Tegan Thomas's comment, September 25, 2013 5:38 AM
Too true Chelsea! PR is such a significant role in the way people get the ads for products. There is also a significant amount of people that do not use social media yet and they could be missing out on some of the companies that only use social media for their advertising and they are missing a whole demographic.
Janis Wu's comment, September 25, 2013 6:52 AM
Great insight, Chelsea! Since you have mentioned that it is more easier for companies to get direct measurements from their advertising campaigns. And also, using these new PR strategies easily benefits the target customers and current customers via exposing the direct messages to them. It helps the business to save a lot of money as well, in others, saving more money within an organization is receiving more revenue.
