Stop Looking for Links: Build WOW Content and Let Users Talk About You

Stop Looking for Links: Build WOW Content and Let Users Talk About You | marketing and content creation | Scoop.it

Rand’s recent WBF about co-occurrence was a real wake up call for those still transfixed with link building practices of old.

Robin Good's curator insight, February 25, 4:28 PM

Simon Penson, founder of Zazzle Media, has a fascinating article on the future of SEO, that I have been wanting to highlight for some time. He argues and provides good supporting reference to the idea that Google is moving away from primarily leveraging links and anchor text to evaluate web site relevance to the use of semantic analysis of text co-occrunces to determine it.

He writes: "Imagine being able to outreach awesome content without having to look for links.

Simply make people aware of what you are doing and get them to talk about you.

It’s how it should be and it would have a profound effect on the type of content you might produce and brand-marketing activity you might pursue."

The article is rich in valuable references and tools for anyone interested in exploring this topic.

Game changing. Resourceful. 8/10

Justin Bruce's curator insight, February 25, 8:05 PM

From an SEO perspective, google is updating all teh time and reliance on linkbuilding is dangerous as we have just seen with a key client.

Google still recommend a link building stratgy but suggest you diversify into PR and social media to build page rank. That means you need to create great content and promote it.

From a conversion perspective, great contnet is not enough, it must also be relevant. Look through your email subject matter from your customers over the past year and match this with search queries in analytics (not keywords but actual terms they used to find you) and there's your relevant topic and inspiration. Now you gotta do it daily.

Don't forget contributing to other publishers (especially popular and high authority sites) also constitues as content. Curation is fine if relevant (check out scoop.it) but creation is always best, it takes time so allocate time!

Pierre Marchildon's curator insight, February 27, 5:28 PM

While 'curation' has become the new buzzword, the difference in meaning between this term, and 'content management', digital writing, blogs and even digital libraries is less and less clear.  I hate the way our understanding of things is clouded by the technology industry, and does not consider the opinions or work of information professionals.

How To Convert Prezi To YouTube Videos | PowerPoint Presentation | marketing and content creation | Scoop.it

Anyone who has used the Prezi platform would know that creating a Prezi and uploading it to Prezi.com is easy enough, however when it comes to converting it to a YouTube video, there seems to be no native method of doing so. While you can convert PowerPoint to video formats using a native PowerPoint feature, the same cannot be said for the Prezi application. However, you can convert Prezi to YouTube by using a workaround.

Pinterest Introduces 'News' Feature to Improve Content Discovery

Pinterest Introduces 'News' Feature to Improve Content Discovery | marketing and content creation | Scoop.it

In place of Pinterest's activity feed, the company has installed a new tool called "News." The feed displays boards where your recent pins have been repinned, creating a feed of potentially relevant content that users can peruse from their own profiles or those of others.

According to an entry in Pinterest's help center, News is meant to foster content discovery. "To make relevant and interesting content easier to find, we are introducing News," Pinterest writes. "We think this will help pinners like you find more relevant boards and pins more easily."

Pinterest began testing News among a gradual population of users on Jan. 16. It is unclear precisely when News will roll out to the entire network, although the company anticipates "over the next few weeks." Pinterest could not be reached for comment.

Visual Storytelling Helps Engage Customers in Your Brand's "Why"

Visual Storytelling Helps Engage Customers in Your Brand's "Why" | marketing and content creation | Scoop.it

"Thanks to social networks, we’ve naturally been driven to a host of metrics that include attributes of “engagement” and conversations shared online."

"This, in turn, has fueled the content marketing race – and ultimately, the quest for producing what is most relevant or valuable to a company’s current and prospective customers."

"As we compete in this context to draw attention for our brand and offerings, perhaps one element has remained constant above all others: the power of visual storytelling."

Via streetsmartprof, massimo facchinetti
streetsmartprof's curator insight, January 26, 9:11 AM

Many of the examples in the article are focused on B2C, yet the "why" is a human to human interaction, (H2H).

The product or service is in the background and "The Why", (as explained by Simon Sinek), is clearly present loud and clear.

If you are working on a marketing campaign, give this article some serious review and reflect on what you might change.

Do you recall a great ad in the B2B space which incorporated "The Why" from a customers point of view?

"What Can Brown Do For You." These UPS ads helped them take market share in the B2B space held by others at the time.

A valid question raised by the article, "Do your product and service Why's align with your customers experience?"

A Curated Collection of Quality Clipart and Illustrations: ClipArt ETC

A Curated Collection of Quality Clipart and Illustrations: ClipArt ETC | marketing and content creation | Scoop.it
Robin Good's curator insight, January 19, 7:45 AM

ClipArt ETC is a wonderful collection of quality educational clipart providing simple illustrations, icons and drawings in a multitude of areas, from history, to business, art, literature, music and sports.

A project of the Florida Center for Instructional Technology of University of South Florida), ClipArt ETC has curated over 65,000 images and organized, categorized each one of them, while providing descriptions and multiple file formats in which to download them.

I must say they really did a wonderful job. The images are great, the quality is excellent, the organization of the catalog is well done and easy to navigate.

From the official site: "Every item comes with a choice of image size and format as well as complete source information for proper citations in school projects.

No advertisement-filled pages with pop-up windows or inappropriate links here.

A friendly license allows teachers and students to use up to 50 educational clipart items in a single, non-commercial project without further permission."

The ClipArt ETC resource was designed and intended for educational projects but due to the many commercial requests it has received it now offers a "commercial" shopping cart to purchase any of its images for commercial applications. More info here: http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/info/license
