The Connection Between EQ And Personal Branding

The Connection Between EQ And Personal Branding | Marketing and Business Insights | Scoop.it
It’s no coincidence that effective personal branding has a lot in common with Daniel Goleman’s two cornerstones of emotional intelligence - looking within and having a clear-eyed view of how the world perceives you. Here's how emotional intelligence supports personal branding.

This article illustrates us the importance on one's emotional intelligence, and base these understanding on three main targets which are the self, others and world at large. This shows how well you are aware of your own feelings and how in touch with others perceptions of yourself or your personal brand. The first and foremost perspective to take into account in branding in a general perspective is the consumer and who your target audience is. This means taking into account all others perspectives of your personal brand and defining your own characteristics to shape who you want your target audience is to brand to. This includes who you want to work for or what you want to do and how you intend to do this and why/what makes your brand the best candidate for the job/task/position based on your skill set. All this is the key formation and platform ground work for building a personal brand and this is accomplished whens one's emotional intelligence is understood and recognized. As the article states for a successful personal branding campaign there is a three-step process for understanding your own emotional intelligence: Know, on a personal level your own authentication of your brand and the who, what, why's of  your brand. Show, which is the constructing of personal branding tool, both emotionally and materialistically, to resemble ones brands beliefs. And alas to grow, where networking is an essential asset and growing not only to partners but also stakeholders and as the article also states "in the real and virtual world" which I believe emphasizes the importance of in-person and online growth and networking.

With the rising population and competitive business, the need to self-promote and differentiate oneself compared to rival competitors looking for the same position. This is called personal branding. The article gives insight into thought leadership which is essentially what personal branding allows one to accomplish. Social media has been a huge catalyst in the ability for someone to get on a platform (like LinkedIn) which make the ability to gain a following easily. More credible social media platforms are being created more often now with Instagram, Twitter and FaceBook all being huge competitors in the social media market. Even more unofficial applications like Snapchat have allowed people to create a 'personal brand' in which individuals and even brands (as they advertise) promote themselves through short 10 second photo or video clips. The article states how leaders will invest more in employees brands, and emphasizes the importance of networking and people to influence and/or be influenced by, investments into personal brands, development of LinkedIn and what is the ability to credit your personal brand as logical, and verify or authenticate your brand.
