Free Technology for Teachers: Four Good Ways to Use Media In Your Classroom Blog | marked for sharing | Scoop.it

Watching videos and commenting on them or looking at a picture and commenting on it are the most common ways that teachers have students use media in blog posts. There is definitely value in those activities as they do get students to think, write, and share. These are some other ways to think about using media in your classroom blog.

Free PDF: Pip Shea - Co-Creating Knowledge Online

Free PDF: Pip Shea - Co-Creating Knowledge Online | marked for sharing | Scoop.it

Co-Creating Knowledge Online is the second booklet in a series of Internet field guides (formerly “critical guides”) I have developed for community artists and culture makers. It is for those who are interested in better utilising the Internet to connect, share, and make new knowledge. It builds on the premise that people have become increasingly networked as individuals rather than in groups, and that these new ways of connecting enable new modes of peer-to-peer co-creation. It is an attempt to translate my PhD research findings for community arts practitioners, and was inspired by the practices of CuriousWorks.

Christin Lopez's curator insight, October 23, 2014 7:15 AM

This site provides a way to have an online textbook that you can share with students. Even in the free edition, there are upgrade charges for features and more storage, you can create and join classes.

It looks like this has the potential to be a great resource, but I found trouble right away while searching for a couple topics that I currently teach. There are not textbooks that have tags that help me find what I was looking for. This made me question if the information is on the site and not tagged, or is it too new that others have not uploaded information. I thought that the software creators would have obtained copyright privileges for a number of topics to start the site out. They would have been seed ideas to get the ball rolling. For you to upload PDFs, you need to have the copyright permissions. So while the potential is there for individualizing, it is not a quick jump right into it.

Free Technology for Teachers: 200+ Novel Games for Your Classroom Website | marked for sharing | Scoop.it

In my previous post I mentioned that I once put some games in the sidebar of a blog classroom blog. I did that because I had a group of students that I knew enjoyed games. I put the games in the blog to make the blog a little more appealing and hopefully get my students in the habit of visiting the blog often. The source of the games that I embedded into the blog was Novel Games.Novel Games offers more than 200 games that you can embed into your blog, wiki, or website for free. Most of the games are simple logic games, basic mathematics games, geography games, and spelling games like hangman. Novel Games also offers Sudoku and Mahjongg games.

Today there are over six billion mobile phone subscriptions worldwide, and for every one person who accesses the internet from a computer two do so from a mobile device. Given the ubiquity and rapidly expanding functionality of mobile technologies, UNESCO is enthusiastic about their potential to improve and facilitate learning, particularly in communities where educational opportunities are scarce. This Working Paper Series scans the globe to illuminate the ways in which mobile technologies can be used to support the United Nations Education for All Goals; respond to the challenges of particular educational contexts; supplement and enrich formal schooling; and make learning more accessible, equitable, personalized and flexible for students everywhere.
