This is an excellent example of using a map to create the illusion of a shrinking planet.  Everything on this map is shown approximately equal distance from the next city or hamlet.  In reality we are aware that these cities are not really that close to each other but this map makes them seem as if they are by creating spatial relationships that don’t really exist.
