Farai Mhandu's curator insight, April 27, 2015 2:52 PM

Machine operation involves repetitive tasks such as lifting. These repetitive tasks can be annoying to the operator and as a result the operator may choose to take short cuts in carrying out their work. Shortcuts usually involve improper methods of lifting and though these may seem convenient they tend to pose risk to the back. Repetitive incorrect manual handling compromises the bone structure of the body and often results in back injury which is permanent. This scoops aims to educate workers on correct ways of manual handling.  Proper manual handling is key for a machine operator who has to constantly take raw stock from the shelf and feed it through a machine. Following the simple steps in the video above whenever carrying out manual handling will ensure a safe operation, a healthy body and a longer working life. It is always important for every worker to acknowledge that there is no task that can be deemed too important or too urgent not to take time to do it in the safest possible way.
