6 phases of professional, Place-Based Learning

6 phases of professional, Place-Based Learning | Manejando conocimiento | Scoop.it
Let’s take a giant step back and accept that place-based education is not new. In the midst of project-based, problem-based, deeper learning, experiential learning, and all of the other acronym-ready methods that challenge teachers and students to think about approaches different from the industrial model, place-based education lives in the background, patiently waiting to be uncovered once more.

For most of history, education has always been embedded in place. Out of necessity, lack of other resources, and simply the need to pass on cultural, political, and ecological information, place was used to teach – about food sources, land ownership, leadership and governance, history, art and stories. In our recent history of industrialization, we removed the veil of place and inserted a one-size-fits-all model to teach all students in the same way with the important goals of reading, writing and math literacy for all students. In the process of doing so, however, we decreased relevance, agency and impact in schools to such low levels that many students (and teachers) were left behind.

Why Corporations Have a Talent Problem

Why Corporations Have a Talent Problem | Manejando conocimiento | Scoop.it
The reason most corporations are broken when it comes to talent acquisition is they are simply looking for the wrong things through the wrong lens. Their hiring models are built for the old economy. They are looking for conformity rather than a non-conformity. They look to protect the status quo rather than disrupt it. They are hiring for the present and not for the future.

When organizations’ hire, develop, and promote leaders using a competency-based model, they’re unwittingly incubating failure and obsolescence. Nothing fractures corporate culture faster, and eviscerates talent development efforts more rapidly, than rewarding the wrong people for the wrong reasons. Don’t reward technical competency – reward aggregate contribution.

Mickael Ruau's curator insight, September 21, 2016 8:49 AM

[Infographic] How our brains process different kinds of content | Manejando conocimiento | Scoop.it

Our brains process different types of content in different ways, whether it’s written text, visual images, graphic animations, or interactive content. Did you know that it takes your brain about 1/10th of a second to interpret and understand visual content? Some types of content are faster for us to take in, while other types stick more easily in our memories.

This infographic dives into the science behind how the brain processes various forms of content. For marketers, this knowledge is key - understanding the way the brain engages with content can drive your decisions about what types of content to produce, depending on your campaign goals.

Working to learn

Working to learn | Manejando conocimiento | Scoop.it
This is an extract from Learning to work and working to learn by Ronald Barnett, published in 1999. It is even more relevant seventeen years later.

“In this chapter, I shall suggest that, in understanding their relationships in the contemporary era, work and learning can profitably be placed against the background of wider societal and even global shifts. I shall suggest that we live in an age of supercomplexity. That is to say, we live in an age in which our very frameworks for comprehending the world, for acting in it and for relating to each other are entirely problematic. We live in a world characterised by contestability, challengeability, uncertainty and unpredictability.

Top 200 tools for learning 2016

Top 200 tools for learning 2016 | Manejando conocimiento | Scoop.it

It was in 2007 that I compiled the first Top 100 Tools for Learning from the votes of learning professionals worldwide and have done so every year since then. This year to mark the 10th anniversary I have compiled the TOP 200 TOOLS FOR LEARNING 2016. The full list appears in the left-hand sidebar; follow the links to find out more about each of the tools. The slideset of the Top 200 Tools is embedded at the bottom of this page.

This year’s big news is that Twitter loses its No 1 place on the list after 7 years, but the Top 200 list contains a huge variety of tools – with many more new tools being included this year. So how are all these being used for learning? In order to address that question I compiled a BEST OF BREED 2016 list in which I categorise the different tools, as well as 3 sub-lists that show the popularity of the tools in different contexts.

Not only do these activities take time, they are highly social, as success often depends on who we work with.
