Comment on Personal 3D Printing User Study Indicates Market Is Evolving. | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
It seems to me that we have seen the startup phase of a popular technology, similar to what happened with home computers in the early 80s. At first early adopters were building from kits or even scratch because cheap machines were not available.
Carlos Fosca's insight:

"...Unlike what most people generally refer to as “3D printing” today, personal 3D printers have only been available for about seven years, and sales of these devices have seen explosive growth. Personal 3D printing is a vibrant, young and chaotic market segment with a lot of potential for disruption.."

Daniel Watson's curator insight, October 8, 2013 6:15 PM

Most businesseses, will at some point in their evolution, attempt to introduce a new product to their chosen market.

Given that the vast majority of new product launches fail to excite their markets and disappear from sight very quickly, it pays for any business thinking of launching a new product, to first determine that their proposed product possesses the qualities of past successful products.

This excellent article, highlights the very real downside of launching a new product, and it offers a 10 point checklist that any business can use to evaluate their proposed offering against to determine whether or not to proceed with any proposed launch.

Open data: we need to share research results, even when they are wrong | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
There are huge flaws in the way research data is uploaded, says Mark Hahnel, but how far are we from a universal solution?
Carlos Fosca's insight:

.."Given that the large majority of scientific information is 'negative data' (where hypotheses are found to have failed), the loss of these findings to the wider community leads to the needless repetition of time-consuming experiments. This is a self-perpetuating problem. If researchers are basing their hypotheses on published literature alone, they will likely be wasting time and money on repeating failed experiments – at best, reproducing false data; at worst, creating a new set of false positives..."

Sorry Class Warriors, Small Businesses Are Not The Backbone Of The U.S. Economy

Sorry Class Warriors, Small Businesses Are Not The Backbone Of The U.S. Economy | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
Left and Right have sold Americans on a crippling falsehood about the alleged wonders of small business.
Carlos Fosca's insight:

..”As economist Enrico Moretti pointed out in his masterful 2012 book, The New Geography of Jobs, big businesses are the principal drivers of small business job creation.

Small businesses, for being small, almost by definition exploit their customers inadvertently for them lacking the buying power that would enable them to offer their patrons products and services at the lowest price…”
