Crowd-- ¿qué?... ¡Llegó la hora! | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it

“The ability to become an entrepreneur has never been easier,” he says. “People are starting their own driving businesses with Uber, raising money with sites like Kickstarter, selling their own products on sites like Etsy, and offering services on Elance-Odesk. The ability to learn anything you want and build an offering around it has never been easier, and the demand never greater… I think the freelancer economy has started, but is nowhere near where it will be in 5 years.”

The six pillars of innovation at Blackboard

The six pillars of innovation at Blackboard | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it

"Blackboard led the market in many of these categories and in fact popularized the Learning Management System (LMS) and we continue to lead the LMS market with our Learn and Moodle products; adding more and more functionality for the most fervent and loyal power users. While that leadership has empowered Blackboard with the most full-featured and powerful feature set, it also created a classic “Innovator’s Dilemma”—where we served our primary customer (system administrators and power users) versus focusing on the emerging needs of the user—the growing base of tens of millions of learners who use our products every day. Part of our journey these past two years has been to continue to support the IT admin and the power user, while reorienting the company to serve an additional and arguably the most important audience, the learner."

Will Technology Replace The Physician to Diagnose and Treat Diseases?

Will Technology Replace The Physician to Diagnose and Treat Diseases? | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
IBM’s Watson supercomputer has been furiously studying all the medical literature that is out there. Combining its cognitive computing capabilities with a capacity to read 65 Million pages of text per second, Watson is now a qualified doctor and is capable of diagnosing diseases based on symptoms and even recommending a treatment.

With the help of natural language processing (NLP), the computer not only pulls out relevant terms to match the search terms in a clinician's query, but it also understands idioms and some sentences with incorrect English. Experts at IBM are quick to point out that Watson is not just a "search engine on steroids" or even a massive database. In fact, Watson relies on parallel probabilistic algorithms to analyze millions of pages of unstructured text in patient records and the medical literature to locate the most relevant answers to diagnostic and treatment-related questions.
