The first 3D Printer for Composites

The first 3D Printer for Composites | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
Composites are one of the most interesting new frontiers for 3D printing materials, albeit one that is only at the very (very) beginning of its exploration. While there have already been practical attempts to implement composite material in 3D printing processes (such as this one by voxeljet) the first 3D printer that promises to be able to effectively 3D print using composite materials is the Markforged Mark One, which has just received the prestigious ACE (Award for Composites Excellence) from the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA).

8 Ways to Make Your Presentation More Interactive | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it

In a recent survey we conducted with the help of Harris Poll, almost half of the respondents admitted to doing something other than listening during a co-worker’s presentation—popular answers included sending a text message (28 percent), checking email (27 percent), and falling asleep (17 percent). To say the least, it can be difficult to hold an audience’s attention, let alone get your message across when presenting. By making your presentation more interactive, you can help your audience

Successful Innovators Don’t Care About Innovating

Successful Innovators Don’t Care About Innovating | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
Successful innovators care about solving interesting and important problems — innovation is merely a byproduct. If this distinction seems like hair-splitting, it isn’t. The two focuses create vastly different realities.

Focusing on innovating — as a worthy goal unto itself — tends to be born from self-centered motives: We need to protect ourselves from competitive forces. We need to ensure we have a growth engine. We need to keep up with other companies. To do all these things, we need to innovate. This is often a CYA perspective coming from an executive suite looking to protect its turf. It isn’t inherently bad. It’s just that this focus tends to create a culture where customers are on the sidelines, not in the center of the dialogue.

Apple deberá ser operador si quiere hacer negocio con su ‘SIM blanca’

Apple deberá ser operador si quiere hacer negocio con su ‘SIM blanca’ | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it

The Innovation Challenge For Lockheed Martin

The Innovation Challenge For Lockheed Martin | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
The innovation challenge for most big companies isn’t that there’s no vision to create new things, nor that employees are unable or unwilling to do it; rather, it’s that the very fabric of corporate and civil governance is inherently resistant to change. So even if Lockheed can overcome its institutional barriers and make the fusion project as transformational as it should be, its competitors will have a far easier time undercutting and slowing it. Government will, too.

Ignore Emotional Intelligence at Your Own Risk

Ignore Emotional Intelligence at Your Own Risk | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
Call it Grant vs. Goleman. Two academic heavyweights face off on a topic that every student of leadership and HR cares — or at least hears — a lot about: emotional intelligence. Wharton professor Adam Grant kicks it off with a LinkedIn blog post, “Emotional Intelligence Is Overrated,” arguing that “it’s a mistake to base hiring or promotion decisions on it” and that “even in emotionally demanding work, when it comes to job performance, cognitive ability still proves more consequential than emotional intelligence.” Daniel Goleman, the psychologist credited with coining the term EI (and, full disclosure, a friend), issues his rebuttal, “Let’s Not Underrate Emotional Intelligence,” questioning the specific assessment of EI used by Grant, and referring to the various studies conducted by “The Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence.” And the comments fly.

ORNL Controls Metal at the Microscale - 3D Printing Industry

ORNL Controls Metal at the Microscale - 3D Printing Industry | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
At the Materials Science & Technology 2014 conference in Pittsburgh, this week, staff scientists and metal 3D printing lead at ORNL’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility, Ryan Dehoff, announced that the national lab has gained the ability to control the structure and properties of metal 3D prints at the microscopic scale.
Dehoff explains, “We can now control local material properties, which will change the future of how we engineer metallic components. This new manufacturing method takes us from reactive design to proactive design. It will help us make parts that are stronger, lighter and function better for more energy-efficient transportation and energy production applications such as cars and wind turbines.”

Welcome to the Era of Product Intelligence

Welcome to the Era of Product Intelligence | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
While the PR on Big Data suggests that it is the newest and holiest grail for strategists, marketers, product developers, and business decision-makers of all stripes, a new hybrid intelligence is emerging from the smoke and mirrors — one that may be prove to be a little more practical and actionable: Product Intelligence.

What makes Product Intelligence interesting to us as a field of focus is that it is a superb application for Big Data – providing highly targeted, real time intelligence that serves up insights INSIDE of the new product development process at the exact moment when conclusive, authoritative insight is most needed. When it’s literally make or break.
