Can high-tech photosynthesis turn CO2 into fuel for your car?

Can high-tech photosynthesis turn CO2 into fuel for your car? | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
It’s not science fiction: research groups all over the world have been working to develop artificial photosynthesis, which could greatly reduce our dependence on crude oil and make use of the growing amount of manmade carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to climate change. The concept received a nod from US President Barack Obama when he mentioned “turning sunlight into liquid fuel” in his State of the Union speech in January.

Open Innovation 2.0

Open Innovation 2.0 | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
Open Innovation 2.0 (OI2) is a new paradigm based on a Quadruple Helix Model where government, industry, academia and civil participants work together to co-create the future and drive structural changes far beyond the scope of what any one organization or person could do alone. This model encompasses also user-oriented innovation models to take full advantage of ideas' cross-fertilisation leading to experimentation and prototyping in real world setting.

Neuroplasticity: Rewiring Your Brain For Optimal Learning

Neuroplasticity: Rewiring Your Brain For Optimal Learning | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it

"Just as weightlifting and physical exercise builds your muscles, when you’re learning the nerve cells in your brain are growing with mental exercise and these neurons are developing greater connectivity.

The growth and rewiring of our brain cells is called neuroplasticity. As we learn, our brain literally remodels itself based on our new experiences.

Until recently, the conventional thinking was that our brains were hardwired at birth and therefore unchangeable. In actuality, our brains are like malleable plastic that is constantly being reshaped by our daily experiences."

How Becoming a Father Changes Your Brain

How Becoming a Father Changes Your Brain | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
A team led by Pilyoung Kim at the Universities of Denver and Yale twice scanned the brains of 16 new fathers (average age 36; 7 were first-time dads). The first scan took place between 2 and 4 weeks after their babies were born; the second scan 12 to 16 weeks later. Previous research has shown functional changes in the brains of fathers, in the way that they show heightened neural activity in response to the sight of their own infants. However, this is the first time that researchers have documented structural changes in the brains of human fathers.

You Need an Innovation Strategy

You Need an Innovation Strategy | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it

Despite massive investments of management time and money, innovation remains a frustrating pursuit in many companies. Innovation initiatives frequently fail, and successful innovators have a hard time sustaining their performance—as Polaroid, Nokia, Sun Microsystems, Yahoo, Hewlett-Packard, and countless others have found. Why is it so hard to build and maintain the capacity to innovate? The reasons go much deeper than the commonly cited cause: a failure to execute. The problem with innovation improvement efforts is rooted in the lack of an innovation strategy. By Gary Pisano

Unique 3D Multi-Metal Printer Prints in Gold, Platinum, Titanium Ink – Starting at $40K – Coming Soon!

Unique 3D Multi-Metal Printer Prints in Gold, Platinum, Titanium Ink – Starting at $40K – Coming Soon! | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
While desktop 3D printers are available now starting at well under $1000, companies that wish to print in a larger range of materials than what is offered on desktop FFF or SLA 3D printers must still be willing to fork over a much larger chunk of money. Then when it comes to 3D printing in metal, not even mid- to large-sized companies are able to afford that type of technology. 3D metal printers can cost up to and over $1 million, pricing just about all but the Fortune 500 companies out of the market.

One company hopes to change this though. i-Scientifica is a company which has developed a working prototype for a 3D metal printer, as well as unique metal inks for use within the printer. They have already provided a proof of concept with various metals being printed directly from CAD data.

The Startup Illusion

The Startup Illusion | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it

"Having an idea is easy; being able to make it into something profitable is what separates the failures and the success stories. As a student, you have the opportunity to take advantage of an enormous amount of collective experience to help you build your business — in the future.

In short, if you’re an aspiring entrepreneur, see through the veil. I am acutely aware of both the potential for failure and the chance of success, so heed my warning; the startup game is rigged. Hedge your bets and stay in school, but don’t ever stop working toward transforming your dreams of entrepreneurial success into a reality". By Noah Benesch

What does the digital economy mean for competitiveness?

What does the digital economy mean for competitiveness? | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
The world economy is currently in the midst of a shift from the internet economy to what can be best called the Digital Consumer Economy, writes Natarajan Chandrasekaran.
Carlos Fosca's insight:
