Supercomputer simulates 1 second of brain activity. It took 40 minutes. | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
Harnessing more than 82,000 processors on the world's fourth-ranked supercomputer, scientists run an experiment that represents 1 percent of human brain activity. Read this article by Tim Hornyak on CNET.
Carlos Fosca's insight:

It took the Fujitsu supercomputer about 40 minutes to complete a simulation of one second of neuronal network activity in real time, according to Japanese research institute RIKEN, which runs the machine.

IBM Is Running a Brain Computer On "Electronic Blood"

IBM Is Running a Brain Computer On "Electronic Blood" | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
As part of what we can only assume is preparation for some very intense mad scientist Halloween costumes, IBM has announced a prototype computer that is both powered and cooled by an electrolyte liquid.
Carlos Fosca's insight:

"...IBM, like everyone, is pretty taken with the capacity and energy efficiency of the human brain and wants to try to replicate it. Of course the brain is skull-sized and only uses 20 watts of energy per day, so it's a high bar to try to match, but IBM is hoping that its new "redox flow" system will bring it closer:::"
