Where Will The World's Water Conflicts Erupt?

Where Will The World's Water Conflicts Erupt? | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it

As the climate shifts, rivers will both flood and dry up more often, according to the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Shortages are especially likely in parts of the world already strapped for water, so political scientists expect feuds will become even more intense. To track disputes worldwide, researchers at Oregon State University spent a decade building a comprehensive database of international exchanges—-both conflicts and alliances—over shared water resources. They found that countries often begin disputes belligerently but ultimately reach peaceful agreements. Says Aaron Wolf, the geographer who leads the project, “For me the really interesting part is how even Arabs and Israelis, Indians and Pakistanis, are able to resolve their differences and find a solution.”

Some children on the autism spectrum lack an interest in teamwork, as they'd rather do things themselves in the way they want to. For this reason, it's important to show them-and other kids, not only those with special needs-why it's good to work as a team when with others.

Ways to do this include having them do activities in which it is easier to work as a team than an individual. Another way is to reward them for working together and providing reasons why teamwork is necessary.

After spending time with my family this past week, which includes 5 boys and 2 girls under the age of 10 - I realized just how addicting video games have become. They each had their own iPad or iPhone to play games on - which meant they were all playing seperately rather than together. It made the whole family experience feel a bit disjointed...

Taryn Coxall's curator insight, October 8, 2013 7:24 PM

This article gives great insight into the upcoming phenominon of "Game Based Learning".Although i have never seen it in my practises, after reading abit about it, i believe game based learning is something i would incoperate into my own classroom. Game Based learning provides a stimulating and engaging way of learning for children on a wide range of educational areas and topics. It is proven through this approach to learning students aremore likely to become motivated to learn, become increasingly engage and excel in their learning.
Although many peoleay belive an "old school" approach to teaching is best, i feel it is highly necassary to kepp up with the fast moving pace of technology on offer, and use theseresources to help student in the classroom. Most learners that i have come aross are kinaesthetic learning, being one myself i can see how these games will help a variety of different learners and create opportunity for divergent thinking.

great resource which has iven me great insight.

Love this infographic. What it says is we lucky few Internet marketers have several dimensions to think about when we use social media including:

* Are we communicating on MARS or VENUS?
* What is the NATIVE language of the platform?

* What are the stated and unstated RULES of the platform?
* How do we NOT step on a crack and break our SMM's back?

Great infographic.

Funny. On the day of the Facebook offering I heard major players discuss how they were doubling down on Google while limiting their Facebook investments confirming a trend everyone in my tribe of Internet marketers felt - Google's resurgence. Great infographic here showing just how broad, wide and powerful Google's "resurgence' is and we are only half way through the second act.
