A step towards early Alzheimer's diagnosis

A step towards early Alzheimer's diagnosis | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
If Alzheimer's disease is to be treated in the future, it requires an early diagnosis, which is not yet possible.
Carlos Fosca's insight:
..."Most researchers now agree that one cause of the illness is toxic accumulations – plaques – of the beta amyloid protein. In a healthy brain, the cells are cleansed of such surplus products through lysosomes, the cells’ “waste disposal facilities” (green in the picture).

Study links concussion with Alzheimer's disease brain pathology

Study links concussion with Alzheimer's disease brain pathology | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
Alzheimer's disease has become an increasing burden in older patients, which is why research into its causes is a high priority.
Carlos Fosca's insight:

Exercise may ward off Alzheimer's and Parkinson's

Exercise may ward off Alzheimer's and Parkinson's | Managing Technology and Talent for Learning & Innovation | Scoop.it
When US scientists gave non-exercising mice a protein produced by exercising mice, they found it switched on genes that help preserve brain health and boost growth of new nerves in regions important for learning and memory.
Carlos Fosca's insight:

"..Endurance exercise has previously been shown to improve brain function, particularly in older people. But until this study the underlying molecular mechanisms were not understood..."
