Just Story It - Scoops

Just Story It - Scoops | Managing options | Scoop.it

Here are the best articles from across the web that I can find on using stories and storytelling in business.

I've chosen them because they actually make a contribution to our knowledge and wisdom about stories, show us how to apply stories to growing our businesses, or give valuable how-to tips.

I weed out all the junk. And besides, who needs another post in why storytelling is important?? Where's the beef?? We want the meat!

I've written reviews of each article to share what I like best, what you can get from reading the article, or what may be missing in the article.

How To Find A Topic: Click on the Filter tab above, and type in a keyword. All the articles with that keyword will appear.

I may occassionally review an article that I think is problematic as a way to educate us all, although most I will simply pass over.  If you wonder if I've seen an article that is not included here, send me a message and I'll respond.

After doing biz story work for over a decade (and with a PhD in Folklore) I hope you find many great insights and tips here. Many thanks for visiting and enjoy the articles!

And I hope you will also visit my website for more tips and tools, & take the free Story IQ assessment so you can see how well developed your storytelling skills and knowledge is: http://www.juststoryit.com/storyiq  ;

If You Don't Like Your Future, Rewrite Your Past -- Story Wisdom

If You Don't Like Your Future, Rewrite Your Past -- Story Wisdom | Managing options | Scoop.it

If you don't like how things are going, tell a different story. Sometimes strategic change just means taking something from the periphery — an anomaly, a demonstration, a small innovation — and redefining it as central.

Truer words could not be said!

When it comes to organizational storytelling, updating or rewriting a narrative is essential work sometimes. The stories we tell about ourselves and share -- whether as an enterprise, small biz, or nonprofit -- shape the results we experience.

Want different results? Then shift your stories. Rewrite them (don't fabricate -- still be authentic) to emphasize different qualities. Or find new/different stories to tell altogether.

This is particularly important when, as the author Rosabeth Moss Kanter says, the current narratives inhibit rather than inspire.

This is a quick article with really good examples and important insights that I know you will enjoy.

So that leaves the following question on the table -- What biz stories do you carry that need to be rewritten?

Not Just for Bedtime, Marketers Corner the Market on Storytelling - Forbes

Not Just for Bedtime, Marketers Corner the Market on Storytelling - Forbes | Managing options | Scoop.it
While technology continues to drive emerging forms of communications, it's ironic that the hottest trend in marketing today just might be the ancient art of storytelling. And that doesn't mean that all the stories being told are any good.

LOL -- I don't know if marketers have cornered the market on storytelling but there sure is a revolution going on in their world as they continue to leverage the power of storytelling.

Here's what I like about this article -- it's emphasis on crafting really great stories. And it is rare to find such candid remarks about this. But this author calls a spade a spade. Yes!

The author, Phil Johnson drives this point home and shares his experiences at recent conferences with bad storytelling.

He then gives marketers 3 tips for how to do it right.

Enjoy this quick read and keep crafting great stories!
