IS STRESS EDIBLE?

IS STRESS EDIBLE? | Managing a Stressful life | Scoop.it

EDIBLE SILICON VALLEY

The connection between food and stress may be stronger than you think.

The diseases most commonly attributed to food—heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, depression, inflammation and obesity start the list—are without exception stress-related diseases. “Stress eating” is commonly understood to mean “eating during times of emotional stress.” But what if the food we eat contains a chemical echo of the stressful experience it recently suffered? In that case, we might be putting stress on a plate and calling it lunch.

Food writers and activists such as Michael Pollan, Alice Waters and others have drawn attention to the many harmful aspects of modern food production. Industrial cultivation and distribution put extreme stress on plants and animals that we eat. It seems that the stresses placed on food ingredients are coming back to us full circle in a perverse rendition of “you are what you eat.”... http://ediblesiliconvalley.com/2013-articles/is-stress-edible/

SOARING BEE DEATHS IN 2012 SOUND ALARM ON PESTICIDES

A mysterious malady that has been killing honeybees en masse for several years appears to have expanded drastically in the last year, wiping out 40 percent or even 50 percent of the hives needed to pollinate many of the nation’s fruits and vegetables.

A conclusive explanation so far has escaped scientists studying the ailment, colony collapse disorder, since it first surfaced around 2005. But beekeepers and some researchers say there is growing evidence that a powerful new class of pesticides known as neonicotinoids, incorporated into the plants themselves, could be an important factor.

The European Union has proposed to ban the use of neonicotinoids on crops frequented by bees. Some researchers have concluded that neonicotinoids caused extensive die-offs in Germany and France.

The Agriculture Department says a quarter of the American diet, from apples to cherries to watermelons to onions, depends on pollination by honeybees.... http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/29/science/earth/soaring-bee-deaths-in-2012-sound-alarm-on-malady.html?pagewanted=all&_r=1&;

Andrew S's insight:

My Thoughts:

Stress can come in many shapes or forms. It effects ones work and family life to a point where it can corrupt the mind into believing that it is worthless and therefore lead to depression. Being on the police force is one of the top 10 most stressful jobs because of the things that they see every day. PTSD is the main stresser along with heavy workload and low pay. These stresser are leading to our police for to be at a higher risk for heart attack and poorer performance on the job.

And yet, no matter how hard we try to avoid stress, it rears its ugly head time and time again.
Andrew S's insight:

My Thoughts:

By living a stressful life you can miss out on the important things. By taking a few minutes each day to become one with nature you can eliminate stress and continue to enjoy the life you where given. This makes sense becuase when we all where children we didnt have a care in the world. ALthough you may argue that it is because we didnt understand life i beg to differ. Children enjoyed each day at a time enjoying the great out doors and taking life for what it is. By doing this as an adult life will become better and more stress free.
