Better Human Understanding, Not Big Data, Is the Future of Business

Better Human Understanding, Not Big Data, Is the Future of Business | Complex systems and projects | Scoop.it
"The idea that business is strictly a numbers affair has always struck me as preposterous. For one thing, I’ve never been particularly good at numbers, but I think I’ve done a reasonable job with feelings.

"The solution isn't in the data. The data is merely a sensor. A sensor that only works if it’s pointed in the right direction."

Introduction au leadership tribal

Introduction au leadership tribal | Complex systems and projects | Scoop.it

Introduction au leadership tribal
Christine Aizpurua's curator insight, October 29, 2013 8:18 PM

Stigmergy

Stigmergy | Complex systems and projects | Scoop.it
Kind people have stigmergically translated this article into German and French. This article is part of a series: ‘Governance and other systems of mass collaboration’. Stigmergy is a me...
Philippe Vallat's insight:

Stigmergy is a mechanism of indirect coordination between agents or actions. The principle is that the trace left in the environment by an action stimulates the performance of a next action, by the same or a different agent. In that way, subsequent actions tend to reinforce and build on each other, leading to the spontaneous emergence of coherent, apparently systematic activity. Stigmergy is a form of self-organization. It produces complex, seemingly intelligent structures, without need for any planning, control, or even direct communication between the agents.

Great post, have you tried combining this with what Holacracy has to offer as a governance tool with distributed power? Seems there are synergies.
Pierre Johnson's comment, January 21, 2013 5:15 AM
I have thought of it, and will investigate it. FYI, I have found that Stigmergy my be a synonym of Distributed Intelligence. Who would agree on this?

Our tools for identifying cause-and-effect in the world are matched by a particular view of how causality works. Ideas from complexity theory are forcing us to update our views on causality, so our tools must be updated as well.

"La bienveillance est superproductive"

"La bienveillance est superproductive" | Complex systems and projects | Scoop.it

Complexity Science in Human Terms: A Relational Model of Business

At the cusp of the twenty-first century, we are experiencing unprecedented structural shifts in our economy brought about by the revolutions in computation and communication technologies. Today the world is linked in ways unimaginable just a decade ago. A new kind of economy is emerging–the connected economy--a shift that rivals the onset of the Industrial Revolution in its impact on society and the way commerce is transacted.
