When all is said and done, businesses generally end up with the employees they deserve, and if your employees are helpless in your eyes, then there is a far chance that you may have caused them to be so inclined.


 


If you need your employees to have a can do attitude, and who are prepared to tackle any problem or overcome any challenge, then you need to create the environment in which such employees thrive.


 


This good article, suggests that the leader of a workplace needs to make a difference, and a supportive environment needs to be created, if learned helplessness is to be overcome.

L’événement a fait salle plus que comble, et a été l’occasion de présentations faites par des intervenants de Google :

L’un des concepts les plus importants, mais également les moins bien compris, du management est le concept d’incertitude. L’incertitude est souvent confondue avec le risque, or les deux n’ont rien à voir.

... l’incertitude signifie également, et peut-être surtout, que l’avenir n’est pas déjà écrit. Il peut être déterminé en grande partie par ce qui s’est déjà passé, mais jamais entièrement. Au contraire, il résulte du jeu des acteurs. Poussant plus loin le raisonnement, l’incertitude est la matière première de l’entrepreneuriat.

I warned against the blind use of formulas in setting safety stock levels. Since then, it has been the single most popular post in this blog, and commands as many page views today as when it first came out. Among the many comments, I noticed that several readers, when looking at the formula, were disturbed that three of the four parameters under the radical are squared and the other one isn’t, to the point that they assume it to be a mistake....


 


A side effect of working out the math behind a formula is that it makes you think harder about the assumptions behind it, and therefore its range of applicability.
