In a world run by Internet connectivity for all aspects of life, from efficient work operations and management to social networking connections, it is no surprise that information is the foundation of our collective future. That being said, here are some quirky facts about technology that you may find surprising.

1. On eBay, there is an average of $680 worth of transactions every second.

2. Ninety-one percent of all adults have their mobile phone within arm’s reach every hour of every day.

3. There are 6.8 billion people on the planet and 4 billion of them use a mobile phone. Only 3.5 billion of them use a toothbrush.

Video Content Marketing: 4 Tips to Enhance Production Value

Video Content Marketing: 4 Tips to Enhance Production Value | Manage My Dream - IT Services | Software Solutions | Business Consulting | Scoop.it

Content marketing, as defined by Joe Pulizzi, lead strategist at the Content Marketing Institute, is the “practice of creating relevant and compelling content in a consistent fashion to a targeted buyer, focusing on all stages of the buying process, from brand awareness through to brand evangelism”. It doesn’t focus on “selling” per se, but rather communicating, educating, and evoking emotion from your audience of customers or potential customers via mediums such as print, web, audio, and video.

Being the video nerd that I am, I’ll focus on video because of a number of unique traits that it possesses over other forms:

Google Glass app offers new level of security for ATM users | Manage My Dream - IT Services | Software Solutions | Business Consulting | Scoop.it

A futuristic app uses Google Glass to add an extra layer of privacy for users withdrawing cash from ATM machines – by displaying a one-time personal identification number (PIN) which only the Glass user can see. Even attackers armed with Google Glass can’t decode the PIN – and watching users enter a PIN is useless, as it changes each time.

"DARPA doesn’t just want machines to get smarter; it wants them to work better, together. We’re talking about drones, which have already changed how the U.S. wages war. But the potential of drones is far from untapped and this year’s DARPA budget is brimming with research for new ways to leverage advances in robotics. The $5 million “Swarm Challenge” looks to see if a flock of small drones can all play well together. It involves the development of algorithms that would allow a number of small unmanned systems to work in unison and solve problems. Darpa envisions the drone hive-mind could be useful supporting troops in air, ground and maritime operations and could even help out in obstacle-clearing and search and rescue operations."

Switchads is an automatic auction ad platform that allows you to have multiple ad networks compete for your the minimum CPM price that you set.

For example if you are running Google ads on your site you can activate SwitchAds easily and your Google ads will be replaced with alternative and higher paying ones, only if there are advertisers meeting your minimum set CPM.

In their words: "Using SwitchAds unique technology, we provide your website with access to increased advertiser budgets by getting them to bid on your inventory in an auction. This increases the competition and price for the advertising on your website."

In this way your risk is zero and you can only possibly gain some extra revenues.

Switchads makes money by adding his small commission on top of your minimum set CPM revenue.

You can check stats and revenues in real time.

N.B.: I am currently testing Switchads on the top banner space of MasterNewMedia but I have too little data to yet express an evaluation.

The only drawback I encountered has been setting my minimum CPM in British pounds.

Free to use.

The Complete Guide To Visual Content For The Fortune 500 | Manage My Dream - IT Services | Software Solutions | Business Consulting | Scoop.it
The Web might not have been around for too long but it already has a clear direction: away from text and towards images. The first blog platforms invited users to write posts of 1,000 words or longer. Facebook’s smaller text field told people to talk less and update more. Twitter cut things down to 140 characters and the rise of Instagram and Pinterest have made clear that people want to stop typing altogether. They want to show not tell, look not read.

Einstein's conversion from a belief in a static to an expanding universe

Einstein's conversion from a belief in a static to an expanding universe | Manage My Dream - IT Services | Software Solutions | Business Consulting | Scoop.it
Albert Einstein accepted the modern cosmological view that the universe is expanding long after many of his contemporaries. Until 1931, physicist Albert Einstein believed that the universe was static. An urban legend attributes this change of perspective to when American astronomer Edwin Hubble showed Einstein his observations of redshift in the light emitted by far away nebulae -- today known as galaxies. But the reality is more complex. The change in Einstein’s viewpoint, in fact, resulted from a tortuous thought process. Now researchers explain how Einstein changed his mind following many encounters with some of the most influential astrophysicists of his generation.

Business Models for Journalism: Where The Real Opportunities Are | Manage My Dream - IT Services | Software Solutions | Business Consulting | Scoop.it

Via Robin Good

Robin Good's curator insight, February 9, 2014 5:46 AM

Vincenzo Marino does an excellent reporting job on the International Journalism Festival news site, by summarising and distilling the good stuff emerging from an interesting and sustained debate on Twitter (Business Models for Journalism - Storify) on the state of online journalism and its potential future business models, initially kicked off by entrepreneur and Netscape co-founder Marc Andreessen.

Among the highlights, what Andreessen calls “the most obvious eight business models” for now and the future:

1. Quality journalism for high-quality ads

2.
Succeeding in making readers subscribe and pay for value products

3. Premium content worth buying

4. Relying on live conferences and events

5. Investing across multiple channels

6. Crowdfunding ("Gigantic opportunity especially for investigative journalism")

7. Offering the option to pay in Bitcoin for micropayments

8. Keeping an eye on philanthropy (like ProPublica and Pierre Omidyar's First Look Media)

One stratospherically important point to take home from this valuable roundup is the following:

"The role played by quality, however, is crucial especially when analyzed in the light of the tendency of the market to expand, creating less accurate content.

The challenge is to make a product (or brand) a point of reference, a lighthouse in the night of uncontrolled content and viral hoaxes."

Informative. Resourceful. Insightful. 8/10

Debra Walker's curator insight, March 6, 2014 4:23 PM

I recently read an article that was describing corporate culture as lunch provided everyday & free beer on Friday.  If you take away those superficial connections for an employee - which are merely non cash components of a compensation plan and not a long term contributor to organizational culture - an engaged employee will remain committed to excelling in their role and for the organization.

An unengaged employee will be more impacted by that removal, resulting in connecting with that employee becoming even harder to achieve.

Engagement is multi-layered and more complex than being provided a sandwich so that I can continue to work through what should be a period of refreshment called lunchtime.
