Putrajaya Slowly Winning Over Urban Youth On GST, Survey Shows malaysiandigest.com In total, the study surveyed 120,512 social media updates containing the word “GST” originating in Malaysia, between October 16, 2013 to April 10, 2014.
David Collet's insight:
GST is a good idea for all. It becomes a situation where the consumer pays the most taxes for goods. And the biggest consumers are the wealthy consumers. Therefore, the consumption of high end products which cost the most money will attrack the greatest taxes.
The segment of the consumer population who do not have as many resources to buy, will buy the essentials only and this sector can be protected from the effects of the GST.
It is only necessary for the Government to implement it correctly such that areas such as raw food (groceries) supplies, educational material (books, pencils), medical requirements (essentials), transportation (public transportation, commonly used petrol), communications (essential basic phone and internet communications), low cost vehicles (say those 1.5l or below) plus I am sure there are a few more that meet the criteria, and these must be shielded from the effect of the GST. And consumer protection must be enhanced to allow an unbiased prosecution of unscrupulous vendors.

The founding principle for thisnew form of government which emerged in the 18th century, was that the Common Man was the ultimate source of power. Citizen legislators would enact the laws and shape the nation’s destiny. But instead, our republic is now strong-armed by professional politicians. The two dominant concerns of these careerists are to STAY in power and to do the bidding of those who ENABLE them to stay in power. Anyone who doubts this statement might try explaining why campaign finance reform and term limits are perennially “off the table.” Actually, that is an understatement - they aren’t even in the building.
It is bad enough that the President, Congress and the Courts serve the interests of a minority that is so tiny that it is almost microscopic. What is even worse, is WHO that elite constituency is. It is exclusively THE BIGS: Big banks, Big corporations, Big agriculture, Big energy, Big pharmaceuticals, Big health care, Bighigh tech and the BIGGEST of them all - the military-industrial complex.

David Collet's insight:
This has always been an issue. Educational Institutions are either trying to meet a national agenda unrelated to the changing world, or are focusing their efforts on skills that are currently in demand with no thought to the inevitable changes in the skills demanded by the work force by the time the graduates enter the work market.
