#HR #RRHH How To Turn Your Career Envy Into #Motivation | Making #love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

Here are fives ways these experts suggest reshaping your career envy into something good.

1. Never Assume Luck

Everyone’s acting as their own best public relations specialist. Just because their star seems to rise effortlessly, doesn’t mean their path was devoid of sacrifices.

Reaching out to someone you admire--and yes, envy a little--is empowering and enlightening for both sides (and chances are, they never saw themselves as someone to envy!). Find out their process, and what unique challenges they had to face on their way to where they are. They likely made their own luck, or had a mentor that changed everything.

2. Ask Yourself Why You’re Envious

(From the article): A leader’s daily struggle is to remain focused on our most important things. The challenge is just how do you stay focused on what’s important? Like many of us Benjamin Franklin found it difficult to stay focused. Especially when we’re bombarded every day with an overwhelming number of distracting tasks, external pressures and conflicting priorities.

Jack Kornfield

The Psychology of Getting Unstuck: How to Overcome the “OK Plateau” of Performance & Personal Growth | Making #love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it
Something experts in all fields tend to do when they’re practicing is to operate outside of their comfort zone and study themselves failing. The best figure skaters in the world spend more of their practice time practicing jumps that they don’t land than lesser figure skaters do. The same is true of musicians. When most musicians sit down to practice, they play the parts of pieces that they’re good at. Of course they do: it’s fun to succeed. But expert musicians tend to focus on the parts that are hard, the parts they haven’t yet mastered. The way to get better at a skill is to force yourself to practice just beyond your limits.

5 Things You Can Do To Improve Your Relationship With Your Boss (And Your Next Boss)

5 Things You Can Do To Improve Your Relationship With Your Boss (And Your Next Boss) | Making #love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

“The most important driver of employee engagement is the relationship they have with their immediate manager,” says Piera Palazzolo, Senior Vice President of Dale Carnegie Training. She says the most successful relationships are those where bosses and employees really get to know one another.

“That’s different from years ago, when you were supposed to ask any personal questions. Those lines are blurred now, people want you to care about them, particularly if there’s something going on in their lives that might affect their performance.”

1) Find out exactly what your boss wants, and understand the pressure they’re working under.

"We also know that people who think about their own learning, make a habit of asking questions, use what they’ve learned, teach what they’ve learned to others, and enjoy the learning process on an intrinsic level all become better learners.

"The good news is, these are all strategies and habits that can be adopted through practice. Why some of us master them earlier than others is another topic, one that may have something to do with parenting, environment, and even genetics. But the point is, we’re all capable. The smartest, most successful people in the world wouldn’t be where they are today if they weren’t skilled learners. So let’s examine which strategies we should be perfecting and how they can serve us in the long run."

A very useful article that recognises that there is a skill (or at least a process) involved to achieve effective learning, and that we can learn this skill, i.e. learn to learn. As the article explains: "The smartest, most successful people in the world wouldn’t be where they are today if they weren’t skilled learners" It goes on to examine which learning strategies we should be perfecting and how they can serve us in the long run.
