Is Your Content Marketing Profitable? Here Are 22 Metrics That Will Tell You

Is Your Content Marketing Profitable? Here Are 22 Metrics That Will Tell You | Maketing digital | Scoop.it

'One small problem with metrics: Although metrics are important, they do have limitations.

It’s not always possible to find a metric that completely represents your goal.

Additionally, you might have multiple goals, and one metric will never tell you how you’re doing across all of them at once.

The simple solution is to track multiple metrics.

By combining several important KPIs, you can get an overall picture of your progress.

If you’re investing in content marketing, you’ll care not only about increasing page views but also making sure that those page views are resulting in engagement, growth, and profit.

Everyone has slightly different goals even if they’re similar.

Which is why I’m going to go through the 23 best content marketing metrics to track.

I’ll explain when you should and should not track each of them so that you can find a combination that works for you':

How to Tell a Great Story

How to Tell a Great Story | Maketing digital | Scoop.it
It’s a skill every leader needs to master.

"We tell stories to our coworkers and peers all the time — to persuade someone to support our project, to explain to an employee how he might improve, or to inspire a team that is facing challenges. It’s an essential skill, but what makes a compelling story in a business context? And how can you improve your ability to tell stories that persuade?"

It all started in late 60s with zip codes;

- then demographic data were added;

- which were complemented with Lifestyle data;

- whose power was optimized with Attitudinal data;

- and today Behavioural data (or social) has brought data to an entire new level (see the four V of Big Data).

However, the challenge remains. In fact, it gets harder and harder: how to use the data to make reliable predictions?

6 Inbound Marketing Techniques Every Business Should Use

6 Inbound Marketing Techniques Every Business Should Use | Maketing digital | Scoop.it
Every business needs to do some kind of marketing. But what kind of marketing is the most effective? Most of the conventional marketing approaches are too expensive or unwieldy for smaller businesses and startups to successfully employ. That’s why inbound marketing, and its various techniques, make sense for any business — but especially for startups and smaller businesses.

Inbound marketing is more of an approach than it is a list of tactics. Inbound marketing, at its core, is about attracting prospects to your business rather than going out to find those prospects. Traditional marketing relied on email lists, cold-calling, billboard advertisements, and direct mail.

Modern inbound marketing uses organic search traffic, opt-in email forms, and content publication to attract customers. Inbound marketing is the best approach for today’s businesses, whether B2B, B2C, e-commerce, SaaS, tech, non-tech, brick-and-mortar or otherwise.

Terry Elliott's curator insight, August 16, 2014 7:26 AM

The image above amounts to a template for curating a digital space:

1. Find something timeless to curate.

2. Fit it into a pattern that makes sense.

3. Find a larger context for why this matters.

4. Share widely.

I think this fits into Harold Jarche’s simpler seek-sense-share framework.

Why does this matter?  If curation is all that Tufte and Bhatt say it is, then why aren’t scaffolds like these being used more often for training and in learning systems?  I am using the curation tool Scoop.it to do curation with my freshman comp students.  They use Scoop.it as their introductory platform  for beginning to acquire the skills  Tufte enumerates above that are part of the academic and business spaces they will eventually live in.  I am hoping they will demonstrate why it curation matters as they seek-sense-share their way to long and short form ‘texts’ that they will be writing all semester. That will include essays, tweets, G+ community posts, blog posts, research papers, emails, plusses, favs, instagrams, zeegas, slideshares, pictures, and a massive mobile presence from their own digital spaces.  Wish me luck.

3 TED Talks That Uncover the Secrets of Storytelling

3 TED Talks That Uncover the Secrets of Storytelling | Maketing digital | Scoop.it

"When I decided to write an article on brand storytelling inspired by TED talks, I went about it all wrong.

Scouring YouTube for tactics, elements, and components of brand storytelling, I was aiming to find five or ten (or 17) actionable tips that you can use to tell you brand’s story.

I was already boring myself to death and I hadn’t even begun to write.

We have all heard (ad nauseam) about the “power of brand storytelling,” and I know that I have read more than one blog that spits off a numeric list of tips that I just “can’t live without” as a content marketer.

I began to get curious about what pulls me, personally, into a story. What is it that moves me so much that I become an advocate of the brand/person/cause that is being talked about in the story? What is that secret sauce in brand storytelling that activates the magic button inside each of us, firing up our passion?"

Very good POV on story and some interesting TED Talks - especially Nancy Duarte. Worth your time!

Karen Dietz's curator insight, July 23, 2014 6:37 PM

Fellow curator Gregg Morris discovered this gem for his Story and Narrative curation and I thought you should know about it too.

3 TED talks are featured here and they are all worth watching. The first one from Andrew Stanton on the Clues To A Great Story I've curated before. It's a keeper.

The second one from JJ Abrams is new for me -- and I love it. It's all about adding mystery into the storytelling toolbox. As the author of this post Julie Newmark says, "For example, creating puzzles to solve, challenges and even small adventures within your brand stories, you are involving customers and inspiring them to use their minds together as they seek to discover more. Engagement and connection to your brand is the point here and using mystery creates the potential for taking it all to a deeper level." Right on!!

And the third video from Nancy Duarte focuses on one of the most powerful dynamics for moving people to action -- before and after pictures.

Have fun with these and incorporate these lessons into your business storytelling.

A.K.Andrew's curator insight, July 27, 2014 12:02 PM

Stories need to be captivating from the beginning or you'll bore the pants of your audience, whether it's fiction or brand storytelling.
