Drunk Phillips faces sanction

Drunk Phillips faces sanction | Mainstream Sports | Scoop.it
Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips faces a heavy punishment from his Top 14 side Bayonne after turning up at training drunk.
Chevawn's Tut Group's insight:

is there a danger in having drunken players in a squad or is it just somthing that should always just left to pass by and bench the players for 3 games only? does the benching of the players really take their hearts out of drinking or does it just let them feel miserable for that time being and there after they may continue as they please until the next time they get caught.

Cricket South Africa Suspends CEO Lorgat Pending Probe

Cricket South Africa Suspends CEO Lorgat Pending Probe | Mainstream Sports | Scoop.it
Cricket South Africa Chief Executive Officer Haroon Lorgat won’t represent the organization at international level pending an independent investigation into his conduct, the governing body said.
Chevawn's Tut Group's insight:

This article is about the South African Cricket CEO who got suspended. He has been withdrawn  from representing it at the ICC’s Chief Executive Committee or from acting in any other ICC-related matters.

The probe into his conduct will center on his role in the release of comments about the ICC board by David Becker, a former legal adviser to CSA. Becker’s statement linked BCCI president Narayanaswami Srinivasan to certain unethical conduct.

India's tour to South Africa hits another roadblock: Sources

India's tour to South Africa hits another roadblock: Sources | Mainstream Sports | Scoop.it
India's tour to South Africa has run into fresh trouble and indications are that there could be a massive upheaval if the tour finally has to go ahead.
Chevawn's Tut Group's insight:

The article highlights the mishaps that India is having with regard to their tour to South Africa. It is said that if the tour takes place, there could be an upheaval.

The Cricket tour has been derailed because of the CSA legal advisor David Becker who allegedly "attacked" chief Srinivasan but said to be unprovoked. CSA Chief Executive Lorgat also played a role in the outburst. However a meeting has been scheduled by the South African board to fix the issue. The tour will soon be approved.

To what extent can we say that sports officials from different nations are united and have a common goal or common interests when it comes to tours?

Atletics SA can't pay athletes or staff salaries - Sport LIVE

Atletics SA can't pay athletes or staff salaries - Sport LIVE | Mainstream Sports | Scoop.it
ATHLETICS SA (ASA) is in dire financial trouble again after the federation's bank account was attached by attorneys who are demanding R1.5-million in outstanding fees.
Chevawn's Tut Group's insight:

Another example of how Athletics SA (ASA) is in serious financial trouble. Staff have not been paid this month and Athletes might not receive their daily allowances. It seems that this is partly the result of bad relations between board members and president James Evans which has led to bad decision-making and a lack of cohesiveness. Apparently, the board's bank account was "attached" on Friday and some board members refused to sign a document to appoint a lawyer to fight the action. This has delayed the process.

ASA now only has R1.1-million in its account and it, as well as its athletes, are in a fix.

Good and bad news for Bafana - City Press

Good and bad news for Bafana - City Press | Mainstream Sports | Scoop.it
The South African Football Association (Safa) experienced mixed fortunes this morning.
Chevawn's Tut Group's insight:

Great article announcing the South African Soccer Team, Bafana Bafana, has moved seven spots up the FIFA world rank to the 61st spot! Not only does the article update the reader on the "good" news for Bafana Bafana, it continues to report on two sponsors (Puma and ABSA) which have pulled out of the South African Football Association (SAFA) and resultantly depriving Bafana Bafana of their sponsorship. This article is brief and can be read by anyone as a reality check of how far the South African team needs to go before reaping the awards of its improvements.

Armstrong... again.

This article is yet another admission of somebody who saw ex-cycling hero doping. This time it's ex-girlfriend Sheryl Crow.

Part of me thinks that these people are slowly admitting to witnessing him dope because it draws a victimized light on themselves, and not because it's the right thing to do. Armstrong's life will never be as dignified as it once was.

The article deals with human interest, doping, and the lifestyles of sportsmen.

Proteas take control on opening day of second test - City Press

Proteas take control on opening day of second test - City Press | Mainstream Sports | Scoop.it
Leg spinner Imran Tahir came to haunt the country of his birth, Pakistan, by claiming a maiden five-wicket haul to give South Africa early control of the must-win second test.
Chevawn's Tut Group's insight:

This article is a good article in its conveyance of the outcome of the Proteas and the victory they achieved in their test match with Pakistan. It also gives a good rounded background of each of the cricket players. This background is helpful in understanding the athletes who in this case are cricket players holistically and not only for their performance on the cricket pitch. This article is also helpful and insightful in the way in which it stipulates the historic record of any wins and losses of each player before stipulating their current performance in the test match. This gives the article a better angle and a more distinct description of a test match as opposed to other articles which base the articles on writing on the match in that moment in time without acknowledging anything else prior to the period of the match. It will be highly insightful for all the cricket fans for both the Proteas and the Pakistan cricket team to not only be informed about the current events of the test match but the events that led up to the test match.

Can Safa survive latest crisis? - City Press

Can Safa survive latest crisis? - City Press | Mainstream Sports | Scoop.it
Just 22 days into office, the newly elected SA Football Association (Safa) national executive committee (NEC) is in crisis.
Chevawn's Tut Group's insight:

This article is based on a series of mishaps which have invaded the South African Football Association. Following the loss of two sponsors, ABSA and Puma, the vice president of the association was dismissed too. This article is insightful because it reveals the logical sequence of events that led to the termination of ABSA's and Puma's sponsorship, the main cause being Bafana Bafana with its continuous losses and disappointments. This article adds a dull and more sombre aspect to the awaited transformation of SAFA. This article would be an insightful read for any sports fans to acknowledge the downfalls of the country's football association and to perhaps offer solutions to the downfall. This article would also be insightful for potential sponsors to acquire a wide range of information about the need for funds in the SAFA. The article also reveals the decrease of funding from South African Breweries. This article has a good and concise layout and it additionally has the official letter of the suspension of the vice president, Mwelo Nonkonyana, which adds to the formality of the article.

Safa ref granted bail - Soccer | IOL.co.za

Safa ref granted bail - Soccer | IOL.co.za | Mainstream Sports | Scoop.it
IOL Sport: South Africa's Premier Online Sports News Source with In-depth coverage of local and international Sport Results, with latest rugby, soccer, cricket, tennis, golf, motorsport news, fixtures, logs and sporting events.
Chevawn's Tut Group's insight:

The referee Clifford Malgas of the South African Football Association was accused of match-fixing but has been granted bail. However on 31 October, he will face charges of perjury and corruption. The referee fixed soccer games in the Vodacom Tournament in June 2011.

The referee hired  a privately funded attorney who was delayed in his arrival and was warned by the magistrate to have his attorney present by the time Malgas has to appear in court.

Malgas testified against Assistant coach Phil Setshedi who was jailed for 8 years for bribing a police offical and posing as the chief referee to manipulate the result of soccer matches. It turns out that Malgas lied in the oath. Malgas has been suspended from soccer.

Match-fixing has been a problem for years, however, no measures have been taken to eradicate this phenomenon. Are there organisations against match-fixing is the question. How can match-fixing be prevented? One could argue that you cannot really monitor this but there is room for enforcement. There should also be harsher consequences so that match-fixing is not tolerated at all.

Lambie to slaughter WP?

Lambie to slaughter WP? | Mainstream Sports | Scoop.it
Robbie Fleck says he had flashbacks to the 2010 Currie Cup final, seeing Patrick Lambie’s performance against the Cheetahs.
Chevawn's Tut Group's insight:

The young rugby star Patrick Lambie has proven to be a great asset to the Sharks according to coach Robbie Fleck. The coach looks back on his perfomance in rugby all the way back to 2010. Fleck recalls two penalties that Lambie missed and which put the Sharks at stake  but ironically Lambie was the reason the Sharks won in the end. All in all, it is good that this young talent from Michaelhouse continues to be recognised and applauded for his talent.

The Soweto Marathon has been cancelled after efforts to save it failed.
Chevawn's Tut Group's insight:

The Soweto Marathon has been cancelled this year due to a lack of funding from Athletics SA's broadcast deal with SABC. The committee has raised 80% of the nessesary funds but they are still R1-million short.

It seems like South African Athletics is facing serious financial issues at the moment. Of course there are more pressing financial matters that need to be dealt with in this country, but I can't help but wonder how South African sports suffer with finances so much in a country where sports is so hugely supported.

Overpaid! - Why Black Stars shouldn't earn much more than they deserve

Overpaid! - Why Black Stars shouldn't earn much more than they deserve | Mainstream Sports | Scoop.it
Current members of the Ghana senior team are set to earn in the realms of the absurd should they beat Egypt on Tuesday. Goal laments the probability
Chevawn's Tut Group's insight:

The Ghanain football tema has been promised a 50% raise in income, if they win the world cup qualifying play-off against Egypt tomorrow. This is causing outrage in the country, as there's barely enough money to feed everybody to begin with, where the government is getting money to sponsor a sporting event to such an extent and have no money to improve poverty is questionnable.

The article is very interesting as it shows the social link between soccer and society.

The money trail is the big question here, and the soccer will not be as fully supported as it usually is in the country because of it.

I found this article interesting because it shows how much more countries care about their international status in sport and otherwise, that actually taking care of their country.

We'll see what happens tomorrow in the soccer match. I'm pretty keen to do an update scoop on this.
