Description

This year, and for the first time, the SLACTIONS Steering Committee included a day devoted to Machinima in the conference program. The SLACTIONS 2012 Machinima Festival is a Machinima competition included on the SLACTIONS 2012 Research conference on virtual worlds. The RL/SL conference will happen between 15 November 2012 and 17 November 2012. The SLACTIONS 2012 Machinima Festival and awards ceremony will be on 15 November 2012. The SLACTIONS 2012 Machinima Festival agree, approve and promote the free use of imagination. According to SLACTIONS 2012, the Machinima Festival will have a follow-up support and appreciation of work done this year as well as the Vintage category (classics from previous years).

Imagination as a concept is a well-known phenomenon whereby a person creates something new under some conditions, and can be associated with creativity. For many, it is intertwined with passion and commitment. The metaverse and machinima are innovations, but what about creativity? It lives inside you.

Imagine an Universe where everyone can make choices, live one's dream and share one's passion. For innovation to flourish, the SLACTIONS 2012 Machinima Festival created an environment for fostering creativity; bringing together multi-talented groups of people who work together in close collaboration - exchanging knowledge and ideas, and shaping the path towards the future with their present and past accomplishments and works.

By deciding to submit one's works, the path leads to this moment of the battle between a multitude of creators and the chance to share that experience with them. Hundreds of thousands of people can watch it. Why so many? Because it all happens in one universe, where what matters most is the emergent and evolving experience. Because in the Universe all artistry matters and imagination and creativity have an important impact.

Imagine being in the right place at the right time and being able to touch the lives of thousands of people, around the world.

Welcome to SLACTIONS 2012. The imagination is yours.

http://www.slactions.org/2012/?page_id=2
"The metaverse is emerging, through the increasing use of virtual world technologies that act as platforms for end-users to create, develop, and interact, expanding the realm of human cooperation, interaction, and creativity. The conference focus is scientific research on applications and developments of these metaverse platforms: Habbo Hotel, IMVU, Second Life, OpenSimulator, Open Croquet, Activeworlds, Project Wonderland, and others, including MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft, and virtual worlds based on social networks, such as *-ville and others, providing a forum for the research community to present and discuss innovative approaches, techniques, processes, and research results."

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's insight:

Google launched a new layout for its social networking service Google+ recently that introduced several interesting features but also a Pinterest-like layout that I think does not really work well when the emphasize is on text and not images. Here is how to costumize it -

Scientists Create Single Pixel Camera For 3D Images http://t.co/juI7Jf6zvz
Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's insight:

Very interesting news.

Lead author on the paper Baoqing Sun said: “It might seem a bit counter-intuitive to think that more information can be captured from a detector which uses just a single pixel rather than the multi-megapixel detectors found in conventional digital cameras.

However, digital camera sensors have a very limited sensitivity beyond the spectrum of visible light, whereas a single-pixel detector can easily be made to capture information far beyond the visible, reaching wavelengths from X-ray to TeraHertz.

How Much Would It Cost to Build the Starship Enterprise?

How Much Would It Cost to Build the Starship Enterprise? | Machinimania | Scoop.it
So you want to build the Enterprise. Don't we all! Well good news: according to some quick, messy, napkin math, it's possible. Kind of. The bad news? It's going to be stupid expensive. But not unfathomably so!
Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's insight:

"Since we can't predict the future, or even come close to gauging the cost of development for revolutionary new inventions or substances like warp and impulse drives, shields, and teleporters, we're going to stick to what we know. It might not make us a real Enterprise, but it's about as close as you're going to get."

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's insight:

The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Beautiful Futuristic Body Paintings

Beautiful Futuristic Body Paintings | Machinimania | Scoop.it

Imagine sitting still for 16-20 hours while your body is the canvas for an airbrush masterpiece. Michael Rosner is an American artist with an incredible vision who uses his airbrush to transform organic materials, including humans, into brilliant works of art. Using principles of architecture and geometry to create magnificent patterns, Rosner’s subjects are metamorphosed into strikingly beautiful trans-human entities.

Via Annie Brightstar
Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's insight:

A Chicago native, Rosner has been working as a painter, sculptor, and carpenter since 1996, when he relocated to Sacramento, after attending Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. He discovered his passion for painting the human form in 2006 and has been doing it with the assistance of his talented team of artists at Eye Level Studio in Sacramento, which he founded.

Details make art, my old art teacher used to proclaim, and the period details here are to die for: Freighters and tugboats crisscross the twinkling nighttime harbor. The school paper is laboriously hand-lettered and inked on an old stencil-mimeo process. The fresh fish and cooking oil sizzle sumptuously in Umi's skillet. Every frame is visually evocative.

Free 3D Posing, Modeling and animation software
Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's insight:

Why pay hundreds of dollars to get started designing stunning 3D images and animations when you can get started today for free with DAZ Studio?

When we say "3D", we don't mean special glasses or pictures that you have to look at cross-eyed to see the "hidden message".  What we “do” mean is the ability to take people, buildings and models and move them around in a virtual environment as easily as if you were holding them in your hands.

The DAZ Studio software lets you choose from thousands of  3D people, creatures, buildings and props to place into your scene or “photo shoot”.  Then dress them, pose them, and give them expressions.
