How To Capture Ideas at Presentations and Events by Doing Visual Recording on the iPad

Robin Good: Rachel Smith explains in very simple words how you can use your iPad to capture and record visually the key ideas and concepts presented during a lecture, keynote, training class or presentation.

She provides a good round-up of four relevant tools that can be used for this task, analyzing their key pros and cons as well as providing logistic and technical advice on how to best organize and setup yourself for doing visual recording on the iPad.

As similar tools will provide more ready-made icons, templates and patterns available for this kind of real-time idea-capturing, this rare and pioneering visual recording work will begin to catch up even more rapidly.

Very useful. 8/10

The new features will begin rolling out July 8 with the ability for teachers to create and manage previously uploaded lessons directly from the iPad. Apple says the course creation features will let teachers grab content from iWork, iBooks Author or “any of the over 75,000 educational apps available for iPad.” It will also let teachers use the iPad’s camera to include shots and video of real-world items in courses. The course creation feature will be available to educators in all 69 with the materials they create distributed in up 155 countries.

The addition of discussions moves iTunesU from an elaborate textbook to something that involves collaboration - a good move. Pity it's only for private courses.

I couldn't agree more. As teachers, our role must change to one that enables, guides, personalises and embraces digital technology as a fundamental part of student learning. The most dangerous thing we can do to our students is to keep doing what our teachers and professors did to us:

ik vind dit een handige tool, omdat je niet zoveel hoeft in te stellen. Het werkt gewoon. Je iPad werkst als een soort server waarop je met een andere computer die op een beamer is aangesloten connect. Alles wat je schrijft op het 'whiteboard' van je iPad verschijnt op het bord. Je kunt ook schermen opslaan en een kopie maken.

Gewoon eens proberen!

While this article is from the UK, the trend for mobile computing in the classroom will spread globally, which only supports the need for companies to implement the means to distribute digital content electronically.

Audrey's curator insight, December 19, 2013 4:51 PM

It is already a reality in certain educational establishments, particularly those where there are 5 or less students in the class.  Education then becomes group facilitated learning.  For example, a student whose first language is Russian or Chinese, studying in the UK may not fully understand an English word.  They are able to type the word into their mobile device.   The result is an explanation of the word . They  share the meaning with the other students. The new word they discover has now expanded all students vocabulary.

Here is an example:  What is the meaning of infer?  The moble device may suggest conclude.  The teacher suggests deduce  and assume. Another student may suggest understand.

The result:   Students have increased their language, in about two minutes.
