5 Learning Apps that are changing the world | Aurion Learning

5 Learning Apps that are changing the world | Aurion Learning | M.E.learning | Scoop.it

The theme for the United Nation’s International Day for the Eradication of Poverty this year is to ‘think, decide and act together against extreme poverty’ so we’ve compiled a list of five learning apps that are working towards this purpose and making a positive impact on the world.

Mobile apps are increasingly popular because they allow learners to tap into on-demand, bite sized and just in time learning both wherever and whenever they want to.

The apps we want to highlight stick out because they deliver short, relevant pieces of information that either create awareness of the daily struggles faced by those in poverty or else provide users with the information they need to make informed decisions.

Targeting 6 Social Learning Needs in eLearning Environments

Targeting 6 Social Learning Needs in eLearning Environments | M.E.learning | Scoop.it

"When it comes to successful eLearning design, everybody should agree that there’s no such thing as too much information about how the human brain operates. It’s wired for social learning. Our respective environments actually shape our brains and the rest of our bodies."

Beth Dichter's insight:

SH!FT has published a new post that looks at how one can meet social learning needs in an online environment. The post includes a link to a short video (~3 minutes) that looks at "the application of neuroscience to organizational development."

The six areas are also found in a face2face environment (although there may be students whom do not experience all of them).

To create a more effective eLearning course consider these areas as you design it:

1. Belonging to a group

2. Ability to express

3. Ability to compete

4. Ability to support and be supported by other learners

5. Ability to see what's being learned

6. Excitement about applying learning

More information is available on each of these concepts in the post.

Education researchers highlight BYOD as the technology practice that will best accommodate this vision of personalized learning.” According to further research, 70% of students report a significant increase in motivation for learning using mobile technology."

Mobile Learning, or mLearning for short, lets learners learn and get performance support via their mobile devices. A common misunderstanding in Ed Tech circles is that mLearning is short bite sized learning. Delivering information can be bite sized (just in time short pieces for on-job or specific tasks) but contextualised learning (which mLearning is particularly good at) can be complex and may require time to explain.

Why You Should Care About M-Learning

Why You Should Care About M-Learning | M.E.learning | Scoop.it

"Mobile learning is becoming increasingly popular in the workplace. There are a variety of reasons for this, but many have to do with the accessibility of mobile devices, the savings associated with a mobile enabled learning program, and the convenience mobile learning affords the learner. In fact, today if there is a learning management system (or courses) that do not perform on mobile devices, it is borderline in-excusable. In five years time, it will be flat-out archaic."
