An artist is making it difficult to believe there’s actually a copy of Justin Bieber’s latest album for sale in Los Angeles.

This seems like a creative way to get your material out there and purchased. It said 5,000 albums were sold in one day. I wonder if people who actually wanted the Justin Bieber album were upset about the prank and if they were did they even bother to listen to the actual album they had just purchased. If people were curious about the album and the prank then they may have actually listened to the album to find out who Paz Dylan is. I feel like if customers were not upset about their purchase this could have been a unique way to promote the album and get some people engaging in this artist who weren't previously. If the music was good and the people weren't upset I would say that Paz Dylan's April Fools prank was successful at expanding his fan base. I also wonder if the album was being sold for less than the Justin Bieber album to make up for the prank. Would the people who listen to Justin Bieber also be interested in Paz Dylan? Are they the same style of music and do they have the same target market?

iTunes wants more exclusive ‘Beyonce time’ for downloads

I think this is a really interesting article showing how Apple is trying to increase music sales and encourage people to actually pay for their music. The way Beyonce released her last album exclusively to iTunes for the first couple weeks seems like a very good way to force people into actually paying for the music. Her album was a video album, meaning every song was accompanied by a music video right from the beginning. The only way to hear the full songs and see the full music videos was to download the full album through iTunes. Beyonce fans get really into her music videos, so that fact that she only put up 30 second previews on her YouTube page was very smart. It made people very interested and I can assume it made people want to see more. In the end, it encouraged them to log into iTunes and make the purchase. I think this was a very good strategy for selling this album and the album was very successful. The fact that Apple wants to do this with more artists must mean it was a successful strategy. I think doing this more often in the future would be a really good way to increase music sales overall in the industry.
