Flipping the Classroom

Flipping the Classroom | Lyseo.org (ICT in High School) | Scoop.it

Flipping the classroom is a “pedagogy-first” approach to teaching. In this approach in-class time is “re-purposed” for inquiry, application, and assessment in order to better meet the needs of the individual learners. Students gain control of the learning process through studying course material outside of class, using readings, pre-recorded video lectures (using technology such as Tegrity), or research assignments. During class time, instructors become facilitators of the learning process by helping students work through problems individually and in groups.  There are numerous ways to flip your class.  In fact “every teacher who has chosen to flip does so differently,” says flipping gurus Bergmann and Sams (2012).  The University of Texas at Austin, has a nice “Quick Start” guide to help you determine what kind of flip is best for your course.

How To Teach Differently

How To Teach Differently | Lyseo.org (ICT in High School) | Scoop.it

Embrace that there is no “best” way. While certain hallmarks of teaching and content don’t change, literally every other layer of education does, from the standards themselves, to district “pushes,” available technology, and even what are accepted as “best practices.” So maybe a better way to put it is, embrace change.

Who knew that the Growth Mindset is just one component of the Academic Mindsets? (My answer would be "not me.") Having stumbled on this post from mimio I knew I had to share it. Learn about three other mindsets that our students need to be aware of:

* Self-Efficacy

* Sense of Belonging

* Relevance

Are these mindsets you use in our classroom? How might you incorporate them? What will your students think about them?

Väitös: 19.9.: Tieto- ja viestintätekniikan opetus kaipaa yhtenäisiä oppimateriaaleja (Ekonoja) — Jyväskylän yliopisto | Lyseo.org (ICT in High School) | Scoop.it

Tieto- ja viestintätekniikkaa (TVT) opetetaan suomalaisissa yläkouluissa harvoin valmiiden yhtenäisten oppimateriaalien avulla. Hyvin usein opettajat kokoavat materiaalit itse eri lähteistä.

Tumblr is one of the newer social media apps that allow free sharing of digital media over the web. It is a social channel that has not been left isolated by the educators, as more and more teachers turn to utilizing methods of using this app in their classrooms.

If you are a teacher and want to take advantage of this app, here are a few ways in which you can use Tumblr to bring a whole new life to your classroom:

This great article shows how we can use Tumblr in our classrooms. I love the suggestion of a quick and easy website or hosting an online debate. They also point out that we need to protect kids online, but they need experience to learn how to do this - Tumblr could be a good way to do this :0)

Any tips or advice for me?
