infozone's curator insight, June 12, 2013 11:39 PM

The advent of the internet means that more people are looking into marketing and advertising online, whether through banner ads or search engine optimization services.

The internet has caused a surge of new marketing jobs to be available for this sector of the economy. There are no more black and white techniques used to appeal to a wide range of people at once. Instead, careful study of smaller and more willing demographics is essential to understanding the buying climate of that part of the economy.

Being able to capture the mobile market is becoming all the more important for people in marketing. Advertising is a new method of reaching an audience that looks at their phone screen for a majority of the day. Thus, appealing to a mass market of consumers through applications and small sample purchases are a great way to make a profit off of the increased screen time per day. Mobile-geared advertisements can include animated graphics or even a short commercial clip.

The data storyteller is an individual who not only collects data, but is able to effectively analyze into marketing terms that the company can work with on advertising. This data can be everything from social networking polls to the number of users visiting a particular site per month. Other techniques include detecting patterns in collected data as well as new trends that can appear due to a world event or economic strife and prosperity. This important job works to make profitable a part of advertising that is crucial to reaching a wide variety of consumers

Someone who is into the details of marketing will work to make sure that each aspect of advertising has a distinctive brand feel to it, no matter how small or innocuous. Gift cards can reveal a lot about the spirit of the company, such as special holiday designs or throwback details that make them appeal to an older market that may have gone astray over the years. Appealing to both new and old consumers through brand identity is a great way to create a following for a particular brand.

Traditional marketing specialists are trained in modern advertising techniques and are always learning of new ways to reach out to customers in the most efficient and effective way. This means learning new technologies and how to best utilize them to showcase new products or reintroduce old ones. Specialists in this field can effectively brand and exemplify the spirit of the company in a way that reaches out to the largest demographic. Marketing directors ensure that there is a yearly quota being met, and the various advertising goals set out by the company. This includes deciding what to invest in in terms of advertising and marketing, as well as accompanying events and large corporate gatherings to further enhance the company’s image.

B2B Marketers Embrace Expanding Roles - DestinationCRM

B2B Marketers Embrace Expanding Roles - DestinationCRM | LydiaReeve | Scoop.it

Excerpted....

A study conducted by Forrester Research and the Business Marketing Association has revealed that 97 percent of business-to-business marketing leaders are taking on responsibilities they have never had to before, including managing social media on a regular basis.

The findings, released Wednesday, also revealed that more than 70 percent of the 117 B2B marketers surveyed are concerned about brand integrity and execution in social media, and 60 percent admit they are looking to hire young talent to help them navigate new and ever-changing technology. The problem that marketers face, however, is that the talent is hard to find—about 47 percent say they can't find people with the right skill sets, and 28 percent say it's nearly impossible to fill important positions.

As a result, the role of the traditional marketer has expanded significantly. According to the study, 87 percent of marketers have found that peer departments seek their input and data much more; 78 percent claim the marketing organization's influence on corporate strategy is much greater; 77 percent believe the stature of marketing's seat at the executive round table has risen; and 56 percent say they spend more time in front of the company's board of directors than in the past.

Content curation is not just for businesses. I find it's a wonderful way to store resources for myself, my students and likeminded users. It's a great way to share and add your own insights without having to write a full blog post. I can certainly recommend it for language teachers as a means of creating an accessible repository for already filtered material. It'll save you time and you'll always have extra content at hand for those moments when you need something for five-minute-activites or additional reading for those students that are working ahead in class etc. Try it out for yourself!

Ergonomic Office Supplies

Ergonomics play an important role in desk and office equipment

Via infozone
more...
infozone's curator insight, June 12, 2013 11:42 PM

The advent of computers has led to a rash of preventable physical ills, such as carpal tunnel and back pain. Fortunately, many companies are creating ergonomic office supplies to prevent pain while working.

Preventing back pain while working at a computer all day can be difficult if cheap chairs and desks are used. Even the type of keyboard and mouse can have an impact on the physical structure and pain of the body. By purchasing more ergonomic items that are functional and painless to operate, individuals can spend longer times working without pain.

Setting an advantageous height setting for office chairs is an important method of preventing pain. Correcting an otherwise ungainly height can work wonders in preventing spine problems in the future. Sitting up too high and too straight can put unnecessary stress on the lower back and cause pain in the future. Adjusting the height of the desk in correlation with the chair is the best way to get the ideal vantage point. Accessibility to the keyboard, mouse, and other commonly used objects should be taken into consideration as well.

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2345859,00.asp

Posture helps to further relax the body and prevent unneeded stress on joints and the back. Sitting up straight, contrary to popular belief, does not help in preventing back pain. Instead, a slight slouch with the legs at a ninety degree angle is the most natural and relaxed way to sit. Keeping feet flat or suspended on a resting bar are also good ways to help with relaxation and stress prevention. As well as this, getting up and moving around every hour or so helps to prevent joints from locking and getting stiff as the day goes on.

Ergonomic keyboard drawers serve to save space as well as make the typing device more accessible to office workers. Instead of hunching over in a chair, keyboards come directly within reach of the hands and fingers for easy use. These drawers can typically hold both the keyboard and the mouse, effectively clearing a lot of space on top of the desk for more important items. Mouse and hand rests can prevent carpal tunnel by placing the wrist in a more natural manner. This enables it to rotate and move more efficiently without stressing the joints.

Mice and split keyboards are great office products for the individual who wants to work long hours but keep their good health. More plush mice have rests for the hand and are more comfortable to hold than blockier and plastic products. A surplus of quick keys and buttons can make accessing applications and shortcuts on the computer easier, saving time and energy in reaching the keys on the keyboard. The idea to make sure that suing each device is made more comfortable and relaxing to use, instead of painful and stressful on the joints. To effectively protect the long term health of office employees, it is always advisable to invest in more ergonomic and comfortable office products.

This covers the strengths and weaknesses of Relational technology and positions why NoSQL has a place.

Like many other similar articles it arrives at the point where NoSQL looks great as long as you do not need transactional integrity (ACID Compliance).

Of course there are no NoSQL databases which can do this...or are there...?

Yes, there is ONE Enterprise NoSQL database which is ACID compliance without compromising scalability.
