This article talks about why schools should be teaching digital citizenship. I found this article very interesting and the 5 reasons made sense as to why teaching digital citizenship is important.

This has some great points. I feel like everyone should know the basics of digital learning and how to stay safe online. Teaching this in schools is a must.

2016: Rethinking Continuous Professional Development (CPD) | LEARNing To LEARN

2016: Rethinking Continuous Professional Development (CPD) | LEARNing To LEARN | Lund's K-12 Technology Integration | Scoop.it
Continuous Professional Development happens best through a daily dripfeed of information (from blog and web feeds) and interactions with other people active in your field (in social networks) – which over time builds up into a large body of knowledge and expertise – almost unconsciously. This is particularly useful way of keeping abreast of the NEW and the NEXT in your field of work – bearing in mind that in the fast moving world the horizon is rapidly approaching.

So why is continuous CPD of this type important?

It helps you to recognize the fact that learning comes not just from intermittent bouts of education but throughcontinuous interactions with people and access to content (both inside and outside the workplace). It allows you to be exposed to new thinking so that you not only keep your organisation up to date with new ideas, but also keep yourself up to date in terms of your own career. After all, there’s no such thing as a job for life!It helps you to recognize that learning comes not just from something that is organized for you, but something you organise yourself – as well as from daily experiences. It helps you to value this way of learning for yourself, and consequently to help build a continuous learning mindset – rather than an intermittent training mindset – in your organisation.

Flipped Learning: Using online video to transform learning :: Nesta

Flipped Learning: Using online video to transform learning :: Nesta | Lund's K-12 Technology Integration | Scoop.it
Digital technology is allowing teachers and learners to explore new approaches to traditional school lessons. The growing availability of online instructional videos creates the opportunity to move the learning of new content to outside of the classroom, freeing up class time for teachers to coach, and students to actively work on developing their own understanding.

Nesta and NFER carried out a study to explore how this approach can work in secondary maths classrooms across the UK, and how teachers use it to change the approaches to learning students take. We saw teachers use the approach to encourage students to take active responsibility for their learning, and for some to use it to accelerate their learning.

This project has produced a research report delving into the effects of Flipped Learning and the conditions needed for success. For those focused on classroom practice, we have also created a research-based practitioner guide to the approach, and a specific how-to guide for using resources from the Khan Academy and linking them to the UK curricula

Jim Lerman's insight: Three practical guides to implementing the Flipped Classroom model in secondary level math education. The setting is schools in the U.K., with a particular emphasis on Khan Academy videos -- however, much of the material is generalizable. Be sure to look at each of the 3 different guides.
