In December 2014, Uruguay became the first country to legalize the consumption, cultivation and distribution of marijuana—anyone over the age of 18 who is registered in the countrywide database is able to purchase it over the counter.

 

The government intends to track every legal marijuana plant in the country using RFID tags. All government-grown plants will also be cloned with genetic markers in order to further identify if a plant was grown legally. The genetic markers and RFID tags are intended to reduce illegal trafficking of the drug.

A recent study from MIT on supply-chain risk revealed that there is no correlation between the total amount a manufacturer spends with a supplier and the profit loss it would incur if that supply were suddenly interrupted. This finding defies what you might usually think.

 

Professor David Simchi-Levi of MIT’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Systems Division applied quantitative analysis to Ford Motor Company’s supply chain and discovered that the suppliers who would cause the most damage to Ford’s profits are those that provide low-cost components...

The Association for Automatic Identification and Mobility (AIM) recently selectedIntermec by Honeywell as the winner of their inaugural AIDC Case Study Competition. 

The winning case study was Intermec by Honeywell’s work with World Vision International, who needed to improve their efficiency in distributing aid in the field.
