There will be a lot of taxis in Chelsea this January

They’ve been linked to a lot of players, but there are 5 that seem like they might be more than idle gossip.

broderickk's insight:

As the dreaded Christmas fixture list gets played out, managers across the country look to their squads to ascertain which areas need to be bolstered. You can expect to see a fair number of taxis in Chelsea over the New Year, because Rafa Benitez seems convinced that the club needs to buy. They’ve been linked to a lot of players, but there are 5 that seem like they might be more than idle gossip.

1. Radamel Falcao

The big one, literally. Falcao has been in electrifying form ever since he first burst onto the scene as the colossal striker heading up Porto’s 4-3-3. Since then, a big money move to Madrid has done nothing to dampen his reputation, with many now hailing him as the greatest pure no.9 in the world. It’s easy to see why: his touch is tidy, his passing solid, his strength and balance well suited to the Premier League and, most importantly, he is an incredible goals corer. A threat from both the air and the ground, the Columbian would undoubtedly gives the blues the clinical edge they need in the final third. With “the three amigos” playing behind him and rampaging fullbacks supplying a lot of balls from the byline, Falcao could well become Europe’s most prolific scorer if he chooses to move to Stamford Bridge.

2. João Moutinho

As it stands, Chelsea are alarmingly light in midfield. With the suspension of Jon Obi Mikel and the future of Frank Lampard in doubt, Benitez must sign a central midfielder in January or risk crashing out of the top 4. Moutinho seems like the ideal candidate: he’s defensively sound with great positioning and a knack for intercepting the ball. What he really offers though, is a great range of passing and the ability to retain possession. This is something that’s pretty essential for the 4-2-3-1 that Chelsea are playing and something that they are distinctly lacking at the moment. Tottenham are also keenly watching the Portuguese midfielder though, so Roman Abramovich will have to act quickly if he wants to get his targets into SW3 taxis.

3. Marouane Fellaini

The Everton midfielder has undergone something of a renaissance this season. Finally moved forward into a more attacking position by David Moyes, Fellaini has show his true potential by unleashing a series of devastating runs into the box. Many believe him to be both the goalscoring midfielder that will replace Lampard and the physical presence that this blues side lacks in midfield. The question will be whether or not he can learn to curb his temper and put on a consistent run of form.

4. David Villa

With Chelsea desperately in need of goals Villa, who has scored just 2 since the start of the season, may not look to be the best of choices. However, he is just returning from a long injury and everyone knows of his prowess in front of goal. His ability to play on the wing and in the centre will be very important as Chelsea look for versatility from their new additions.

5. Stevan Jovetic

Despite playing as a secondary striker for much of his career, Jovetic has enjoyed a great spell at Fiorentina this season as a more orthodox no.9 His pace and skill with the ball at his feet will be just what Chelsea fans are looking for, whilst his creative mind and superb passing mean that he is more than capable of filling in should Mata, Hazard or Oscar become injured.

The period will also prove to be decisive for the fates of two of the club’s Spaniards. Benitez will have to solve structural problems, motivate the squad and secure a top 4 finish if he has any hope of staying on beyond the summer. Meanwhile Fernando Torres is aware that this is his final chance to prove himself.  Roman Abramovich has proven to be utterly ruthless in the past so the pair of them may well find themselves in Chelsea taxis this summer unless they can pull out all the stops.

Taxis are an easy way to explore Victoria

It doesn’t have to be that way. You’re not at the station now, you’re at home and you have the time to make things simple.

broderickk's insight:

Quickly! Frantic movement. Checking timetables. Grabbing coffee. Dodging latecomers. Faster! Suitcases skid past. The chatter of phones. Snippets of polite conversation between colleagues. Shout of frustration shattering any peace. Staff shepherding hordes down the stairs and to the right. The hustle and bustle of the city condensed under a single roof Victoria station.

It really is a wonderful place: a buzzing hive of excitement and anticipation, a place where worlds collide. There’s so much to be done, deadlines to be met, meetings to be attended, schedules to be adhered to. The nervous energy sweeps under the station’s newly renovated iron arches, through the misty cloud of coffee vapors and out into the city, past the Victoria station taxis, their drivers beset by unorganized travelers in the cold morning air: “will I make it on time?” “What platform? What carriage?” “Why didn’t I think of this before it was too late?” It’s all too easy to be caught up in it and swept away in a wave of panic and anxiety. Tense faces greet your apprehension and that feeling of dread niggling away at you grows.

It doesn’t have to be that way. You’re not at the station now, you’re at home and you have the time to make things simple. Don’t factor a meager minute or two into your journey to buy lunch; what if there’s a queue or if you can’t make up your mind? Why subject yourself to the pressure and the worry, the impatient tuts of your fellow commuters and yourself conscious realization that as you fumble around for your wallet, you’re making everyone else late too? Pack a lunch, get an earlier train, or buy your meal deal the night before to stop everything from being such a rush.

That bus that you want to catch, will it turn up on time? Who knows, sometimes they don’t seem to turn up at all. That tube might get you to the right area but do you know how to find your way through the winding maze of streets in the precious little time you have left? There are a lot of Victoria station taxis you know, have you thought about booking one of those?  It would save a lot of hassle.

You’d be surprised at how much your quality of life can improve if you just take the time to plan in advance. In this day and age, life is stressful enough without having to worry about doing everything at the last minute. There’s something rather beautiful about turning up at the station, everything taken care of, and letting the rush pass you by as you walk, calm and confident, through the thronging crowds, knowing that you’re safe.

So next time you’re standing at the Victoria station taxis rank, with the rain pouring down and time ticking, remember. It didn’t have to be this way.
