Linking to iTunesU content

To access iTunesU first you need to open iTunes on your computer

Click iTunes Store - Click iTunesU from the black bar along the top of the screen

There are several ways of locating resources:

- Search

    - Enter words into the search box located at the top right of screen (eg. Business administration)

    - To view information on a lecture/podcast series, tap on the record

    - To preview a lecture/podcast simply tap on the name of the lecture you want to view (some are video and audio, some are audio only)

- Browse

   - By university – tap Universities & Colleges and select the university you want (eg. Deakin University)

   - By category – under the iTunesU quick links section, click on the “all categories” option and then select the category that best suits your interest (Eg. Business). There are many options for you – new courses, top charts, all business collections

Once you’ve found a podcast that you want to share, click on the down arrow next to “subscribe free” button and then click “copy link”. You can now paste this URL into D2L/unit guide/etc.

Critical thinking

Author

Use a search engine to locate a bio for the author

   - Is the author affiliated with any universities/professionally recognised societies/etc? Does this affiliation bias their work?

   - Can you contact the author?

Publisher

If the article is published in a journal

   - Is it published in a reputable publication?

   - Does advertising feature in the article/publication for a product mentioned within the article?

If the resource is a website

   - Does it have an author’s name?

   - Does it have a date?

Here are some examples of 'dodgy' resources:

   - Dihydrogen monoxide research division website - http://www.dhmo.org/

   - Feline reactions to bearded men - http://www.improb.com/airchives/classical/cat/cat.html

Linking library resources in D2L (CloudDeakin)

To link to an e-book, e-journal or streamed video from Library catalogue:

    - right click on vendor name

    - left click on ‘copy link location’

You can now paste an ezyproxied URL into D2L

Linking to a specific journal article is done from within the subscribed database. Within Business Source Complete for example, all you need to do is click ‘permalink’ from the right task bar and copy the provided URL. Other databases can be a little more complicated and require a little hunting.
