Bill Palladino - MLUI's insight:

Nashville, TN:  An unfortunate episode for this community and this farm.  I do think it's deplorable that the article goes on to quote state health officials marking the event as an example of why unpasteurized, raw, milk is so dangerous.  It's rare to see mass health outbreaks from problems on small farms.  Why wouldn't this be said about the rash of outbreaks, e.coli, salmonella, etc. from factory-scale farms.  "State officials say the illnesses highlight the risks associated with eating food produced by faceless corporations."

FDA Finally Admits Chicken Meat Contains Cancer-Causing Arsenic | Local Food Systems | Scoop.it
After years of sweeping the issue under the rug and hoping no one would notice, the FDA has now finally admitted that chicken meat sold in the USA contains arsenic, a cancer-causing toxic chemical that’s fatal in high doses.
Bill Palladino - MLUI's insight:

Taking your food safety for granted in simply not smart.  As we approach the FSMA commenting deadline (extension), we should worry about regulations that look to protect industry more than protect the consumer.

Here's something that may be a solution for northwest Michigan, where I live and work.  Proteins are the #1 opportunity for small farms to jump into the marketplace, but the lack of processing in the region prevents it.  We've had some very small-scale mobile processing trailers for poultry.  We'd like to see something a bit bigger.

That’s putting it mildly, by looking at obesity statistics….
