We have little diversity left in our commodity crops.  Anyone who's gone through a jr. high school Earth science class can tell you that this is a disaster waiting to happen. Do we need another dust bowl to wake us up, or worse, a devasting organism attacking a huge piece of our food systems?

Stone Age Stew? Soup Making May Be Older Than We'd Thought : NPR | Local Food Systems | Scoop.it
There's nothing better on a cold day than a warm bowl of soup. But when did our ancestors first brew up this tasty broth? New archaeological evidence suggests that soup making could be tens of thousands of years old.
Bill Palladino - MLUI's insight:

We just love soup in our house.  One of those restorative things. It's also the great recycler, without having to separate the cans and bottles and carry it all to the curb.  Like liquid compost that you eat.  O.K., maybe I just took that too far. My favs are split pea with ham, and minestroni. What's your favorite soup?

Bill Palladino - MLUI's insight:

Frankly, I'm a bit shocked the average is so low. So many people are habituated to the convenience (and yes fastness) of fast food.  I'd put our family in the 1% or below category (we have a ten year old boy at home). How much do you think you consume of fast food?
