Critical Thinking: Educating Competent Citizens | #DigitalCitiZENship #eSkills | lmarsden | Scoop.it

We are becoming increasingly aware of the need to analyze the enormous amount of information we receive every day.  This information helps us in our cognitive development and participates in the construction of our patterns of perception of reality. In the case of children and young people, these patterns are in continual development.

Critical thought is a cognitive process that proposes the systematic analysis of information, opinion and statements that we accept in our daily life as valid or true. It is a basic skill for a competent, free and responsible citizen.

It is not about questioning every information we get everyday, it is about being critical with the information that is relevant to us when we make up an opinion about something.

Give your students the opportunity to publish their work to a larger audience, and ignight their interest in writing well! Particularly in genre such as fiction, poetry, and areas of self expression, students need more than their audience of one (you).
Here is a simple means for sharing beyond you; and if they solicit feedback, they can improve their writing and perhaps find an untapped outlet for self expression!

This Is How Artificial Intelligence Will Shape eLearning For Good - eLearning Industry | lmarsden | Scoop.it

Oskar Almazan's curator insight, December 30, 2016 1:47 PM
In an age where everything is changing –and changing fast– it’s easy to forget how much we’ve progressed. While we may not have floating cars or robotic teachers, we are on the brink of some very exciting and dramatic developments across all industries. As one of the principal drivers of progression, it’s no surprise that learning –and education in general– has been a focus of technological advances. While eLearning is not a new concept, its popularity is increasing, especially as technology becomes more affordable. A big barrier for eLearning is the cost of developing content. According to a survey conducted by Chapman Alliance, developing one hour of eLearning content can take anything from 49 to 125 hours. In comparison to the 22 to 82 hours that it takes for instructor-led training (ILT), it is easy to see how the costs stack up. Even though eLearning wins in the long run due to its scalability, it can still pose a barrier to companies that can’t afford the initial investment. Developing ways to repurpose existing content can mitigate the expense of content development, and recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be the silver bullet that’s needed. Here is how Artificial Intelligence will shape eLearning in the future.

Although there is a lot of uncertainty going into 2017, one area in which analysts remain consistently bullish is the world of social media. With an astonishing percentage of young adults using Snapchat and other platforms, there's no surprise that advertisers want to capitalize upon the traffic. Although Snapchat's filters certainly cost a pretty penny for the company, the high amount of users undoubtedly makes up for it. Paid advertising has been skyrocketing within the past few years, which comes as no surprise to many marketing departments. Social media—and its legions of influencers—have changed the way the game is played. Another game changer happens to be Instagram, which has skillfully created a Stories feature that rivals Snapchat's own. Giving rise to a lot of buzz about AI—and its implications for the world of social media—these moves have grabbed the attention of many people inside and outside of the industry. With new features that can even track a social media user's mood, companies stand poised to learn more about their customers than ever before. And, when it comes to marketing, knowledge is truly power. As we move through 2017, this power will be unleashed in full force.
