Managers...Born or Made?

Managers...Born or Made? | Living & Learning | Scoop.it

We are talking about the need of leadership in managers 2.0 and confronting the question: If leadership is an aptitude with which one is born? Or is leadership an aptitude that is made?

We are all born, and we are all made, mostly by ourselves!

AlGonzalezinfo's curator insight, January 29, 2014 2:33 PM

Excellent scoop, Kenneth and David.  I just did a great podcast with Gen. John Michel on this topic that will go live on Monday.

Here is my favorite section of the post:

I have always argued that a manager feels alone. What drives him/her then? Cold spreadsheets on a screen in a closed office? That is the past.

The future of Management 2.0 will be for leaders trained in all of the intricacies of the community. This is the challenge for the new manager.

Very interesting 2020 vison, but can we please stop using 2020

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, May 9, 2014 7:26 PM

It sounds like digital technologies are the only way people will be educated. Blending what has been done with new tools is essential moving forward.

Efficienarta's curator insight, January 10, 2014 4:51 AM

For the "spoon approach" outlined to be effective (and not create a "death by 1000 uncoordinated initiatives), I suggest strong shared values are needed and a step towards this is a Leader (not necessarily charismatic) who:

a. Communicates well the vision for the enterprise and has mechanisms for obtaining employee's "help" in evolving it

b. Articlates clearly how enterprise values guide the vision

c.Links the initiatives taking the spoon approach to organisational values and the vision

d. Visible "sponsors" the activities and actions needed .....

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, January 10, 2014 6:08 PM

It is difficult because there is little real conversation and listening that goes on. It is all about agendas and protecting the status quo.
