Solve Problems Like an Entrepreneur by Focusing on the Process

Solve Problems Like an Entrepreneur by Focusing on the Process | Living Leadership | Scoop.it
Most people solve a problem by identifying a goal and then pursuing a path directly towards that ideal, but when you ask a successful entrepreneur what to do, you might get a different answer. They don't think in terms of an endpoint; they think of the process.
Matthew Fritz's insight:

Process-based thinking--seeing not only the outcome, but the sum of it's parts and the path to get there--is not some magical trait only entrepreneurs have cornered the market on.  You possess this ability, and entrepreneurs are keyed into it by virtue of their goals.  Attempt to see the forest...and the trees!

Performance or Potential - General Leadership

Performance or Potential - General Leadership | Living Leadership | Scoop.it
The question is not performance or potential, its performance AND potential.
Matthew Fritz's insight:

My good friend, Dan "SHIP" Lasica has a wonderful way of words.  As a result, he is capable of conveying his unique perspective based upon years of hands-on, command-level leadership experience.  I can attest, first-hand, to the value of his leadership unders some of the most challenging conditions out at a small post leading a large training force in Afghanistan. Take note of the outstanding framework he introduces and how it can provide true value for your team!

Extensive Taliban Assault Challenges U.S. Military Facility in Kabul, Afghanistan

Extensive Taliban Assault Challenges U.S. Military Facility in Kabul, Afghanistan | Living Leadership | Scoop.it
Fighting erupted in the pre-dawn hours of July 17th, after heavily armed insurgents penetrated the airfield’s outer defenses to strike at Forward Operational Base (FOB) Oqab, the headquarters of the US Air Force’s 438th Air Expeditionary Wing. As the attack spiraled, eyewitnesses on the scene reported, weapons fire spilled over into neighborhoods along the Qasaba Road, shut down military and civilian air traffic into Kabul, and diverted US and international flights to Bagram, and as far away as Mazar-i-Sharif.
Matthew Fritz's insight:

I don't publish a lot of overtly military feeds here, but this one caught my attention....as I was there to witness this one first hand.  I and my teammates are fortunate to be here today thanks to the quick, professional and heroic actions of our defenders who answered their call in spades.  Anyone who says Air Force airmen aren't capable in battle weren't there to see my brothers and sisters in arms throw 3000 rounds of lead downrange towards an enemy that kept on coming.  17 July is truly a day I will never forget--and I'm glad to see this story make the news to tell their tale.

7 Leadership Qualities You May Not Know You Have

These are things you don't need to learn in books or B-schools. Build on these personal traits to become a more effective leader. (Yes, yes, yes!
Matthew Fritz's insight:
Too often we are our own worst critics. As a result, we often overlook the best qualities within ourselves...which is a shame. Understanding your traits and identifying your strengths is paramount to your ability to meet a challenge and apply yourself towards overcoming it. The trick is knowing that the ability to lead is within all of us! (And following through with action, not words...)

Change Management Requires Leadership Clarity and Alignment

Change Management Requires Leadership Clarity and Alignment | Living Leadership | Scoop.it
Change management is in full-force across all industries, yet many leaders are unprepared to act upon and operationalize the requirements for change to avoid business disruption. For many organizations, preparedness begins at the top and this means that leadership – across all levels – must have absolute clarity in purpose and focus; there also must be alignment in strategic philosophy and resolution goals.

Unfortunately, many organizations are slow to change as the internal politics makes it difficult to reach consensus across all levels of leadership – even when the necessity for change is urgent. This is why many companies unknowingly lose momentum as they fail to change fast enough -- allowing the marketplace and competitors to pass them by. The result: valuable time is misspent, resources applied and money invested without the required outcomes to stay competitive, keep clients satisfied and employees engaged.

Are Millennials Compatible With U.S. Military Culture?

Are Millennials Compatible With U.S. Military Culture? | Living Leadership | Scoop.it
An editorial in a magazine published by the U.S. Naval Institute grouses about the behavior of Millennials: their constant texting ignores the chain of command and they're way too laid back to serve in the military. A Millennial naval officer has responded online—and he blew those complaints out of the water.
Matthew Fritz's insight:

I consider it a privilege to learn with and from generations worth of warriors in the military.  I would imagine previous generations wondered the same about my clan when we entered the ranks.  In the end, it's about communicating--leading through engagement.  As a result, today's generation of leaders must lean into their discomfort to learn the language of today's generation of hopefuls in order to engage, communicate and interact in a way that is both meaningful and valuable to all involved.  This is exactly why embracing, rather than fearing, social media is so important--it is a stream of communication that should be explored by anyone hoping to reach out and connect.

The Transformative Power of Positive Leadership

The Transformative Power of Positive Leadership | Living Leadership | Scoop.it

All of these characteristics have one thing in common. They are contagious. As a leader, you have the opportunity every day to inject energy and passion into your team or organization. You can choose to use your positive influence to do everything in your power to leave the world better than you first found it.

Radioactive waste not required.

Matthew Fritz's insight:

I'm a big fan of the great stuff my friend, Deb Mills-Scofield publishes on her blog at Innovanomics.  In her relentless pursuit of blue-lobsters in life, she brings together diverse people into random collisions of enlightenment and fascinating conversation.  This article, by my friend General John E. Michel, captures this transformative power perfectly.
