Researchers release study on Chicago Police Department corruption--Police are part of the gang, drug&gun violence

Researchers release study on Chicago Police Department corruption--Police are part of the gang, drug&gun violence | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it
From gang activity to civil rights violations to illegal drug dealing, 300 Chicago police officers have been convicted of crimes since 1960 - and a third of those convictions happened since the year 2000.

Researchers from the University of Illinois-Chicago on Thursday released the report entitled “Crime, Corruption and Cover-ups in the Chicago Police Department,” which details police corruption and offers remedies.

Vice in the police department dates back to prohibition and the early days of the mob, which was linked to Chicago machine politics. The report says in later decades, street gangs cut deals with dirty cops. And as the War on Drugs escalated, so did corruption.

“The question on everyone’s mind is why is the gang problem so serious in Chicago. And the gang problem has always been serious in Chicago, in part, because the problem of police corruption has always been so serious,” said John Hagedorn, a criminal justice professor who helped write the report.

The report says the CPD “has at the very least a culture that tolerates police misconduct and corruption.” It says a “blue code of silence” and the failure of state’s attorneys to prosecute wrongdoers contributes a climate of tolerance.

littlebytesnews's insight:

No surprise...this explains why they have such a high crime rate. The police are part of the problem...and they are armed, while the citizens are disarmed and left to the consequences of this corruption.

Democratic lawmaker apologizes for suggesting women afraid of rape can’t be trusted with guns

Democratic lawmaker apologizes for suggesting women afraid of rape can’t be trusted with guns | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it

Democratic Colorado state Rep. Joe Salazar apologized Monday for suggesting some women are so unjustifiably afraid of being raped that they are liable to start shooting wildly.

Salazar, arguing in favor of disarming college students, said Friday on the Colorado House floor that women fearing rape may suddenly and haphazardly ”pop a round at somebody.”

“It’s why we have call boxes; it’s why we have safe zones; it’s why we have the whistles — because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop … pop a round at somebody,” Salazar said.

Watch:

Salazar apologized on Monday in a statement.

“I’m sorry if I offended anyone,” Salazar said in the statement. ”That was absolutely not my intention. We were having a public policy debate on whether or not guns makes people safer on campus. I don’t believe they do. That was the point I was trying to make. If anyone thinks I’m not sensitive to the dangers women face, they’re wrong. I am a husband and father of two beautiful girls, and I’ve spent the last decade defending women’s rights as a civil rights attorney. Again, I’m deeply sorry if I offended anyone with my comments.”

littlebytesnews's insight:

What a fool...and yet the liberal media will likely ignore this comment unlike they did when Todd Akin said something about women who conceive in rape and Murdock saying something about conception is God's will and they twisted both of their statements to make it sound like they were defending rapists.

Developing: Coroner Called to Bucks County Police Standoff--PA Man shooting at police barricaded in apartment

Developing: Coroner Called to Bucks County Police Standoff--PA Man shooting at police barricaded in apartment | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it
Police say a coroner was called to a barricade situation in Warminster, Bucks County.

It’s happening at the Jefferson on the Creek Apartment complex on 675 Street Road. A man inside an apartment allegedly fired multiple shots at police who have the complex surrounded. Investigators say the man is still inside and refuses to leave. Police say the ordeal began around 7:30 p.m. and that the suspect began shooting as soon as police approached his apartment.

Ashley Smith tells NBC10 she was coming home from work when her husband called her on her cell to tell her one of their neighbors was firing at police.

"He said he's in apartment 2005 and he's barricaded inside," said Smith.

Officials say the suspect's wife was inside the apartment with the man earlier but is now out of the apartment, unharmed. She is currently being interviewed by investigators.

Police say a coroner was called to the scene for a fatality. They have not yet revealed if the death is related to the shooter however.

littlebytesnews's insight:

Hope they get him to stop firing at them and nobody is harmed...but it sounds like he may have shot himself if they called the coroner or they expect him to die??

Looney Liberal Creates Violent ‘Shoot Sandy Hook Kids’ Video Game

Looney Liberal Creates Violent ‘Shoot Sandy Hook Kids’ Video Game | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it

This game will allow you to be Adam Lanza, and shoot up elementary school kids in a simulation of Sandy Hook Elementary. Gizmo01942?s ‘Class Warfare’ aims to ‘recreate the tragic events that happened in Newtown Connecticut using a video game.’ The game will virtually recreate the building, classrooms and even students from Sandy Hook. Gizmo01942nifty claims he is making this game for a ‘nifty sociological experiment.’

Gizmo01942, responding to another post writes, “I’ll definitely have child death screams, but no tutorials,” and plans to include “clear and offensive references to autism.” The implication here is that the gamer “plays” as Adam Lanza — the Sandy Hook murderer.

The anonymous author has made his reasoning for creating the game clear: “I’m doing this as my own way to deal with the events, and releasing only because it will entertain you guys, and any controversy it generates will serve as a nifty sociological experiment.”

littlebytesnews's insight:

He must have issues with getting enough attention if he is doing this to create controversy and as a “sociological experiment”.

Liberalism has no bounds. They don’t have common sense, nor compassion, yet they claim the GOP are heartless and don’t care if women and children are left without health care, etc. They are the party of extremes from ‘sociological experiments’ in brainwashing to abortion on demand up until 40 weeks to euthanasia and voting against God three times at their National Convention in November 2012. Senate Democrats threaten to go back on their promise of passing the first budget in four years. This they plan to do if Republicans don't agree to raise taxes so they can avoid the effects of spending cuts by sequestration. Seriously? Their solution to the cuts that are supposed to make them get in gear is to procrastinate and put a greater burden on the American people? A great idea would be to work together to get this solved and consider the people of America when doing so.

Conservative columnist resigns after Kentucky paper refuses to run op-ed on publication’s liberal bias

Conservative columnist resigns after Kentucky paper refuses to run op-ed on publication’s liberal bias | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it

The lone conservative columnist at the largest and most influential newspaper in Kentucky says he quit writing for the paper because editors are refusing to publish his opinion piece calling the publication out for its apparent liberal bias.

Columnist John David Dyche told The Daily Caller Monday that he’s written for the Louisville Courier-Journal for about a decade and his column had never been rejected until last week.

Dyche says he quit after Pam Platt, the paper’s editorial page editor, left him a voicemail on Feb. 11 making it clear they wouldn’t run his piece about the paper’s politics.

“Hi, John David, it’s Pam Platt at the Courier-Journal and I’m just calling to let you know that I’m not going to run your column tomorrow,” Platt said, according to a transcript provided to TheDC. “To me it goes sort of off of what your column is supposed to be.”

Added Platt: “My understanding is a conservative take on issues of the day and that’s not what this is. So, anyway, thanks a lot and I’ll talk to you soon.”

TheDC obtained a copy of the rejected column. In it, Dyche called on the editorial page to be more balanced.

“Journalistic jihads against Kentucky’s Republican U. S. Senators, Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul, and crusades for gun control and higher taxes, are in full force and frequently fill almost the entire editorial and op-ed pages,” he wrote. “Such one-sidedness neither works in the marketplace nor serves the public interest.”

Dyche also called on the paper’s reporters to disclose their political affiliations in the spirit of transparency.

“Like the rest of the press, The Courier-Journal claims to play an exalted role in public affairs,” Dyche wrote. “But while righteously demanding absolute openness and full disclosure from every other entity and person involved in government, the press does not apply the same standard to itself. Change that by disclosing the party registration and voting choices of all editors and reporters.”

Aside from it’s avowedly liberal editorial pages, Republicans often claim the paper is more hostile to conservatives like McConnell and Paul than liberals in the state in its news coverage.

An example of the paper’s anti-McConnell stance is its November editorial calling on their senior senator to resign as Senate minority leader because President Obama won re-election. ”If he refuses, his members should oust him and use the next four years to work their way out of the gridlock they created under Mr. McConnell’s tutelage,” the paper argued.

In his column, Dyche wrote that “Newspapers indignantly proclaim that their editorial and news departments do not coordinate…but the hand-in-glove relationship between such ideological soul mates is undeniable” at the Courier-Journal.

“Opening up the process might not prevent such slanted presentation of news in the service of liberal objectives, but it could deter and expose it,” he wrote.

After Platt rejected the column, Dyche sent an email letter to her and publisher Wesley Jackson offering his resignation. He argued his submitted column very much fit under the category of “a conservative take on the issues of the day.”

“One of those issues is liberal media bias,” he wrote in the email, which TheDC obtained.

littlebytesnews's insight:

Good for him, if only more journalists had his ethics and integrity...

This is what journalism is supposed to be...:

What is Journalism
http://www.journalism.org/node/72

The first among them is that the purpose of journalism is to provide people with the information they need to be free and self-governing.

To fulfill this task:

Journalism's first obligation is to the truth.

Its first loyalty is to citizens.

Its essence is a discipline of verification.

Its practitioners must maintain an independence from those they cover.

It must serve as an independent monitor of power.

It must provide a forum for public criticism and compromise.

It must strive to make the significant interesting and relevant.

It must keep the news comprehensive and proportional.

Its practitioners must be allowed to exercise their personal conscience.
Why these nine? Some readers will think items are missing here. Where is fairness? Where is balance? After synthesizing what we learned, it became clear that a number of familiar and even useful ideas -- including fairness and balance -- are too vague to rise to the level of essential elements of the profession. Others may say this list is nothing new. To the contrary, we discovered that many ideas about the elements of journalism are wrapped in myth and misconception. The notion that journalists should be protected by a wall between business and news is one myth. That independence requires journalists be neutral is another. The concept of objectivity has been so mangled it now is usually used to describe the very problem it was conceived to correct.

This is still more evidence of the blatant and open hostility public media takes against conservative viewpoints and ideology. Censorship is not new to mainstream media even though they will fight to deny such claims. Even in an OPINION piece...we see media actively subverting any opposing views or any attempt to expose that which is already well known...BIASED reporting....

littlebytesnews's comment, February 22, 2013 12:10 AM
This is why we need more watchdog bloggers and investigative journalists or journalists like this guy to become watchdog bloggers and investigative reporters to expose the biased media to share the truth...sadly the liberal media has a monopoly and many don't give enough credit to the investigative reporting of online conservative blogs and web sites like The Blaze, Breitbart, WND, etc. Hopefully it will change once more people realize the media is screwing them over and covering up the truth before it's too late to save our country!

Mainor is a policeman who chairs the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee. He has since "unliked" the two pages.

But I say no...they are not innocently involved...they are not ignorant...they DO know what they are doing and support it...and they are simply hateful and violent people who are immersing themselves in this culture to desensitize themselves...become more detached....And when things get bad and you look to them for some sympathy or ethical intervention...you won't get any....We are always the ones who break or give in to our own morals...ethics...and conscious...forgiveness is our centerpiece...and Leftists are counting on that...and will exploit that to our own demise. Just be aware that you will get none from the Left....

Tiger opens up about Obama’s golf game - Video

Tiger opens up about Obama’s golf game - Video | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it
Video on msnbc.com: NBC’s Kristen Welker reports on Tiger Woods’ response to questions about how he would rate President Obama’s golf game – and whether the White House is providing enough access to the media.
littlebytesnews's insight:

Hope he was honest and said Obama sucks and the media should have had access, not that I care if he's golfing again, but so much for transparency. What gets me is that the liberal media gets upset at being kept away from Obama's private golf sessions with Tiger Woods, but they don't try to get more information on where Obama was and why he went to bed when he knew four Americans were under attack and left them for dead in Benghazi.

For all we know there were no survivors because nobody is yet to see or interview any of the supposed 30 survivors or their families, but we've heard from Algeria hostage survivors already from last months hostage crisis.

Latest in battle over looming cuts

The worse thing about it all is the military/defense cuts because national security is more important than paying someone's welfare check. Our government is required to protect our national security not pay for people's welfare. Obama doesn't want to cut entitlement spending though because those are Democrats loyal voters and they keep re-electing them. Govt welfare is their drug and Democrats like to keep feeding their addiction to entitlements and govt dependence rather than personal responsibility and independence.

Let's not forget WHO created the committee that came up with the idea of sequestration if a deal couldn't be reached on tax cuts and raising revenues... And lets not forget it was Obama himslef to turn his back on his own panel and the plan they submitted to him because it was not a "balanced" effort to raise taxes and cut spending...and this failure or refusal by Obama FORCED us to face this sequester...NOT because conservatives made it up...It was Obama and his narcissistic rebuttal of others ideas....
