SEQUESTER: Valid Concerns from Those Worried About Defense--But an appropriations bill could fix it!

SEQUESTER: Valid Concerns from Those Worried About Defense--But an appropriations bill could fix it! | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it

...Defense spending in 2008 was $686 billion. Current estimates for 2014 push that down to $558 billion — an 18 percent cut even before taking inflation into account. When something is being cut that much, that fast, the “meat cleaver” approach is especially worrisome because it really does threaten to slice into sinew and bone. This is particularly problematic for national defense, which is the first and most important obligation of the national government.

The good news for defense is that subsequent appropriations bills can fix the real problem areas, as both sides at least in theory agree that those cuts in across-the-board form are unsustainable (see Leon Panetta’s repeated warnings).

The level of the domestic cuts, on the other hand, has even been accepted by Harry Reid and other Democrats. It will soon become apparent that on the domestic front, Barack Obama has cried wolf. Most Republicans in Congress, mirable dictu, seem to understand this. Refusing to kowtow to Obama on this is good politics. Republicans should hold firm now, and then get to work on fixing the defense problems via the upcoming continuing resolution. All told, this is a small win for limited government — if we can keep it.

littlebytesnews's insight:

So the Congress can still come out with an appropriations bill for the military and prevent the 18% cuts that are scheduled to take effect on our national security, but will the do nothing Senate pass anything from the House and will Obama sign it?? Or does national security not matter to those who are trying to destroy our economy and our countries sovereignty?

Was he murdered or forced to hang himself because of the work he was doing? I saw his parents on the news today talking about his case and they think he was forced into committing suicide because the suicide note found didn't sound like something he would say and that suicide was not something he would do unless forced. They also said his hard drive on his computer had been accessed sometime before or just after his death, which could  have something to do with his sudden death.  Hmm..

Southern California authorities say they have found a suicide note on a computer belonging to a 20-year-old man accused of killing three people during a deadly rampage last month.

They said the document was created Feb. 19, the same day Syed fatally shot a woman at his parents' house and then shot and killed two others before taking his own life.

Authorities say the note gives some indication that the killings were premeditated and planned.

They also said they haven't found any connection between Syed and his victims.

This article is about all the cuts the government is making. They are saying that americans are cuting all of their cable and all the extra things they don't need to save money because average income fell 3.6 percent in january. Since we are able to cut all of our extra spending they are saying the government should be able to do the same. They are also saying that its ridiculous the government cannot cut 2 percent of government spending but us americans are getting cut 2 percent each month for our paychecks

I don't think it's fair that American citizens are having to make sacrifices with family budgets, while the federal government is only cutting 2 percent of their spending. In order to fix the whole deficit problem, I think everyone has to make sacrifices, including the federal government.

WATCH – In Memoriam – Andrew Breitbart, Born: February 1, 1969 – Died: March 1, 2012. Last Message: A Call To #WAR « Pat Dollard | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it

Click headline for video of Breitbart's last speech at CPAC 2012

Pat Dollard's Message:

One year ago today, my good friend Andrew Breitbart passed away. A blog post just ain’t gonna cut what I have to say, so a LOT more on all that later and in a different venue, and instead I’ll leave you with Andrew’s last great war cry, his 2012 CPAC speech.

littlebytesnews's insight:

I never met Andrew Breitbart, but followed him on twitter and watched him on news reports. He had a lot of energy and inspired many young conservatives and citizen journalists, like me, to continue spreading our message throughout the 2012 campaign season.

I started using twitter and social media like Facebook regularly in 2008, but as I found more motivated, politically disenfranchised conservatives it was more inspiring for me to continue tweeting and blogging about what matters most to me. I never took an interest in politics until the 2008 campaign season and after I learned more about Obama.

Unfortunately we were unable to stop his win in 2008 and 2012, but we will continue to spread the message of conservatism, Constitutionalism, free markets and individualism as the only true way to freedom and prosperity. More government, more laws and regulations do nothing but hinder business, economic growth and individual freedoms. It doesn't take much political science background nor economic knowledge to realize these things...it takes common sense and a willingness to listen and learn from history.

However, sadly too many are fooled by the utopian views of a great speaker/teleprompter reader like Obama and they re-elected him with the promises of a better economy, more government support/programs such as Obamacare and ignored the warnings of what  would happen. Now many more are realizing the promises in Obamacare are false and their premiums are going up, many are losing jobs and having their hours cut to cover the costs of health care and many companies are going out of business. In addition, many are earning less now than they have in over 20years according to the latest economic reports. http://patdollard.com/2013/03/household-incomes-lowest-in-2-decades/

Anyway, it is sad we lost a great voice in the Conservative movement but since then thousands more have become more vocal and new media has given us a new voice. Hopefully one day soon new media will over take old media and the truth will be reported again to the public. Unfortunately, at this time the mainstream media has become a propaganda arm of the federal government more now than ever under the Obama administration and when he doesn't like negative reporting even from long-time journalists like Bob Woodward of the Washington Post or Lanny Davis, he or his minions will launch attacks on them or deny they threatened them during personal phone calls or email conversations.

The “Wasn’t Me” President

Hey Barack man, come on man. Let me in man.
Uh, Bill is that you?
Yeah man. It’s Hillary. She caught me again.
Uh, well, wait because I don’t have my teleprompter right now.
It’s one of Monica’s relatives; she just turned 20 and showed up at a function. I couldn’t help it
No matter what… It wasn’t you

How do you do it? Cus they caught me red handed stain on the dress and all
You got away with Solyndra, Bengazi, and you can’t roll a Bowling Ball
How could I forget that a woman could save some sample seed
You spent 2.6 times faster than bush while families can’t afford to eat

Keep your likeability up to a max
Never let’em see you sweat. just relax
Call’em penalties if it’s really a tax
And the media will cover your tracks

To be a true playa never ever, ever choke
If they catch you in a lie tell em you misspoke
47% don’t care about the math
SO when they got you dead to rights, just laugh.

Your dad and Grand dad were Commies (Uh it wasn’t me)
Your mom and Mentor were too (Uh it wasn’t me)
Your Pastor said “Damn America” (Uh it wasn’t me)
They got you and Miedvedev on Camera (Uh it wasn’t me)
You’re playin with the numbers (Uh it wasn’t me)
You said you’d be transparent (Uh it wasn’t me)
You said Al-Qaida’s on the run (Uh it wasn’t me)
You’re try’in to gut the military (Uh it wasn’t me)

littlebytesnews's insight:

LOL, I thought this was pretty funny…wish I could get the rest of the lyrics. Listen and watch as a Clinton impersonator tells Obama he got caught again with another woman, not Monica Lewinsky, but a relative and then goes through the list of things Obama has gotten away with thanks to the complicit lapdog media, this one really stood out:

“You got away with Solyndra, Benghazi, and you can’t roll a Bowling Ball”

Angry lawmakers Say Mullah Kerry Left Them In The Dark About Sending 60 Million To Syrian Rebels

Angry lawmakers Say Mullah Kerry Left Them In The Dark About Sending 60 Million To Syrian Rebels | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it

Lawmakers on Thursday said the State Department left Congress in the dark about the administration’s decision to aid rebel forces in Syria.

The leaders of the panels that cover foreign policy told The Hill they weren’t briefed ahead of Secretary of State John Kerry’s announcement Thursday that America would be sending $60 million worth of food and medicine directly to the rebels battling Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The chairmen of the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services panels — Sens. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and Carl Levin (D-Mich.) — weren’t informed ahead of time, but did not express complaints.
Republicans also weren’t informed, and expressed dismay at being shut out as the administration crafts a major piece of America’s policy in the Middle East.

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that Kerry used to chair, said his staff were talking to the State Department until 8 p.m. Wednesday to get a sense of what might be discussed at Thursday’s meeting in Rome with the Syrian opposition. They were told nothing.

“So, we’re going to have a little discussion with them about that,” he said. “I mean, look, we probably support the policy. But we were a little disappointed that no head’s up was given. It’s not a good way to start out and we want to make sure it does not happen again.”
Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said he wasn’t briefed, either.

littlebytesnews's insight:

So the Congress, particularly the members of the House Foreign Relations Committee that John Kerry Scary used to lead were not briefed/told that the US would be sending $60 Million in aid to the Syrian rebels/terrorists opposing Assad?? How is he able to get away with this delegation of money to jihadists without any Congressional approval or knowledge? What happened to the House being the holders of the purse in DC?

Just like Obama sending aid money to Hamas and weapons to the Muslim Brotherhood without Congressional approval and opposition...or sending troops to Nigeria with just a letter/statement telling them he's going to send them. What happened to the three branches of government and especially the legislative powers of the House and Senate? Is Obama overstepping his bounds again and acting as a dictator, even though he reminded us today that he's not a 'dictator'??

#SequesterThis Twitter Campaign Launched By Conservative Businessman Against Obama Media Hype | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it

Although, Obama has officially signed the sequester provision tonight, there is a conservative media campaign on twitter working to expose the waste in government spending that Obama and the do nothing, obstructionist Democratic Senate is unwilling to cut. Instead Obama is threatening to cut essential government programs and services such as military defense and national security programs including releasing thousands of illegal immigrant criminals the past month.

According to CBN, “Bill Frezza, a fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, warned in a Forbes.com op-ed that the President Obama’s sequester plans will backfire.”

He said if the president tries to make Americans feel pain by cutting essential services, it will actually highlight all the non-essential government programs that could more easily be trimmed.

Frezza has created the hashtag #SequesterThis. He wants people to tweet any government waste or fraud they’d rather see slashed by the sequester.

littlebytesnews's insight:

I know I for one would like to see wasteful spending on research such as studying male genitalia cleansing in Africa stopped, along with all foreign aid to countries that burn the American Flag, including: Egypt, Pakistan, Afghanistan and others.

Obama is going to be embarassed when nobody notices the sequester cuts, but that is the reason he plans to attack vital services to things like our military and national security which are essential to protect and defend the US and our interests. Instead Obama spent about 45 minutes today saying don't blame him when the economy worsens and services are delayed or parents are having to find childcare for their kids when teachers are laid off, blah blah blah...but if he doesn't cut essential programs what would he do if nobody noticed the cuts?? It sure would wake people up to realize how many programs we don't need and how much waste their really is in our bloated government. Senator Tom Coburn of OK has laid out a great list of wasteful spending in his 2013 Annual Report of Most Wasteful Government Spending...see link and examples below. Video:

Oklahoma City bombing victims still haven't received disaster funds--Foundation Pres blames delays on IRS

Oklahoma City bombing victims still haven't received disaster funds--Foundation Pres blames delays on IRS | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it
By Anna SchecterRock Center
A group of survivors and relatives of those killed in the Oklahoma City bombing are outraged that there is $10 million sitting in a disaster relief fund designed to help them.

A year after the bombing, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation was entrusted with $14.5 million in donated money from sympathetic individuals and religious groups around the world. The money was put into a newly established Oklahoma City Disaster Relief Fund.

Then-Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating mandated that the fund be used to help with the long-term health care needs of survivors and scholarships for children who lost a parent in the blast.

Watson said the Oklahoma City Community Foundation was helpful at first, but as the years wore on, the caseworkers lost their empathy.

“It's been horrible.  It has been absolutely horrible. I try not to reveal that to P.J., the struggle, the attitude, the lack of respect,” Watson told NBC News' Harry Smith in an interview that aired on NBC's Rock Center with Brian Williams.

In 2005, then-11-year-old Allen needed major surgery on his trachea. Watson, who became his sole guardian after the bombing, said the Oklahoma City Community Foundation refused to pay for the surgery directly, instead steering her toward Medicaid to cover the cost.

“Why would the state of Oklahoma have to take money from taxpayers when money's been donated to the bombing fund to meet the medical needs of the children?” asked Watson.

The Ronald McDonald House, the Red Cross and the Oklahoma City Community Foundation all pitched in to cover hospital and living expenses during Allen’s recovery and rehabilitation after the surgery.

Watson and a handful of disgruntled survivors and relatives of those killed have formed a group called the Survivor Tree.

Nancy Anthony, president of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, says the fund for the victims of the bombing has helped nearly 1000 people.

Adding insult to injury, in 2005 the Oklahoma City Community Foundation decided to reallocate nearly $4.5 million away from the survivors to a variety of causes including the Oklahoma City National Memorial, other communities hit by disasters and future research on disaster relief.

“They decided to give $4.4 million away, and we're on welfare…. I can't even imagine that,” said Watson.

Anthony said she will revisit the decision to reallocate money to other causes.

“We were thoughtful about it at the point in time when we did it,” she said. “We had perhaps a different perspective of it. So that can be revisited.”

Anthony underscored that she is fulfilling the mandate the foundation was given when the bombing fund was formed, as well as following the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service.

The Disaster Relief Fund has provided $11.1 million in assistance through 16,256 transactions to 962 people, according to the foundation’s website.

When asked if the role of the foundation was to be paternalistic, she replied, “I guess that might be what we have done, whether that's good or bad.”

Attorney Ken Feinberg, who handled the distribution of billions of dollars for victims of 9/11, the BP oil spill, and the Virginia Tech and Aurora movie theater shootings, said taking a paternalistic approach is the worst thing you can do.

Anthony said her hands are tied. She said the foundation is bound by IRS restrictions and her duty to the donors.

“We have limitations. We can't always do what [the survivors] want us to do.  And I think that there needs to be a little bit of respect for trying to understand what the donors wanted. And I don't think you can say that everyone donated money for a specific thing,” she said.

littlebytesnews's insight:

Survivors and relatives killed in the OK City bombing in 1995  are still yet to receive relief? I first thought the federal government was the one responsible for providing the relief money as they have done with 9/11, Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy. However, this money is coming from a private fund that was given by donors for survivors and relatives of the victims.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the IRS is involved in holding up the ability to provide the funds in a timely manner, but I don't see why they didn't set up a way to distribute it like the attorney who handled 9/11,the Virginia Tech shooting, Aurora CO shooting and other recent disasters. He said he'd try to get th e money distributed as efficiently as possible and within 60 days. Why couldn't they do this with this money??

Unfortunately it also sounds like this foundation is reallocating money to other funds/disasters and memorials that have nothing to do with the OK City bombing and the victims and this is wrong. The donors intended the money go to the survivors and relatives of the victms yet why are they reallocating to other organizations?

"In 2005 the Oklahoma City Community Foundation decided to reallocate nearly $4.5 million away from the survivors to a variety of causes including the Oklahoma City National Memorial, other communities hit by disasters and future research on disaster relief."

Are these people government workers or what??

In Press Conference, President Obama Talks About Moving Forward Despite Sequester | The White House | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it
Speaking in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room, President Obama vowed that he would continue working with Congress in the coming weeks to find compromise on a balanced approach to replacing these harmful budget cuts.
littlebytesnews's insight:

Obama is full of it...now he says there won't be an apolocoplyse with the sequester but the past few weeks all he and his cohorts have been doing is going around yelling the 'sky is falling down' if the sequester cuts go through. What a moron...I think his biggest fear was if the cuts went through and nobody noticed, but of course he and DHS are making sure we notice by letting illegal aliens out of prison, along with planning cuts to our military and national security rather than cut wasteful spending. Grrr..what a moron!

littlebytesnews's insight:

Yet Obamacare is expected to cost more than predicted and already causing insurance premiums to go up, but also cause employers to cut hours or let people go so they can afford the coverage or pay the fine if they don't implement Obamacare. Other companies and organizations are going with their own health care plans subsidized by stop gap insurance, or a type of employer libaility insurance, which allows employers to provide their own health care plan and cover those they deem eligible without going through Obamacare or an independent insurance company.

A list of tax hikes and fees coming under Obamacare:

In addition, Obamacare promised to cover those with pre-existing conditions, however those who aren't already covered by Obamacare will not get coverage due to lack of funding:

Budget impasse could affect Dallas’ JFK commemoration, scrap flyover by Blue Angels

Budget impasse could affect Dallas’ JFK commemoration, scrap flyover by Blue Angels | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it
The current fight in Washington over $85 billion in budget cuts could have some odd consequences -- affecting, among many other things, Dallas' official commemoration next November of the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination.
littlebytesnews's insight:

While this is ashame, we must make cuts to our budget to stop the bleeding in DC. Our country is $16 Trillion in debt and Obama will add another $3+Trillion debt to it on top of last years $6 Trillion spending spree. Yet, he is whining about slowing the debt by about 2% even though we will still spend more than 2012.

Maybe the cities and towns that profit from these air shows can charge for them to come or find donors or sponsors to have them come and raise revenue for those cities and towns who have an increase in visitors during these flyover events.

Obama Signals He’d Let Cuts Stand to Avoid U.S. Shutdown

Obama Signals He’d Let Cuts Stand to Avoid U.S. Shutdown | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it
As a deal to break a budget impasse failed to emerge on Friday, President Obama indicated he was open to letting automatic cuts stay in place to avoid a clash that could halt the government later in March.
littlebytesnews's insight:

There wouldn't be a threat of 'shutdown' if Obama would stop playing games with the GOP House and get the do nothing, obstructionist Senate to pass a balanced budget! They have failed to pass one the past four years and counting...this is NO way to run a country, let alone a super power unless you want to destroy it!

Obama invested in the sequester plan in 2011 when he formed a committee to find a way to cut the deficit with a "balanced" plan. Problem was...the bi-partisan committee came up with a Plan that America all had already figured out...CUT spending and a modest tax hike...a COMPROMISE for Conservatives who were sworn in to fight ALL tax increases. BUT...Obama did not like the cuts so he ignored his own committee and allowed this to stagnate for 2 years until now...and with the help of a corrupt media...he now blames the entire fiasco on Conservatives...A LIE. Bob Woodward called his lie out...and now he's become a target....of Chicago thug politics.

littlebytesnews's insight:

The country has not evolved on same sex marriage...even CA a liberal state, one of the most liberal states in the country voted against same sex marriage when they voted for Proposition 8. Now Obama and the media are going around trying to make it appear as though the country believes in same sex marriage. Marriage is a religious sacrament that should have nothing to do with the federal government. They can recognize marriage of same sex couples as civil unions but they can't redefine marriage. Marriage is and has always been between one man and one woman. It should be up to individual businesses if they want to offer benefits to those living in same sex relationships. It should not be up to the federal government to dictate to private business owners how they run their business and who they provide benefits to.
