A photo of Kim Jong Un appears to show that North Korea is targeting Texan hipsters.
littlebytesnews's insight:

I doubt they have a missile that could reach that far, especially with any accuracy. But these threats are becoming more bold and realistic. I hope the Obama administration is taking these threats seriously and has some plan in action to stop any missile threats that could threaten US troops in SK, or the US. I especially hope they have a way to prevent any sorty of EMP attack otherwise our electric grids and entire infrastructure will be ruined leaving us in the dark ages for years. The US should at least target their infrastructure with an EMP attack if not a nuclear attack should any threat of war escalates or any attack occur here or against our allies in SK.

#HashtagsAreUseless?? Probably, but worthwhile if you want something to trend.

#HashtagsAreUseless?? Probably, but worthwhile if you want something to trend. | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it
Hashtags are, in one sense, incredibly popular—and that's also why they're incredibly useless, argues Daniel Victor at the Nieman Journalism Lab . Victor assumes that if you, say, put "#SuperBowl"...
littlebytesnews's insight:

I use hashtags in my tweets to guide people in the context of what I'm tweeting towards certain groups. Unfortunately my profile has been censored from twitter search and hashtags for a couple years, but thankfully I have grown a loyal enough following that my tweets/message is getting out there and my tweets are being shared and others can see/find my tweets through those hashtags as long as they are shared.

Hashtags on twitter were originally meant to help people follow a topic or conversation by topic or a group such as #tcot which represents the largest political movement on twitter, "the top conservatives on twitter". Others use hashtags to create trends and draw attention to a topic or controversial issue or political agenda that needs public attention and action.

I continue to use hashtags in my tweets for those reasons, despite being censored from search but because it gives people who follow me an idea on what topics I am sharing about and gives others who come across my tweets a chance to choose to follow my tweets based on my hashtags when my tweets are shared with others.

In other cases hashtags aren't that useful unless you use them to follow a specific topic and you get enough people to make it trend and draw public attention to them. Twitter has since censored commonly used hashtags like #tcot, otherwise it would be trending everyday. So trending hashtags can be useful if you can get enough participants to share it during a certain time frame, but if it is used daily Twitter will censor it from the trending topics and it will become almost irrelevant to what's trending on twitter.

Anyway, to use or not to use the hashtag really depends on the user and the purpose of the hashtag, if you want something to trend for a short period of time, use it. If not it may not be that helpful, but can help those who do searches based on topics and follow tweets based on hashtags. Otherwise hashtags take up space out of the 140 characters users are given to share their message and you must make your post even more brief in order to get the message out.

Therefore, when getting the message out is more important than getting something to trend or less important than your desire to reach a certain group like #tcot, then it doesn't really matter if you use a hashtag or not because people can always find your tweet if they do a search on a certain topic regardless of hashtags, but that's if you haven't been censored from hashtags and twitter search like I have. :(

As a result, I count on others to reshare my tweets and loyal followers to see my posts and reshare them, otherwise I'm just ranting and raving to myself or sharing the news to whoever might come across something interesting in my timeline. I do wish I could find a way to get my tweets to show up in search again, but I have since given up after over two years of no response or action from twitter. :(

As many have found on Facebook, Twitter also tends to lean left and many Conservatives have found themselves censored or suspended on twitter more often than others and this is the only reason I can conclude my posts have been censored from hashtags. Although there are other Conservatives who still show up in search and hashtags who post as often or more often than me, but have a larger following. So perhaps depending how many followers you have also makes a difference in how they prioritize who gets censored or not.

Update:South Korean intelligence agencies have spotted increased activity on North Korean mid-to-long range missile platforms -NK Photo Reveals ‘U.S. Mainland Strike Plan’ | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it

Breaking North Korea News, Opinion, Culture & Curiosities + Professional, Academic & Student resources on North Korea / DPRK

UPDATE 1449KST: South Korean intelligence agencies have spotted increased activity on North Korean mid-to-long range missile platforms, an unnamed official told Yonhap in Seoul: “We are closely watching for  the possibility of a missile launch,” the anonymous government source said.

SEOUL – Kim Jong Un signed off on a plan to ready his forces to target the U.S. mainland and American bases in East Asia following yesterday’s U.S.-led B-2 stealth bomber runs, the KCNA reported after the North Korean military conveyed an “emergency meeting” in the early hours of this morning.

In a photo published in the Korea Worker’s Party (KWP) paper the Rodong, plans for a strike on the U.S. mainland are clearly –and therefore probably deliberately– visible. The newspaper is widely distributed in cities, and often displayed in public places for easy viewing.

“He finally signed the plan on technical preparations of strategic rockets, ordering them to be on standby to fire so that they may strike any time the U.S. mainland, its military bases in the operational theaters in the Pacific, including Hawaii and Guam, and those in south Korea,” a KCNA report in English said.

In the below photos, Kim Jong Un can be seen in what appears to be a military command room, signing the ready order.

littlebytesnews's insight:

I have my doubts, but believe they are dreaming of what they want to do. They don't have the capability to attack the US but also why would they post pictures with maps of intended targets and share them on the Internet?? LOL

Honduran Cops, The Latest U.S.-Backed Killers

by NICK ALEXANDROV

Official U.S. support for bands of killers dates back to the nation’s inception, likely one reason H. Rap Brown called violence “as American as cherry pie.” The country’s founding father helped start the trend when he sent General John Sullivan to Iroquois territory in 1779, giving him explicit instructions “that the country may not be merely overrun, but destroyed.” “It will be essential to ruin their crops,” the Town Destroyer—as Washington became known—emphasized. Sullivan and his men brought their adventure to a close when they “skinned the bodies of Indians from the hips downward, to make boot tops or leggings,” historian Ernest Cruikshank wrote in the late 1800s, prompting a contemporary, John Watts de Peyster, to wonder “which were the savages, the Continental troops or the Indians,” in the situation just described.

Scholars today tend to remark only that Washington seems “more a monument than a man,” as Gordon Wood never tires of pointing out; Wood spoke a month ago at an event celebrating Washington’s birthday, beginning with the premise that the first U.S. president was great, and proceeding from there. Bertrand Russell once criticized medieval philosophy for assuming in advance it knew the truth, thereby avoiding genuine inquiry—still apparently a prerequisite for academic success, given Wood’s reputation.

The belief that indigenous groups wasted the opportunities the land provided drove policies of dispossession and extermination, the latter being the term Jefferson, Jackson, and other luminaries favored. Little wonder Hitler admired this facet of U.S. history. During the California Gold Rush, whites murdered and raped the region’s native inhabitants, some of whom had known there was gold in the area, without valuing it as an exploitable resource. What could the land’s rightful owners do with such people? “Why not annihilation?” Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum asked in an 1890 editorial, capturing the zeitgeist.

These assumptions about the right to control territories, and the obstacles blocking enlightened developers from achieving their aims, grew more expansive after the Native American genocide. As WWII drew to a close, U.S. planners outlined a system of “foreign missions throughout the world” in conformity with corporate aims. “We are colonizing to some extent,” Representative Eugene Worley (D-TX) affirmed, not quite doing justice to Washington’s plans to copy the British imperial model—“a good goal to shoot at, because they are the masters,” the American Maritime Council’s John E. Otterson argued, voicing views his audience, a House subcommittee, received well. After listening to Assistant Secretary of State Adolf Berle’s 1943 discussion of U.S. intentions to govern the planet’s skies, Representative Charles A. Eaton (R-NJ) asked him to “define for us the difference in principle between Mr. Hitler’s program to obtain control of all land and all peoples and all oceans and seas, and the proposed program now for America to obtain control of all the air on earth[.]”

One of Eaton’s colleagues clarified the distinction: the U.S. sought “world power as trustee for civilization,” while Hitler wanted it merely “for the benefit of a bunch of Nazi gangsters.” Any student of U.S. history should have been able to recognize the country’s pure intentions—and if, for some reason, the examples of Town Destroyer and the Gold Rush proved unpersuasive, the coming decades would further testify to its benevolence. In 1976, we see that Secretary of State Kissinger encouraged the Argentine government to carry on with its dirty war, in which the military “disappeared” as many as 30,000 people. “The quicker you succeed the better,” the Nobel Peace Laureate stressed, and by the late ’70s the CIA was bringing Argentine officers into Honduras, so they could teach their Central American counterparts what they had mastered.

Doris Rosibel Benavides Tarrius, a young psychologist, experienced first-hand the Honduran students’ aptitude. Security forces abducted her in March 1987, taking her to a facility where they raped her, and strung her up on a metal bar to shock her feet and breasts, in what was called an “airplane position.” A decade earlier, an Argentine mechanic named Marcos Queipo watched as military planes passed over the Paraná Delta, dropping mysterious packages that plummeted to the riverbanks far below. Horacio Verbitsky, an investigative journalist, learned about these flights years later, when a stranger approached him in the Buenos Aires subway. “I want to talk to you,” the man said, explaining he had helped prosecute the dirty war. “You’ll see that we did things worse than the Nazis,” Adolfo Scilingo continued, subsequently telling of how he pushed several thousand suspected subversives, each drugged into a stupor but still alive, out of airplanes. Queipo saw some of their bodies in the packages he opened, though most of the murdered have never been found.

The killings continue in Honduras, where violence targeting lawyers, human rights defenders, LGBT people, women and others has intensified since the June 2009 coup. Two School of the Americas graduates helped topple the democratically-elected leader that month, and Obama supported the ensuing presidential election, a farce the mainstream media would have ridiculed had it taken place in, say, Venezuela. Last fall, the Honduran Commission of Truth identified several patterns of repression endangering the public, which the World Bank never mentions in the summary of its “Safe Municipalities Project,” ostensibly aimed at promoting “citizen security.” One of the Bank’s real goals seems to be expanding the Honduran police’s reach into areas like Choloma—“a dustbin industrial mecca for maquiladoras,” as scholar-activist Adrienne Pine described it. Juan Carlos Bonilla, accused of extrajudicial killings, oversees the entire Honduran National Police, even though the State Department tried to claim otherwise, saying it directed U.S. funds only to vetted units outside his purview.

littlebytesnews's insight:

I know there are many on the left, like Obama, who believe the US has oppressed other countries and some liberal educators are teaching this in history classes and teaching students that US policy is the reason Muslim terrorists and others hate America. Yet they fail to see the good we have done as a country and around the world, as millions want to immigrate here every year and many come here illegally paying human traffickers to bring them here or sneaking across our borders.

No Surprise...More Reason To Be Selective-Poll: 138 Million People Want To Move To US http://sco.lt/94vQJt

If the US is such a horrible country why do so many people want to live here? Why do those who claim to hate us and call themselves Americans continue to live here??

I'm not a historian but this essay at "Counterpunch'' sounds rather anti-American. While I don't believe the US should police the world, we do have to maintain a status of power otherwise the void will be filled by countries like Communist China, Russia, or others who do not have the best interests of human rights and freedom in mind. How much of this essay is factual to you??

Autopsy shows adopted Russian child suffered repeated bruises before death

Autopsy shows adopted Russian child suffered repeated bruises before death | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it
The autopsy report of a three-year-old Russian boy adopted by a Texan couple concludes that the child had more than 30 bruises on his body as well as other signs that he was routinely injured.

The medical document released to the Odessa American suggests that the foster family, who have also adopted the victim’s brother, were struggling to provide proper care for Maksim Shatto but examiners believe that the injuries were due to self-injury stemming from a serious mental condition.

The medical examiner found abrasions, scrapes and bruises on the boy’s body.

Max’s adoptive father has said that the boy was constantly hitting his head at home and had serious behavioural issues.

The anti-psychotic drug Risperidone was prescribed to the boy, but the boy stopped taking the medication four days after the parents read about the side effects.

The mother had previously told the authorities that Maksim used to claw himself, which she tried to prevent by cutting his nails short and having him wear gloves at night.

The boy, born Maksim Kuzmin, died January 21 after his adoptive mother Laura Shatto found him unresponsive outside their home in Gardendale, Texas.

Last week US prosecutors said that no charges would be made in the case due to lack of evidence.

littlebytesnews's insight:

While this video discusses the regulatory burdens the Federal Government places on individual property owners and businesses, another group of people are also victims of the government:

American Indians are victims of the federal government. They are impoverished, lack quality health care, lack quality education and growth opportunities and many are addicted to alcohol. Learn more about the plight and suffering of American Indians and their children by checking out @KidsDyingOnRez's timeline timeline on the Indian Child Welfare Act.

Other victims of the federal government are those slaughtered each day because of legalized abortion. At least 3,000 human beings are dismembered in their mother's wombs each day in the US.

How many more families and lives have to suffer because of government regulations and laws that deny individuals their rights to life, liberty and property??

"The gunman is not in custody and is moving through the neighborhood. This is a very dangerous situation for your staff, citizens in the area, and first responders," the alert read.

Moments after the 911 calls were made, a cadre of police and sheriff's deputies swarmed the area and began a door-to-door search for the gunman.

At 4:30 p.m., deputies announced they had located the man inside his own home. The man, who is refusing to come out, is believed to be heavily armed with high-powered weapons, according to Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer.

Hopefully it ends peacefully and nobody is harmed or injured. It doesn't sound like he shot at anyone or killed anyone at this time. Hopefully things stay that way and he is taken into custody, but if anyone goes down hopefully it's him rather than the police.

Notorious YouTube gun enthusiast Kyle Myers raided by nearly 40 federal agents | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it
Nearly 40 government agents raided the home of popular YouTube gun enthusiast Kyle Myers, 26, well known for shooting and blowing up inanimate objects on video.

The Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms said Myers could be in violation of federal law for making money via YouTube for his use of explosivesThe ATF would not comment on whether the raid stemmed from the investigation into Ratliff's mysterious death

Nearly 40 government agents raided the home of popular online gun enthusiast Kyle Myers, 26, well known for shooting and blowing up inanimate objects on his YouTube channel FPS Russia.

The armed authorities with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and state and county law enforcement agencies showed up at Myers' home office in Carnesville, Georgia, as well as his father's home in Lavonia on Tuesday, three months after the unexplained death of Myers' business partner, Keith Ratliff.

The agents were hunting for explosives like the ones featured in Myers' YouTube videos, which they believe the Internet celebrity was using as a sales platform.

ATF spokesman Richard Coes told the Athens Banner-Herald that Myers could be in violation of federal law for making money via YouTube for his lively display of explosives at use.

Coes noted that if a person is going to sell, distribute or use explosives for business purposes, they need a federal explosives manufacturing license.

He told the Banner-Herald that no arrests were made during the raids that took place at Myers’ home and his father's 60-acre ranch.

No firearms were reportedly seized, but Coes said he was unsure if any explosives were taken from either property.

There is an ongoing investigation into the death of Myers’ business partner Ratliff, 32, who was found with a single bullet wound to the head at his business office in Carnesville, where he lived, on January 3.

His corpse was reportedly surrounded by several guns, but not the gun that killed him, according to news reports at the time of his death.

littlebytesnews's insight:

What gave them the rights to invade his privacy and violate his second amendment rights?? Did they even have a warrant?

They didn't seize any weapons or explosives so what was the point other than harrassment?? The death of his business partner is suspicious to say the least following the death of at least two other well known gun enthusisasts, including Chris Kyle, the American Navy SEAL Sniper who was murdered at a gun range by a disturbed veteran he was trying to mentor.

How is he making money off his Youtube videos?? As far as I know you can't make money by putting videos on Youtube? Youtube is a free service, you don't have to pay to view what the public posts...so I am not sure how they can claim he is making money off his educational and instructional videos. They claim he uses explosives that require a license, but it says he was business partners with Ratliff who had a license by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, authorities said.

The FPS videos, which star Myers often speaking in a fake Russian accent, became popular for their distinct blend of humor and heavy weaponry.

Video: An Eagle Named Freedom and A Message of Hope--Good Friday Blessings and Happy Easter!

In the tradition of A Lion Called Christian and Alex and Me comes An Eagle Named Freedom, Jeff Guidry's story of rehabilitating an eagle named Freedom back to health—and how that amazing eagle later inspired the author to triumph over cancer.
littlebytesnews's insight:

Amazing and inspiring story, I'm surprised I haven't seen or heard it until today, but it has been making the rounds through emails and online since at least 2008...It appears God is working through Freedom and her name is perfect, but perhaps it is also a prophetic story about America...if we believe like Jeff and Freedom then perhaps there is still hope left for America to heal and overcome the downward spiral we are on, with God anything is possible...as long as enough still believe!

Never give up hope, freedom and traditional values that created this great country...those that were endowed by our Creator.

Happy Easter and Good Friday Blessings as we await the coming of our Savior: Jesus Christ, The Father, and The Holy Spirit!

For those who doubt this story:

This is the kind of story you need when it seems like the world is spiraling out of control…..

Not many people get a picture of this proud bird
snuggled up next to them!

Freedom and Jeff

Freedom and I have been together 11 years this summer.
She came in as a baby in 1998 with two broken wings.
Her left wing doesn't open all the way even after surgery,
it was broken in 4 places.
She's my baby.

When Freedom came in she could not stand
and both wings were broken. She was
emaciated and covered in lice. We made the
decision to give her a chance at life, so I took
her to the vet's office. From then
on, I was always around her. We had her in a
huge dog carrier with the top off, and it
was loaded up with shredded newspaper for her to
lay in. I used to sit and talk to her,
urging her to live, to fight; and she would lay
there looking at me with those big brown eyes.
We also had to tube feed her for weeks.

This went on for 4-6 weeks, and by then she still
couldn't stand. It got to the point where the
decision was made to euthanize her
if she couldn't stand in a week. You know you don't
want to cross that line between torture and
rehab, and it looked like death was
winning. She was going to be put
down that Friday, and I was supposed to come in
on that Thursday afternoon. I didn't want to go
to the center that Thursday, because I couldn't
bear the thought of her being euthanized;
but I went anyway, and when I walked in everyone
was grinning from ear to ear. I went
immediately back to her cage; and there she was,
standing on her own, a big beautiful
eagle. She was ready to live. I was
just about in tears by then. That
was a very good day.

We knew she could never fly, so the director
asked me to glove train her.
I got her used to the glove,
and then to jesses, and we started
doing education programs for schools
in western Washington .
We wound up in the newspapers,
radio (believe it or not) and some
TV. Miracle Pets even did a show
about us.

In the spring of 2000, I was diagnosed with
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. I had stage 3,
which is not good (one major organ plus
everywhere), so I wound up doing 8 months of
chemo. Lost the hair - the whole
bit. I missed a lot of work. When I
felt good enough, I would go to Sarvey
and take Freedom out for walks. Freedom would
also come to me in my dreams and help me fight
the cancer. This happened time and time again.

Fast forward to November 2000

The day after Thanksgiving,
I went in for my last checkup.
I was told that if the cancer was not
all gone after 8 rounds of chemo, then my last
option was a stem cell transplant. Anyway, they
did the tests; and I had to come back Monday for
the results. I went in Monday, and I was
told that all the cancer was gone.

So the first thing I did was get up to Sarvey and
take the big girl out for a walk. It was misty
and cold. I went to her flight and jessed her
up, and we went out front to the top of the
hill. I hadn't said a word to
Freedom, but somehow she knew. She looked at me
and wrapped both
her wings around me to where I
could feel them pressing in on my back
(I was engulfed in eagle wings), and she
touched my nose with her beak and stared into my
eyes, and we just stood there like that
for I don't know how long . That was a
magic moment. We have been soul mates ever
since she came in. This is a very special bird.

On a side note: I have had people who
were sick come up to us when we are out, and
Freedom has some kind of hold on
them. I once had a guy who was
terminal come up to us and
I let him hold her.
His knees just about buckled and he
swore he could feel her power course through his
body. I have so many stories like that..

I never forget the honor I have of being so close
to such a magnificent spirit as
Freedom.

Hope you enjoyed this!
Cancer is a strange cell.
You can go along for years in remission
and then one day it pops its head up again.
If you ever have it you will never be free of it.

A SMALL REQUEST...

93% won't forward, but I'm Sure You Will.

A small request.....Just one line
All you are asked to do is keep this circulating.
Even if it's only to one more person.
In memory of anyone you know who has been
struck down by cancer or is still living with it
Or just someone who enjoys a GREAT STORY

Freedom's Birthday Bash
by Jeff Guidry

Freedom

This little story just goes to show the old adage is true, "always expect the unexpected." This is especially true with elementary school kids. I was scheduled to give an Eagle program at a elementary school by Arlington Wa. It was late April and just a beautiful day, so we decided to have our show outside. The kids were sitting in the stands by the athletic field. As I spoke about Freedom and her brethren it quickly turned into a question and answer sort of thing. (Roll with the punches, you know) We were about twenty minutes into the program when I called on this young lady in the back row who had her hand up. She asked the most innocent question, "when is Freedom's birthday?" Without thinking I replied, "today is her birthday." In this latitude Eagles are born April-May, so I thought we were done with that. NOOOO...not by a long shot. Before I could move on this same young lady then asked, "can we sing happy birthday to Freedom?" I replied "sure we can, right after we finish with the questions." We continue on for another ten minutes and came to the end of our time. I asked the gathering of about forty kids if they still wanted to sing happy birthday to Freedom, it was a resounding YES! I told them we'll all sing together starting on the count of three. It was at this point our young lady in the back row took over, she jumped clear out of her seat, and with all the authority of an experienced band leader shouted..."ONE...TWO...THREE!" Every kid there joined in as we started singing happy birthday to Freedom. Half way through the song I shouted.." LOUDER!!" Boy, did I get "LOUDER". They all were screaming at the top of their lungs "happy birthday to Freedom, happy birthday to you". The teachers were stunned, just standing there with their mouths hanging open while the crescendo built. Freedom, regal as always, was soaking up the limelight. Right at the end of the song the same young lady who started this whole thing jumped straight into the air, pumping her fist and let loose a monstrous...YEAH!!! A grand time was had by all, (especially our young leader in the back row). I will never forget Freedom's Birthday Bash. Jeff Guidry

Gov’t Moves to Give Children Deadly Anthrax Vaccine Or Not??

Gov’t Moves to Give Children Deadly Anthrax Vaccine Or Not?? | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it

March 19, 2013
The Presidential Ethics Committee for the Study of Bioethical Issues has not left the testing of a potentially deadly anthrax vaccine on children off the table, according to a report released today.

“The Bioethics Commission concluded that before ethical pre-event pediatric AVA trials can be considered, further steps must be taken, including additional minimal risk research with adult participants, in order to determine whether the research risks to children—who do not stand to benefit directly from it—can be reduced to a level that poses no substantial risk to their health or well-being,” stated the report titled, “Safeguarding Children: Pediatric Medical Countermeasure Research.”

The report was in response to a 2012 letter from U.S Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius asking to review recommendations from the HHS’s National Biodefense Science Board (NBSB) which advised to “gather safety and immunogenicity data about AVA PEP in children prior to an anthrax event, rather than during a future crisis when the vaccine may be needed.”

“To address this issue, and the broader question of how best to obtain clinical data on medical countermeasures in children,” Sebelius’ letter, stated, “I ask you, as the Chair of the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues, to convene a panel to conduct a thorough review of the ethical considerations of conducting clinical trials of medical countermeasures in children.”

Speaking of the “common good” value of using children as guinea pigs, commission chair of the presidential commission Amy Gutmann reportedly stated, “There is something to be gained by going ahead with research on children. There is a common good to be gained in being prepared.”

Dr. John Parker, a retired army major general and chairman of the biodefense board, described to Reuters how potential testing on children might go. “You’d work your way down from 18-year-olds. If it were safe you’d go to 17-year-olds, then 16-year olds.” After each round showing minimal harm, “you’d ask permission to move on to younger children.”

The controversial government proposal is coming under fire for obvious reasons, not the least of which is the questionable necessity of developing a vaccine for an attack that may never occur.

The vaccine also carries a history of being blamed for the deaths of soldiers.

The death of 22-year-old Rachel Lacy, an Army specialist, was tied to the series of vaccines she received prior to deployment, including the anthrax and smallpox vaccines. Lacy developed pneumonia shortly after the innoculations and died at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn in 2003.

“Minnesota coroner Eric Pfeifer told the paper the smallpox and anthrax vaccines ‘may have’ contributed to her death,” reported WND in August 2003, and seven months after the death, a special team of medical and vaccine experts was assembled by the government, ruling her death a “possible” or “probable” result of the vaccinations.

During a 2003 investigation into a high pneumonia rate among soldiers, the Pentagon denied the vaccines were the causes of death for Army Spc. Joshua M. Neusche, 20, and Army Sgt.Michael L. Tosto, 24, each of whom died following similar, mysterious pneumonia-like illnesses and breathing problems.

According to a UPI Investigations report, “At least two more soldiers deployed to Iraq died with fluid in their lungs, according to their families; one of those was found dead in his cot. The Pentagon has not released any information on two more soldiers found dead in Iraq under similar circumstances. In a fifth case, a 20-year-old died after what the Pentagon said were “breathing difficulties” and his mother has said she wants more information.”

The report goes on, “At least two more soldiers died after experiencing chest pain, including the Aug. 27 death of 43-year-old Lt. Col Anthony L. Sherman, who competed in triathlons and marathons. ‘The only thing they had to tell me was severe myocardial infarction,’ said his wife, Lisa Ann, from Pottstown, Pa. ‘In my heart of hearts, I believe there was more to it than just a heart attack. He was in too good of shape.’”

In May 2003, four British soldiers sued the Ministry of Defense following bouts of Gulf War Syndrome-like issues, including depression, breathing problems and eczema, which they say stemmed from “vaccine overload.” The soldiers reportedly received multiple jabs of the anthrax vaccine in one day before falling ill. Rebecca Mowling of The Evening Standardreported that, as a result, 45,000 British soldiers subsequently refused the vaccine.

In addition, a the following warning regarding the BioThrax vaccine, of which there were $215.9 million in sales last year, appeared in a 2002 report on the FDA’s own website suggesting the vaccine “may be linked with an increase in the number of birth defects” in a retrospective study conducted on infants born to women in the military who had received the vaccine.

Preliminary results of a recent unpublished retrospective study of infants born to women in the U.S. military service worldwide in 1998 and 1999 suggest that the vaccine may be linked with an increase in the number of birth defects when given during pregnancy (unpublished data, Department of Defense). Although these data are unconfirmed, pregnant women should not be vaccinated against anthrax unless the potential benefits of vaccination have been determined to outweigh the potential risk to the fetus.”

littlebytesnews's insight:

Obama is allowing anthrax testing on children, http://beforeitsnews.com/alternative/2013/03/govt-moves-to-give-children-deadly-vaccine-2597654.html ;

but now claim it's not true, after the media uproar ... http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/fieldclinic/Media-confusion-reigns-over-testing-Anthrax-vaccine-in-children.html

The report, however, released on Tuesday by the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues, said researchers would have to overcome numerous hurdles before launching an anthrax-vaccine trial in children. It now goes to Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, who will decide whether to take the steps the commission recommended.

The one anthrax vaccine approved in the United States, called BioThrax, is made by Emergent BioSolutions Inc of Rockville, Maryland. The company reported $215.9 million in sales of BioThrax, its only licensed product, in 2012.

The ethics commission took up the issue after a biodefense panel recommended in 2011 that the anthrax vaccine be tested in children. That endorsement, by the National Biodefense Science Board, came with the caveat that such a study also get the go-ahead from a bioethics panel.

More from Philly News:

Last week, a presidential bioethics commission led by University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann declared that the vaccine against anthrax should not be tested in children until its safety it better understood. Amazingly, several press reports had the Commission saying just the opposite. Bioethics seems to have left some in the media quite perplexed.

The Commission, formally known as the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues, concluded that it is unethical for researchers to expose children to anything more than “minimal risk”, unless they can directly benefit from the research. As a result, until we better understand the anthrax vaccine’s potential for harm, testing in children should be off limits. (Click here to read the full report.)

Why would we even consider conducting such a test? The answer dates back to 2011, when a military exercise code-named Dark Zephyr simulated the effects of an anthrax attack on San Francisco. It estimated that the assault could affect 8 million people, nearly a quarter of whom would be children.

Current bioterrorism response plans call for widespread vaccination of civilian populations. But without knowing how children would react, planners have no way to decide whether to include them. A government advisory panel known as the National Biodefense Science Board recommended that we try to find an answer before an attack takes place.

The anthrax vaccine was developed over 40 years ago for use in the military. More than a million members of the armed forces have taken it since then, and experts consider it generally safe. However, it has never been administered to children, who often react to medications differently than adults.

Last year, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius asked the Commission for advice on whether research to find an answer was ethical. Her charge was a broad one – to consider the ethics of conducting any pediatric research on countermeasures against a bioterrorist attack.

The Commission’s answer was clear. Unless we can be certain that the research poses no substantial risk to the health or wellbeing of child subjects, it should not done. And if the risk is anything more than minimal - what a child would routinely encounter in daily life or in a medical checkup - it must be subject to extensive national-level review.

How would we know whether the risk were small enough to permit testing? The Commission noted techniques that have been used to study other kinds of medical interventions in children but stopped short of recommending them. And it warned that no testing would be ethical without the full and free informed consent of the parents.

Most of media got the story right. It reported that the Commission’s recommendation would halt any testing of anthrax vaccine in children for the foreseeable future.

A range of headlines was on the mark. “Panel: Thumbs Down on Anthrax Vaccine Test in Kids” declared this website. The Washington Post proclaimed, “Ethics Panel Sets High Bar for Anthrax Vaccine Research in Children.” And a report on NPR was titled “Bioethics Panel Warns Against Anthrax Vaccine Testing On Kids.”

But others were surprisingly misleading. “Panel Urges Limited Tests of Anthrax Vaccine in Kids” was the headline in USA Today. A story on Reuters was headed “Test of Anthrax Vaccine in Children Gets Tentative OK.” And a report on US News Health ran under the heading “Bioethics Panel Gives Cautious OK to Testing Anthrax Vaccine in Kids.”

What bothers me about this topic is that the gov't waited over a decade (9/11 anthrax letters) to decide that this might be a good idea. There has been a high amount of criticism on this topic, some just, some naïve, but the bottom line is that children would not be "guinea pigs." The proposed action includes testing of adults (which has occurred already), and essentially working downhill towards young children; i.e. testing adults --> young adults --> adolescents --> children. The would no testing on young children without proper documentation and testing on older-aged groups first. Bioterrorism, and specifically anthrax-related attacks, are tangible events. We need to start thinking in terms of prophylaxis instead of taking after an event, which is what the U.S. typically does. If a child anthrax vaccine can help in any way, I believe that the benefit of protection far outweighs the risk of potential reactions (which SHOULD be low when the time comes to test the vaccine on children). In closing, think about this: inhalation anthrax, while rare, would be ideal for a bioterrorism attack and accounts for roughly a 75% mortality rate. Cutaneous anthrax, much more probable, has a 20% mortality rate w/o antibiotic treatment. In the event that anthrax is utilized as a bioterrorism attack, aerosolized anthrax would be an ideal weapon to begin with, and if the attack is widespread enough and causes cutaneous anthrax, antibiotics will surely be depleted quickly. Can we really sit back and let this happen, knowing that a vaccine could have been administered and saved countless lives?

It's not as if smoking isn't killing. I'm all for killing businesses that privatize profits while socializing losses/costs. In 2000 economists estimated the "real" cost of a pack so smokes to be $40.00. This price includes the cost to society in early death, fires, accidents (driving while lighting up), etc. Society picks up the cost of these externalities. Socialism at its worst.

Loughner's parents and friends watched a change they couldn't control

Loughner's parents and friends watched a change they couldn't control | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it
The picture that is known so well to so many is of a stranger to those who knew Jared Loughner.

An interview by investigators with Anthony Kuck, who said that he knew Loughner since preschool, said, "I just know his personality is not normal," and, "(h)e's obviously got some problems.  He shaved his head."

Kuck even tried to get Loughner to change direction.

"I didn't really talk to him much," he told detectives.  "But, when I did, I was trying to give him positive.  But, obviously, he's, couldn't stop him.  He, uh, had some, I don't know what kind of grudge he would have against Gabrielle Giffords.  I don't even know if he knows politics about her."

Kuck told investigators he last saw Loughner about three weeks before the shooting, when Loughner brought the Glock with an extended clip to Kuck's house near the U of A.

"I kicked him out of the house because he showed me his gun," he said.  "I did not care to see that.  I did not want to know.  I didn't.  I was like, ‘why the hell do you have this?'  He's all 'protection'. "

Kuck did receive a brief voicemail from Loughner late one night before the shooting.  "But all he said, was, ‘hey, man, how you doing? What's up?' And that, I deleted it," Kuck said.

Someone who didn't delete his message was Bryce Tierney, who said that knew Loughner since middle school, and told investigators that Loughner "dropped out of contact with all my other friends, too, and he was just sort of getting, like a little, like, weird, like, in a dark way."

Tierney said Loughner would call from unknown numbers and act like he was someone else.  So, Tierney stopped answering.  And in the early morning hours before the shooting he received the voicemail:

"Hey.  It's, this is Jared.  Um, I had some very good times. And peace out.  Later."

By the time of the shooting, the Loughners knew their son had problems.  Just that morning his father tried unsuccessfully to confront Jared Loughner.

Amy Loughner described her son as a loner to investigators.  She said that he told his parents he tried cocaine and she knew that he used to drink but he said that he had not in five months.  She said they did a home drug test on him because, "My concern was like, meth or something.  Not knowing anything about meth.  But, because his behavior and his, was, um, odd.  I don't know."

She told investigators the test showed clean.  But over more than a year before the shooting she noticed him having conversations in his room as if someone was there.  She said that he was "just laughing or.  Uh, I don't know.  I didn't think.  I just thought it was odd."

Judge finds state terrorism statute constitutional against OWS Black Bloc group arrested at 2012 NATO summit

Judge finds state terrorism statute constitutional against OWS Black Bloc group arrested at 2012 NATO summit | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it
A Cook County judge presiding over a criminal case stemming from last year’s NATO summit in Chicago ruled today that the state's terrorism law is constitutional.

Judge Thaddeus Wilson said the legislature enacted the anti-terrorism statute in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks "due to the grave nature and global reach of terrorism." The law was on solid constitutional ground, he said.

Until Cook County prosecutors indicted Brian Church, Jared Chase and Brent Betterly with conspiracy to commit terrorism, the state terrorism statute had been used in only one previous prosecution in Illinois since being enacted a decade earlier.

Attorneys for the three argued the law’s definition of a terrorist act was so vague that it barred lawful conduct protected by the First Amendment such as labor protests or other acts of civil disobedience.

The law defines terrorism as “intent to intimidate or coerce a significant portion of a civilian population,” they wrote in a court filing seeking to dismiss the terrorism-related counts.

“The vague nature of the terms ‘coerce,’ ‘intimidate,’ and ‘significant portion of the civilian population’ allows for the arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement of the law,” the filing said.

Michael Deutsch, a lawyer for the People’s Law Office who represents Church, said the statute also allows police and prosecutors to “arbitrarily pick and choose” whom to charge with terrorism offenses.

Prosecutors have alleged the defendants are members of an anarchist group known as Black Bloc and intended to firebomb targets such as police stations, Mayor Rahm Emanuel's home and President Barack Obama's downtown re-election campaign headquarters last May.

littlebytesnews's insight:

That's what happens when you abuse your first amendment rights. Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can commit violence and intimidate people with threats and weapons.

Same-Sex Marriage Ten Years On: Lessons from Canada

Same-Sex Marriage Ten Years On: Lessons from Canada | Littlebytesnews Current Events | Scoop.it
The effects of same-sex civil marriage in Canada—restrictions on free speech rights, parental rights in education, and autonomy rights of religious institutions, along with a weakening of the marriage culture—provide lessons for the United States.

Would recognizing same-sex relationships as marriages be much of a game-changer? What impact, if any, would it have on the public conception of marriage or the state of a nation’s marriage culture?

There has been no shortage of speculation on these questions. But the limited American experience with same-sex marriage to date gives us few concrete answers. So it makes sense to consider the Canadian experience since the first Canadian court established same-sex marriage a decade ago. There are, of course, important cultural and institutional differences between the US and Canada and, as is the case in any polity, much depends upon the actions of local political and cultural actors. That is to say, it is not necessarily safe to assume that Canadian experiences will be replicated here. But they should be considered; the Canadian experience is the best available evidence of the short-term impact of same-sex marriage in a democratic society very much like America.

Anyone interested in assessing the impact of same-sex marriage on public life should investigate the outcomes in three spheres: first, human rights (including impacts on freedom of speech, parental rights in public education, and the autonomy of religious institutions); second, further developments in what sorts of relationships political society will be willing to recognize as a marriage (e.g., polygamy); and third, the social practice of marriage.

The Impact on Human Rights

The formal effect of the judicial decisions (and subsequent legislation) establishing same-sex civil marriage in Canada was simply that persons of the same-sex could now have the government recognize their relationships as marriages. But the legal and cultural effect was much broader. What transpired was the adoption of a new orthodoxy: that same-sex relationships are, in every way, the equivalent of traditional marriage, and that same-sex marriage must therefore be treated identically to traditional marriage in law and public life.

A corollary is that anyone who rejects the new orthodoxy must be acting on the basis of bigotry and animus toward gays and lesbians. Any statement of disagreement with same-sex civil marriage is thus considered a straightforward manifestation of hatred toward a minority sexual group. Any reasoned explanation (for example, those that were offered in legal arguments that same-sex marriage is incompatible with a conception of marriage that responds to the needs of the children of the marriage for stability, fidelity, and permanence—what is sometimes called the conjugal conception of marriage), is dismissed right away as mere pretext. 1

When one understands opposition to same-sex marriage as a manifestation of sheer bigotry and hatred, it becomes very hard to tolerate continued dissent. Thus it was in Canada that the terms of participation in public life changed very quickly. Civil marriage commissioners were the first to feel the hard edge of the new orthodoxy; several provinces refused to allow commissioners a right of conscience to refuse to preside over same-sex weddings, and demanded their resignations. 2 At the same time, religious organizations, such as the Knights of Columbus, were fined for refusing to rent their facilities for post-wedding celebrations. 3

The Right to Freedom of Expression

The new orthodoxy’s impact has not been limited to the relatively small number of persons at risk of being coerced into supporting or celebrating a same-sex marriage. The change has widely affected persons—including clergy—who wish to make public arguments about human sexuality.

Much speech that was permitted before same-sex marriage now carries risks. Many of those who have persisted in voicing their dissent have been subjected to investigations by human rights commissions and (in some cases) proceedings before human rights tribunals. Those who are poor, poorly educated, and without institutional affiliation have been particularly easy targets—anti-discrimination laws are not always applied evenly.  Some have been ordered to pay fines, make apologies, and undertake never to speak publicly on such matters again. 4 Targets have included individuals writing letters to the editors of local newspapers,5 and ministers of small congregations of Christians. 6 A Catholic bishop faced two complaints—both eventually withdrawn—prompted by comments he made in a pastoral letter about marriage. 7

Reviewing courts have begun to rein in the commissions and tribunals (particularly since some ill-advised proceedings against Mark Steyn and Maclean’s magazine in 2009), and restore a more capacious view of freedom of speech. And in response to the public outcry following the Steyn/Maclean’s affair, the Parliament of Canada recently revoked the Canadian Human Rights Commission’s statutory jurisdiction to pursue “hate speech.”

But the financial cost of fighting the human rights machine remains enormous—Maclean’s spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees, 8 none of which is recoverable from the commissions, tribunals, or complainants. And these cases can take up to a decade to resolve. An ordinary person with few resources who has drawn the attention of a human rights commission has no hope of appealing to the courts for relief; such a person can only accept the admonition of the commission, pay a (comparatively) small fine, and then observe the directive to remain forever silent. As long as these tools remain at the disposal of the commissions—for whom the new orthodoxy gives no theoretical basis to tolerate dissent—to engage in public discussion about same-sex marriage is to court ruin.

Similar pressure can be—and is—brought to bear on dissenters by professional governing bodies (such as bar associations, teachers’ colleges, and the like) that have statutory power to discipline members for conduct unbecoming of the profession. 9 Expressions of disagreement with the reasonableness of institutionalizing same-sex marriage are understood by these bodies to be acts of illegal discrimination, which are matters for professional censure.

Teachers are particularly at risk for disciplinary action, for even if they only make public statements criticizing same-sex marriage outside the classroom, they are still deemed to create a hostile environment for gay and lesbian students.10 Other workplaces and voluntary associations have adopted similar policies as a result of their having internalized this new orthodoxy that disagreement with same-sex marriage is illegal discrimination that must not be tolerated. 11

Parental Rights in Public Education

Institutionalizing same-sex marriage has subtly but pervasively changed parental rights in public education. The debate over how to cast same-sex marriage in the classroom is much like the debate over the place of sex education in schools, and of governmental pretensions to exercise primary authority over children. But sex education has always been a discrete matter, in the sense that by its nature it cannot permeate the entirety of the curriculum. Same-sex marriage is on a different footing.

Since one of the tenets of the new orthodoxy is that same-sex relationships deserve the same respect that we give marriage, its proponents have been remarkably successful in demanding that same-sex marriage be depicted positively in the classroom. Curriculum reforms in jurisdictions such as British Columbia now prevent parents from exercising their long-held veto power over contentious educational practices. 12

The new curricula are permeated by positive references to same-sex marriage, not just in one discipline but in all. Faced with this strategy of diffusion, the only parental defense is to remove one’s children from the public school system entirely. Courts have been unsympathetic to parental objections: if parents are clinging to outdated bigotries, then children must bear the burden of “cognitive dissonance”—they must absorb conflicting things from home and school while school tries to win out.

The reforms, of course, were not sold to the public as a matter of enforcing the new orthodoxy. Instead, the stated rationale was to prevent bullying; that is, to promote the acceptance of gay and lesbian youth and the children of same-sex households. 13

It is a laudable goal to encourage acceptance of persons. But whatever can be said for the objective, the means chosen to achieve it is a gross violation of the family. It is nothing less than the deliberate indoctrination of children (over the objections of their parents) into a conception of marriage that is fundamentally hostile to what the parents understand to be in their children’s best interests. It frustrates the ability of parents to lead their children to an understanding of marriage that will be conducive to their flourishing as adults. At a very early age, it teaches children that the underlying rationale of marriage is nothing other than the satisfaction of changeable adult desires for companionship.

Religious Institutions’ Right to Autonomy

At first glance, clergy and houses of worship appeared largely immune from coercion to condone or perform same-sex marriages. Indeed, this was the grand bargain of the same-sex marriage legislation—clergy would retain the right not to perform marriages that would violate their religious beliefs. Houses of worship could not be conscripted against the wishes of religious bodies. 14

I still say this whole argument is not about equality...because no matter what they get from us...they go after more... It's all about undermining our religious attachments because as long as our Judao/Christian bonds remain strong as with our country's foundation...then MArxism...Socialism...radical Islam...Sharia...these corruptions will not gain control of our society. But if we allow the Left to continue weakening and undermining our core religious beliefs...we will fall.... Every country in the world that has survived Communism or Marxism had to go through a period of destroying their religions...their faith in God had to be weakened and turned to a blind faith in government. That's how all tyrants achieved their goals and the Left is trying to achieve it here today....

I agree Tom, but how to stop it when you have Christians willing to sell their souls for votes and 'evolving' views because of pressure from the media, lobbyists, etc??

I believe that gays sho be able to marry if they choose and that God is compassionate enough to realise that it is ok

I don't understand why he would tweet this when he wrote a great piece defending religious liberty at RedState.com earlier...I hope he's not "evolving" too here is an excerpt:

‘Gay Marriage’ and Religious Freedom Are Not Compatible

The kids these days on the right are full of a great libertarian notion that “hey, let’s just get the government out of marriage.”

“Rock on,” say other libertarians.

They then all smugly self-congratulate themselves, pat themselves on the back, and move on to other issues.

What they ignore is that the left will never take marriage out of the hands of the government. The left cannot. But it goes beyond that. The left cannot take marriage out of government because for so long it has been government through which marriages were legitimized to the public and the left must also use government to silence those, particularly the religious, who refuse to play along.

Let’s ignore, for the sake of this post, that the Democracy of the Dead has settled for us that in society marriage should be between a man and woman as the best way to propagate the species.

The left has done an admirable job in secular society making the case that gay marriage merely allows a class of people to be happy and have what everyone else has.

The front on which the gay rights movement has failed is the religious and, in particular in the United States, the Christian front.

From Matthew 19:4-6:

“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

The Christian Left would prefer to view Matthew 19 as a passage on divorce, which is discussed. But they willfully ignore Christ’s definition of what a marriage is — one man and one woman united to become one.

As much as many would ignore, obfuscate, or try to confuse the beginning of Matthew 19, Christ makes it very clear. The Creator made a male and a female and the two become one. That is marriage in Christianity, despite what a bunch of progressive Christians who have no use for the Bible would have the world believe.

Therein lies the problem for the gay rights movement.

As long as there are still Christians who actually follow Christ and uphold his word, a vast amount of people around the world — never mind Islam — will never ever see gay marriage as anything other than a legal encroachment of God’s intent.

It appears Erick Erickson's analysis is contradictory to what he wrote when he was defending marriage as a union between one man and one woman because it is a religious sacrament and liberty, not one the government grants.

The role of the SCOTUS[Supreme Court], federal government and the states should be to protect our Constitutional rights, not limit them or alter their meaning. Marriage is a religious right that must be protected under our first amendment. Religious liberty gives us the right to practice our faith, whatever faith that is or isn't, based on Church doctrine and teaching not based on what the government wants or believes.

The Constitution and Bill of Rights protect our religious liberties and those who choose not to practice a religion by limiting the federal government from establishing a religion or denying individuals the right to practice whatever faith or non-denomination they choose. The Constitution does not give the federal government, nor the states the right to redefine those beliefs and limit our beliefs. For example, when the Federal government tries to impose laws such as Obamacare on us, which requires businesses and individuals to purchase a product or pay a tax/fine/mandate if we don't purchase that product or service then our freedoms are being limited.

Additionally, when we are also being forced to purchase something we may not need nor agree with when it comes to providing abortion, contraceptives and other controversial services or products, then our religious liberties/rights are being imposed on. Our liberties as American citizens are not limited by government but should be protected by the government. The role of the government, the legislature and courts is to protect our unalieanable right to life, liberty [including religious liberties] and our pursuit of happiness which includes our right to prosper, own our own property and to defend ourselves and our property. These are unalieanable rights, which means they are not given to us by government or any man, but are given to us or endowed by our Creator. Without the right to life, liberty and the ability to pursue happiness and prosper or own property we would be slaves to the state and limited to what rights and freedoms they believe we should have.

Therefore, to redefine marriage, which is a religious sacrament and liberty is to trample on the religious rights and beliefs of millions of practicing Christians, Muslims, Jews and other religions who oppose homosexuality and same sex marriage and see them as an abomination to our Creator. Non-believers might call this bigotry, but it is bigotry for them to want to impose their beliefs on millions of people when there are only a few thousand homosexuals who support same sex marriage.
