Fox: Police are moving reporters back, a neighbor said the man is a paranoid&combative man;it's unknown what the situation is with the boy and the hostage taker/gunman who shot and killed the school bus driver yesterday. They may be moving reporters back in the event somethign happens that they don't want on air.

The AP reports:
The gunman, identified by neighbors as Jimmy Lee Dykes, a 65-year-old retired truck driver, was known as "the crazy man" of the neighborhood, a paranoid and combative man who once beat a dog to death with a lead pipe, threatened to shoot children for setting foot on his property and patrolled his yard at night with a flashlight and a shotgun.
He was supposed to appear in court Wednesday to answer charges he shot at his neighbors in a dispute last month over a speed bump.
The standoff dragged on through the night and into the afternoon Wednesday after the gunman boarded a stopped school bus in the small town of Midland City on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. Sheriff Wally Olsen said the man shot the driver when he refused to hand over a 6-year-old child. The gunman then took the kindergartener away.
"As far as we know there is no relation at all. He just wanted a child for a hostage situation," said Michael Senn, a church pastor who helped comfort the traumatized children after the attack.
Dykes was believed to be holed up in an underground bunker of the sort used to take shelter from a tornado, County Coroner Woodrow Hilboldt said.
The bus driver, Charles Albert Poland Jr., 66, was hailed by locals as a hero who gave his life to protect 21 students.
Mike and Patricia Smith, who live across the street from Dykes and whose two children were on the bus when the shooting happened, said their youngsters had a run-in with him about 10 months ago.
"My bulldogs got loose and went over there," Patricia Smith said. "The children went to get them. He threatened to shoot them if they came back."
"He's very paranoid," her husband said. "He goes around in his yard at night with a flashlight and shotgun."
"Everybody up the hill tried to avoid him," he said.
Patricia Smith said her children told her what happened on the bus: Two other children had just been dropped off and the Smith children were next. Dykes stepped onto the bus and grabbed the door so the driver couldn't close it. Dykes told the driver he wanted two boys, 6 to 8 years old, without saying why.
According to Smith, Dykes started down the aisle of the bus and the driver put his arm out to block him. Dykes fired four shots at Poland with a handgun, Smith said.
"He did give his life, saving children," Mike Smith said.
Patricia Smith said her daughter, a high school senior, began corralling the other children and headed for the back of the bus while Dykes and the driver were arguing. Later, Smith's son ran inside his house, telling his mother: "The crazy man across the street shot the bus driver and Mr. Poland won't wake up."
Patricia Smith ran over to the bus and saw the driver slumped over in his seat. Her daughter used another child's cellphone to call 911.
Another neighbor, Ronda Wilbur, said Dykes beat her 120-pound dog with a lead pipe for coming onto his side of the dirt road. The dog died a week later.
"He said his only regret was he didn't beat him to death all the way," Wilbur said. She called animal control, who came out and talked to Dykes, but nothing else happened. "If a man can kill a dog, and beat it with a lead pipe and brag about it, it's nothing until it's going to be people."
Court records showed Dykes had been scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning to face a charge of menacing some neighbors as they drove by his house weeks ago.
Claudia Davis said he yelled and fired shots at her, her son and her baby grandson over damage Dykes claimed their pickup truck did to a makeshift speed bump in the dirt road. No one was hurt.
"Before this happened, I would see him at several places and he would just stare a hole through me," Davis said. "On Monday I saw him at a laundromat and he seen me when I was getting in my truck, and he just stared and stared and stared at me."

Last week was my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary. Quite an accomplishment in this day and age. It was a beautiful ceremony and fun party afterwards with dancing and mariachi's. In addition to time spent with the in-laws, we had a nice visit and enjoyed a week of family time and activities, including a day trip to see my sister and nieces in Oregon on the way back home. However, now that we are back I feel glad to be home, but at the same time have come to realize how boring my life is once I am back into routine again.

As the House and Senate continue to debate overhauling America's immigration system, new differences are emerging between the two chambers over how to handle criminal illegal immigrants.
The controversy is emerging after two police officers were killed, allegedly by illegal immigrant drunk drivers with prior DUI arrests.
"There are thousands of Americans killed intentionally and accidentally by illegal immigrants who have already been arrested and could have been deported from the U.S.," said Kris Kobach, an attorney representing Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents who claim the Obama administration is preventing them from deporting law-breakers.
In Houston, police say 23-year-old Andres Munos was driving drunk on May 20 when he struck and killed 47-year-old Sgt. Dwayne Polk, a Harris County sheriff's deputy. Munos, who is in this country illegally, was previously arrested in 2010 for drunk driving and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
In Phoenix, Jesus Cabrera-Molina admitted he was drunk and high on cocaine the night his SUV struck and killed Phoenix Police Officer Daryl Raetz -- but he denies he was behind the wheel. Witnesses disagree, and Phoenix police have charged Molina with manslaughter.
Under a House bill now being debated, drivers like Munos and Molina would likely get deported immediately by ICE or local police, who would have the authority to enforce federal immigration statutes.
Under the Senate bill, however, illegal immigrants accused of non-violent crimes are entitled to a hearing and a taxpayer-funded lawyer. Those with three or fewer misdemeanors and some felonies would be allowed to remain if they had children or wives in the U.S.

If they committed a crime by driving while intoxicated they should be treated as any other criminal. Any legal citizen would be jailed and charged with manslaughter and these guys should be too, but they should also be deported because they are here ILLEGALLY, should the courts release them without charges or once their jail term ends.There is no reason criminal illegals should be allowed to remain in the US, especially when they have committed crimes that have taken the life of another person or caused harm to another human being!!

Why he's hiding out in China is a bit odd....but I appreciate his willingness to risk his safety by exposing the invasion on our privacy by this administration. He hasn't revealed any top secret info like Bradley Manning did so I don't see his actions as being that of a traitor, but if he does share any top secret/classified info that could endanger our national security or military then it would make him a traitor. Hopefully he won't sell out to China, who is known to hack into our military and corporate secrets already. However, if the US threatens him with treason and extradition he may sell out his freedom for his life and security in China.

No, I'm not. Wikileaks is a legitimate journalistic outlet and they carefully redacted all of their releases in accordance with a judgment of public interest. The unredacted release of cables was due to the failure of a partner journalist to control a passphrase. However, I understand that many media outlets used the argument that "documents were dumped" to smear Manning, and want to make it clear that it is not a valid assertion here.

US officials say this every time there's a public discussion that could limit their authority. US officials also provide misleading or directly false assertions about the value of these programs, as they did just recently with the Zazi case, which court documents clearly show was not unveiled by PRISM.
Journalists should ask a specific question: since these programs began operation shortly after September 11th, how many terrorist attacks were prevented SOLELY by information derived from this suspicionless surveillance that could not be gained via any other source? Then ask how many individual communications were ingested to acheive that, and ask yourself if it was worth it. Bathtub falls and police officers kill more Americans than terrorism, yet we've been asked to sacrifice our most sacred rights for fear of falling victim to it.
Further, it's important to bear in mind I'm being called a traitor by men like former Vice President Dick Cheney. This is a man who gave us the warrantless wiretapping scheme as a kind of atrocity warm-up on the way to deceitfully engineering a conflict that has killed over 4,400 and maimed nearly 32,000 Americans, as well as leaving over 100,000 Iraqis dead. Being called a traitor by Dick Cheney is the highest honor you can give an American, and the more panicked talk we hear from people like him, Feinstein, and King, the better off we all are. Some of the highlights regarding the NSA whistleblower. Hero or traitor?? I'd say he hasn't crossed the line like Bradley Manning did with Wikileaks, but if I hear otherwise and he did disclose national security/military secrets to the Chinese or a foreign entity then he will be just as guilty as Manning. So far it appears he only revealed what most govts already do which is spy one one another, but he has confirmed that the US is also spying on every citizen and treating everyone as an enemy or terrorist, like China does, rather than targeting their spying on certain obvious suspects, such as Islamic terrorists.

John Brown - History Celebrities
John Brown was born in Torrington, Connecticut on May 9, 1800, the son of a gypsy type family, having moved from place to place throughout New England. However, he spent most of his youth in Ohio, where the schools taught him to take exception to mandatory education. At the same time, his parents taught him to worship the Bible and hate slavery. During the War of 1812, he assisted General William Hull by herding cattle for him. In later years he worked at his family's tannery (tanning is that process of turning animal hide into leather). At the age of twenty, he married Dianthe Lusk, and together they had seven children. Tied of working at his family's business, he and his wife moved to Pennsylvania and operated a tannery of their own. In 1831, Dianthe died, and within a year of her death, Brown married the sixteen-year-old Mary Anne Day. With Mary, they had thirteen children, giving Brown a total of twenty children between his two wives.
Over the next twenty-four years, Brown was not very successful in business, having built and sold several tanneries. Additionally, he was a land speculator, raised sheep, and started a brokerage house for wool growers, all of which did not fair well. Being a bad businessman, he experienced financial difficulties, but rather than improve his situation, his visionary thinking went toward the plight of the weak and persecuted. Always seeking the friendship and company of blacks, he ended up living in a freedman's community in North Elba, New York for two years. Soon he was obsessed in his thinking and became a militant abolitionist, as well as one of the "conductors" on the Underground Railroad. As well, he was the organizer of the Self-protection League for free blacks and fugitive slaves.
At the age of fifty, Brown now envisioned slave uprisings, and regarded himself as a person commissioned by God to make his visions a reality. In 1855, five of his sons went to Kansas to form a haven for anti slavery settlers, and Brown went along. Following the raids on Lawrence, Kansas, whereby the town was burned and pillaged, Brown's hostility toward slave states accelerated. Seeking revenge, Brown, along with the militia he had formed, went on a mission on the evening of May 23, 1856. With six militia members, as well as four of his sons, they went to the homes of pro-slavery men who lived along the Pottawatomie Creek, dragged them from their homes, and cut them to death with swords. As a result, Brown was known as "Old Brown of Osawatomie," and was feared by those men who were pro-slavery.
By the fall of 1856, Brown had been defeated, for the moment, and returned to Ohio, but still held his vision of a slave rebellion. To accomplish this, Brown traveled back and forth to Kansas several times, now processing a grandiose plan to free the slaves throughout the South. With financial help from abolitionists in New England, Brown started his plan by raiding plantations in Missouri, but accomplished very little by it.
Continuing his plan, in the summer of 1859, he decided to concentrate his mission to western Virginia. So, on the evening of October 16, with an army of twenty-one men that included five blacks, they raided the government armory and arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia (now West Virginia). It was Brown's plan to steal the arsenal's weapons, then arm thousands of slaves, who he believed would flock to him upon learning of his raid. However, Brown's plan did not work as he had hoped. Instead, groups of the militia as well as the United States Marines under the command of Colonel Robert E. Lee, converged on Harpers Ferry, trapping Brown and his men in a fire house on October 18. Storming the building, Lee and his men killed ten of Brown's men and captured seven, including Brown.
Later tried and found guilty of treason, John Brown was hanged at Charleston, on December 2, 1859. As a result of Brown's last speech, and his fearless demeanor on the gallows, he became a martyr in sections of the North.

Or was it Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed in 1953 for passing information about nuclear weapons to the USSR. They were not charged with treason but espionage.
However, according to "Straight Dope": Brown was tried in Virginia state court, and executed for treason against the Commonwealth of Virginia, not treason against the United States.
User, "Captain Amazing", did find someone who was convicted of treason and sentenced to death, but he was never executed. Tomoya Kawakita was born in America to Japanese parents. He was in Japan when WWII broke out, and unable to return to the US. During the war, he was ardently pro-Japanese and abused American POWs who were forced to work under him in a factory.
After the war, he came to the US, where he was arrested, convicted of treason, and sentenced to die. The case went up to the Supreme Court (where he had argued that he voluntarily gave up his citizenship when the war broke out, and therefore, was not guilty of treason). The Court upheld his sentence, but Pres. Eisenhower commuted it and ordered him deported to Japan.
User "FreddythePig" says, Since the adoption of the Constitution, no American has been executed for treason against the federal government. John Fries was convicted of treason and sentenced to death for leading a rebellion against a federal property tax in 1798, but he was pardoned by President Adams.
However, there were executions in the pre-Constitutional period. According to Funk & Wagnall's,
I assume these men were convicted in state courts, there being as of yet no federal judiciary. John Brown, as discussed, was also executed by authority of a state court for treason against Virginia, not the United States.

Sadly, it doesn't look like much will happen to Obama for his acts of treason against the US, especially his most recent violation of arming the Syrian opposition/Islamic terrorists against Assad. Due to refinements of the definition for treason, convictions in the First World are rare, but many developing nations use accusations of it to punish dissidents, suggesting a lack of free expression in these nations."

Poor little boy is still being held by this 'crazy man'. I sure pray he is still safe and unharmed. Reports are that he's been crying for his parents since he was abducted for three days by the nutcase who shot and killed the bus driver.
He has a history of violent behavior, paranoia and has threatened to shoot neighbors before just for going near his property or supposedly damaging a speed bump. We don't know why he is doing what he's doing other than him being a paranoid nutcase. He was expected to go to court on Wednesday because he was charged with 'menancing' neighbors when he threatened to shoot them....sadly in AL this was considered a misdemeanor and he was released on bail. Someone like that should have been a red flag and sent for a mental evaluation and kept in jail. Anytime someone threatens others with death or harm they are no longer safe for society and should be taken seriously as a danger to the public!! This is one example of the failure of our legal system and the need to recognize those with mental illness, especially when they show signs of violent behavior, which he has!! He killed another neighbors dog before with a lead pipe! As we know, many serial killers and sociopaths start out killing animals before they move on to killing people.
May God bless and protect little Ethan and comfort him as he longs for his family. My youngest is his age and I can't imagine what he must be going through and how his parents are feeling. It just breaks my heart each day this hostage situation goes on. Why can't these nuts just leave innocent people alone!!?? Why can't they take their own lives or go into a bunker or whatever on their own!!?? I really hope he lets this little boy go before he causes more emotional harm and God forbid physical harm. It is reported that the little boys name is Ethan and has been crying for days for his family, but was given needed medicine and coloring books...I pray the nutcase is giving him the proper dosage of medicine and treating the little boy with kindness rather than anger and violence. How scary....how heart breaking....God please save this little boy!!

MIDLAND CITY, Ala. – More than three days after he allegedly shot dead a school bus driver, grabbed a 5-year-old child and slipped into an underground bunker in the rural U.S., Jimmy Lee Dykes was showing no signs Friday of turning himself over to police.
Hostage negotiators spoke into a narrow ventilation pipe leading into the bunker, trying to talk the 65-year-old, said to hold anti-government views, into freeing the boy. One local official said the child had been crying for his parents.
Dykes, described by neighbors as threatening and violent, is accused of pulling the boy at random from the bus Tuesday and killing the driver who tried to protect the 21 children aboard. The gunman and the boy were holed up in a small underground room on his property that authorities likened to a tornado shelter, not uncommon in the rural South.
A state lawmaker said the shelter has electricity, food and TV, and there were signs that the standoff along a dirt road could continue for some time.
"The three past days have not been easy on anybody," Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson said late Thursday. He said authorities' primary goal was to get the boy home safely.
"There's no reason to believe the child has been harmed," Olson added.
James Arrington, police chief of the neighboring town of Pinckard, said the captor has been sleeping and told negotiators that he has spent long periods in the shelter before.
"He will have to give up sooner or later because (authorities) are not leaving," Arrington said. "It's pretty small, but he's been known to stay in there eight days."
Midland City Mayor Virgil Skipper said he has visited the boy's parents.
"He's crying for his parents," Skipper said. "They are holding up good. They are praying and asking all of us to pray with them."
Lawmaker Steve Clouse said the boy's mother told him her child has Asperger's syndrome, an autism-like disorder, as well as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. Police have been delivering medication to him through the pipe, he said.
Activity around the bunker picked up early Friday when a team in military-style uniforms, many with weapons, got out of a van and moved into a staging area. One appeared to be dog handler.
Dykes was known in the neighborhood as a menacing figure who neighbors said once beat a dog to death with a lead pipe, threatened to shoot children for setting foot on his property and patrolled his yard at night with a flashlight and an assault rifle.
Arrington confirmed that Dykes held anti-government views, as described by multiple neighbors: "He's against the government -- starting with Obama on down."
"He doesn't like law enforcement or the government telling him what to do," the police chief said. "He's just a loner."
No motive has been discussed by investigators, but the police chief said the FBI had evidence suggesting it could be considered a hate crime. Federal authorities have not released any details about the standoff or the investigation.
Dykes had been scheduled to appear in court Wednesday to answer charges he shot at his neighbors in a dispute last month. Neighbor Claudia Davis said he yelled and fired shots at her, her son and her baby grandson over damage Dykes claimed their truck did to a makeshift speed bump in the dirt road. No one was hurt.
The son, James Davis Jr., believes Tuesday's shooting was connected to the court date. "I believe he thought I was going to be in court and he was going to get more charges than the menacing, which he deserved, and he had a bunch of stuff to hide and that's why he did it."
A neighbor directly across the street, Brock Parrish, said Dykes usually wore overalls and glasses, and his posture was hunched-over. He said Dykes lived in a small camping trailer and patrolled his lawn at night, walking from corner to corner with a flashlight and an assault rifle.
Court records showed Dykes was arrested in Florida in 1995 for improper exhibition of a weapon, but the misdemeanor was dismissed. The circumstances of the arrest were not detailed in his criminal record. He was also arrested for marijuana possession in 2000.

The suspect and child, who by all accounts did not know each other, then disappeared into an underground bunker on the man's property in southeastern Alabama that is said to be equipped with electricity and several weeks' worth of supplies.
The shooting and hostage-taking happened as a national debate rages over gun violence, especially in schools, after a gunman shot dead 20 students and six staff members at a Connecticut elementary school in December.
Law enforcement negotiators have continued to communicate with the man identified by neighbors as 65-year-old Jimmy Lee Dykes. Officials said they believed the child was unharmed.
Michael Senn, a pastor who lives near the private dirt road that runs onto Dykes' property, told the Dothan Eagle newspaper that authorities had been able to maintain contact with Dykes through some sort of pipe, possibly made of PVC, leading into the bunker.
"They've been talking to him pretty regularly," Senn said.
Law enforcement officials have offered few details about the standoff and have not officially released the names of the suspect or the child.
But homemade signs seen around the town identify the boy as Ethan. A school official said his sixth birthday is next week.
Messages such as "Please release Ethan" and "Pray 4 Ethan" were tacked up outside the town hall, where a somber candlelight vigil on Thursday night drew about 100 people.
