Common Ground in the Debate of Self v. Traditional Publishing

Common Ground in the Debate of Self v. Traditional Publishing | Litteris | Scoop.it
A storm was created last week in response to Hugh Howey’s Author Earnings post. It was widely criticized by many but also praised. It started a lot of discussion.

Having read most of the back and forth, I did notice a few commonalities.

The Challenges of Self-Publishing - And Why I'd Do It Again - Women Writers, Women Books | Litteris | Scoop.it
With a publisher, fame and fortune would certainly follow.  Right? The idea for Found It: A Field Guide for Mom Entrepreneurs came to me in the night.  Literally.  At 2 AM, I raced to a lined yellow pad and each of the 51 chapters fell out of my head and onto the paper.  Just like …

The Challenges of Self Publishing and why I wouldn't really want to do it again. That would have been my line. Creating the book (Creative Acts of Healing: after a baby dies) was gratifying, marketing in 1999 not that much fun, no Author platform, not Social Media, no nothing. Distribution a bitch. No really.
So perhaps in the future I may look into this again, given the improved situation for self publishers, the good distribution system that's already established. Perhaps. But not yet.

Brian S's curator insight, April 5, 2014 1:19 PM

Women seem to be really good at self-publishing.
